Not sure how this happened...My 84 Eagle...I went to turn the key to open the hatch and the key turns, but the hatch won't open. I think the mechanism disconnected. How the heck do I open this hatch up without destroying anything?
I think you'll have to get into the cargo area with your trusty Phillips screwdriver and remove the interior plastic to gain access to the latch mechanism. I can't remember offhand, but hopefully all of the screws are accessible with the hatch closed.
I had to do this. And yes its a :censored: (i knew it would be censored) but it is. Its possible however.

eeeeeeeeewwww!!! Well, I hope to have a COOOOOL night to do so! It's been too :censored: hot!
Right before I stored it for the summer in the quonset on the farm, I had the plastic trim off and was cleaning out the inside, lubed the wiper motor with dielectric grease and white lithium grease on the wiper arm mechanism. I also painted and used POR-15 on the metal inside to prevent rust. I think the mechanism for the lock is disconnected. Either way...I have a little project ahead of me. I'll have to hit up a junk yard for lock mechanism. One yard I know has the keys inside the Eagles to open the hatches.
