I can't seem to find the post where someone's done that. Does anyone remember?
I think you need different bushings and maybe drill the hole out or some such.
Sorry, I know I'm not much help but it might jog someone's memory.

I think it's gone. We seem to be losing posts lately. The admins are looking into it but I'm not sure they're having any luck.
I thought maybe jim or tougeagle but searches reveal nothing. Sorry.
There's nothing in the Eaglepedia that I can find either.

Could it be the 'cleaning of the site' that's doing it?

This is why I've started to save anything and everything I can.  It either gets buried, or lost forever.

Once someone posts a really good write-up or posts info, we should be saving it asap.  We really need to preserve this info.

Well Things like that that are written by members (who may not be around anymore) should be put into the eaglepedia immediately. Now I'm going to have to order the springs new online instead of choosing from the abundance Cherokee's in my local yard. Something that would have cost me 50 bucks in a bone yard is now going to cost me $300.00 Well no sense crying over spilled milk........Just gonna have to suck it up and pay the piper LOL thanks everyone for getting on the case I really appreciate the help and if we do find it somewhere PLEASE SEND ME THE LINK just in case for future reference

i'm going to be putting some 88 cherokee springs on eagle eyes and if i remember right you use the stock jeep bolts and bushings and drill out the holes in the eagle shackles to fit the bigger bolts thru.

well when ya do that can ya take a few pics and maybe do a small write up in the eaglepedia so it won't get "Lost"? I am S.O.L. on the 85 considering I ordered mine already but down the road it might be useful.

You could always get the Jeep springs, compare them to the Eagle springs and do what modifications are needed.

LOL yes this is true I could take the good spring on the other side out hit the junkyard up, then mod the springs to fit the eagle.

one thing you could do is take the top leaf off the eagle leaf pack and put it on the jeep leaf pack and then you would have a set of leaf springs that will fit your eagle and give it a bit of a lift with out moddifing your car to make them fit.

unfortunately the top leaf (the main leaf) is the one that broke so thats really not an option but would have been a good idea

Thats great to hear.  What else did you get with the springs (Ubolts, etc),  They seem like they are very reasonable on shipping - only $35 to Colorado!  Thanks

Just the bushing kit, in high sight I should have gotten new shackles and u bolts but I didn't think ahead. But I am extremely satisfied with the order everything fit right in the way it should 4 stars for general springs.

Jim the springs were made to the original specs they had enough to bring the car back up to normal ride height. Why do you ask??

I bought leaf springs from ESPO and from General Springs and both sets were flat - no arch at all - when I installed them.

I installed coil over shocks, and they lifted the rear back up, but made the ride very stiff.
I have considered combining the 2 sets of springs.  The ESPO springs I took off when I installed the KC springs had very few miles on them.

Have you look in to to a solid axle leaf spring conversion from parts from a FSJ Grand Wagoneer. You could provably get a complet one out of a junkyard for about 500.00 to 800 bucks, meaning all the parts would be on there, including the parts to convert your AMC Eagle from a 258 to a 360.

how long does it take to swap out leaf springs on a wagon including drilling out holes?

If you have all the parts, the right tools for the job do a good job as should be done an set your mind, time and money in to it it should take 2 to 3 days, if you decide to go the slow and steady route 7 to 14 days.
Allmost forgot the knowhow.

I saw a write-up yesterday in the project threads where someone used a leaf spring pack from a 1991 Dodge Ram. I'm recalling that from memory and will have to edit this post once I find it again.

My favorite solution is the Load Leveller shocks. They have a coil spring around the shock. I buy mine at "shockwarehousedotcom." I've never replaced any of my station wagon leafs because those compensate very well. You will feel an immediate difference, but I happen to think its not too stiff and not too soft.

The leaf springs in SX4's are very prone to breaking and sagging because the second leaf doesn't support a large area of the first leaf. I've broken them many times. If you take the springs from a junkyard Jeep Cherokee and swap everything but the top leaf, you'll end up with a second leaf that is longer and supports the weak area of your top leaf spring.

If you buy new shackles, you can get very heavy duty greaseable shackles for Jeep CJs. They are the same width and pin diameter. The stock Eagle Shackle is about an inch longer than the stock CJ shackle tho, so you need to order a CJ shackle designed to lift the CJ an inch or so.

that is intersting. ive never heard of the cj shackle swap. any particular years? cj5 or 7?

I don't own any CJ5s, but the later body style CJ5 probably shares the same shackles as a CJ7. They were both made together for a few years. I have several CJ7s. I measured the shackles and found them to be about 4.5 inches long. Our Eagle shackles are about 5.5 inches long. Those numbers are strictly off the top of my head from several years ago. I ordered "Jeep CJ7 Daystar 1/2 lift super shackle kit 76-86." The greaseable shackle I recieved worked perfectly in our Eagles. I also bought a bombproof shackle eye for a CJ7. Its got a rib welded on for strength and makes the original eye look like a toy.

In hindsight I would have ordered ones for a one inch lift because the eye that bolts to the body sits on a little pedestal made from very thin gauge steel. I drove my shackle through the floor of my SX4 after landing from a ridiculous jump. I put a very thick plate across that whole area of the floor and bolted it through the frame to my 2" reciever. I had to cut out the depressed area the old eye sat on, so my shackle ended up being about a half inch too short. It worked out that my "Load Leveller" shocks and brand new leaf springs made up the difference and it sits where it belongs now.
