Post by: shanebo on June 22, 2011, 02:07:50 AM
Heres what our boys in mexico were up to. Kind of reminds me of a Chevy Citation, especially the first picture.  But because its an AMC its still way cooler!

VAM called it the Lerma.

I spotted one of the four door versions when I was in Mazatlan back in 1997.  Unfortunately I was on a bus at the time and couldn't get up close and personal with it or snap any pictures.  It definitely made me do a double take though... I thought it was the result of a Concord and Spirit gettin' busy.  8)

Actually, I thought it was someone's one-off custom job.  It wasn't until many years later that I learned it was an actual production car in Mexico.  During that trip I saw a few other VAMs, all just slightly different from their AMC counterparts elsewhere in North America.

For decades, the Mexican market has had some interesting variations on vehicles we commonly know.  I'm not just talking about VAM, I mean other manufacturers too.  With some new rules coming into effect under NAFTA, it should become easier to bring some of them north.

I thought the exact same thing about the first one....the 2 door one looks alot like one of those early 80's corolla 2 door hatchbacks. Or maybe a B-210 datsun...either way ya slice it If I could get my mitts on one of those prototypes I would be one happy camper!!

Ive googled VAM cars for sale and all I get is the wiki pedia for VAM cars and the rest of the search results are all for vans for sale....I might just have to search cars for sale in Mexico.
