Title: How hot?
Post by: hanajack on June 15, 2011, 06:12:18 PM
Since my alternator ['84 258] is no longer buried under the A/C comp, I'm more aware of it and how hot it gets.  The question is:  How hot should it get?

Too hot to touch?

Too hot to hold onto?

Hot, but not too hot to hold on to?

More than warm?

Mudkicker,  OK the alternator gets hot.  Not sure what the "Definition Fidelty curious" means.

Alright, it is the alternator.

I've personally never had an alternator get to hot to touch before, but if it's working hard all the time it should be quite warm, maybe just at the point were you wouldn't want to keep your hand on it??

How hot?

Sorry was in the shop drinking and listening to people at the same time I was typing. No idea my self what I was saying. Anyway they get hot. Seriously, try using one to weld with. Haha gets hotter than stock. If worried about heat have your friendly local parts strore check it.

Its going to hot just being so close to the motor...if its on its last legs you can usually hear in whining.

That's what I was going to say.

I know mine gets really hot, but it's from being so close to all the heat my motor pumps out.
