Title: Improving performance on power door locks
Post by: Zoro on May 31, 2011, 02:05:05 PM
SInce I got my '84 wagon I've been having an issue with the door lock studs. One is very picky and will only lock with just the right touch, one functions properly and one is very sluggish when you hit the unlock button, usually takes 5 or 6 tries to get it to unlock. The other does not appear to be working.

Any good way to improve the performance on the power door locks or is my best bet to replace all of the actuators? My goal is just to have all four doors lock and unlock with only one click of the button.

That should be helpful, but I also found that all the lube for the arms going to the door locks (and all the other mechanisms attached) gets stiff, and if you also clean and lube them up good, that helps allot.

I did that with my eagle, and it worked great.  Also, consider checking the wires.  On my eagle, the wires going from the 'B' pillar (down at the bottom for the door locks) into the door were brittle and cracked, and they were shorting/grounding out.
