Title: Critical vaccum lines?
Post by: shanebo on June 07, 2011, 12:36:45 AM
 :help:
I finally just got my 86 wagon to start after a spark issue. It fires up now but will only stay running if its reved. If I let my foot off the gas it dies immediatly. The guy I got it from mentioned there is a vaccum line that pops off occationally that causes the car to run very poorly and kill. I just dont know which one it is....There is a bunch of free hanging vaccum hoses I need to track down the critical ones!....I am so lost when it comes to vaccum systems.

Thanks
shane

I have had a problem with the hose coming off the tee on the manifold behind the carb.  It caused the same symptoms.

Yup, the rear vacuum fitting right by cylinder #6. It provides vacuum to the heating unit to close the heater valve and to the 4wd canister. The check valve should go to the heater, and the other side to the canister, which should have a functional built-in check valve.

I have one canister?
It sits right above the blower fan on the firewall passenger side.
What goes to that?  Looks lik a line from the cruise comand goes to the bottom port?

I have looked all over for a 4wd canister (fender wells included) and see nothing.
The 4wd worked before it was put out to pasture....now the car is fixed up again and I don't remember unhooking any of this system,  should work.  But, don't see a canister for it.

It sure was the 4wd. Tougeagle came up and we hung out for the day and got it running pretty good. I think we found a total of 4 or 5 bad vacum lines
