I was helping a guy move today up the road from me...Something caught my eye in a field right across form his hous...My heart skipped a beat!!...a rust free good running 360cid (according to window sticker) , newly reupholstered 79' Cherokee Chief...Ive been trying to get a hold of the owner all day but his wife said he was out...Im really considering buying this if the price is fair. Its got no rust anywhere and aside from faded paint everything looks great....It woldd make a great play mate for ginger.

My first real 4X4 was a '77 Cherokee with the 360. I only paid $400 for it and drove it home. It was fun to fix it and make it a rough trail worthy vehicle. This one that you are looking at buying looks too good to thrash on rough trails. It's last flight was in a "Tough Truck" challenge:

I love the old cherokee chief's!!!! There is an old on rotting out about 2 and a half hours from my house that I've been eyeing for a while.
Cool! Hope you get it

The photographer at the TTC came up to me afterward and said he had never seen a truck jump that high, and told me he had several photos.
Note to shanebo: Please do not enter your Cherokee (if you get it) in a TTC. When mine landed, practically EVERYTHING was broken. Three bent rims, trans broke in half, V'd the front axle housing, busted shocks, windshield, and the fan in the radiator. There were may other things that broke as well.
a geo tracker will do that and still keep driving, the only thing that will happen is the steering shaft will bend. ;D

Like your neck? ;D
I did that in an old Chevy 2500 4x4 once and I couldn't walk properly for a week.
Still no answer but its still in the field....along with a pretty cherry corvair for sale next to it. Its sitting near the entrance to a some what affluent housing development....Those folks are more in the range rover price bracket so I doubt its getting a whole lot of attention from them. A paint job and lift it would be an eye catcher.
Check for a rusted/cracked frame by the fuel tank. This is very common but simple to fix if you can stick weld. The Chief's are awesome. Love'em more than the G-Wags looks wise. The AMC 360 was a good engine too. The trannies are simple to rebuild yourself and it should have Dana44's under it.

Should be a GM Turbo 400 (Qudratrack TC)
If you decide against it, let me know! I love those things!
In addition to the frame, be sure and look inside the rear wheelwells and towards the front of the vehicle. That front area tends to rot and allows ex fumes in right at the rear seat.
Have a great week and good luck!
