Looks like a '68 Rebel although the plates suggest its a '69. 1968 was the last year that AMC used the number designations on the Rebels (Ambassadors changed the year before). Also in '69 the inner headlamps were placed in the center grille section. I wonder if the owner attempted to make it look like a later day Rebel Mariner -- which was a factory regional special for certain parts of the country.
i did find out today <from a co-worker> this one must be his daily driver it has been seen multiple times i guess,,also some around here has a concord,,i have seen it,,kinda rough lookin but must be roadworthy,, let me tell you its a good feeling to be setting in my eagle and see one roll by!
I have one of these... a 232- I6 with 3 spd w/OD trans.
Have a great week,
Jesse
I would love to have that in my garage.
Yup 68...not 69. I have a 67 and I know my Rebels...not so much the Machines
Didn't they call that particular package the Mariner? I know they had several "special packages" for the Wagons.
Here's my Golden Retriever!

The Mariner was only available mid-year of 67 and on the west coast in 1967.
I always loved the Rebel station wagons
This is a Mariner. Only 600 made and only sold in coastal areas. The two other regional wagons were the Briarcliff (400 made) for the Eastern US and the Westerner (500 made) for the Western States. Here is a picture of Terry Gale's Mariner:
