Has anyone seen an 82 SX4 with a 258 I6 that has a 1 (ONE) BBL Carb? I always thought they came with 2 bbls. Just a Newb Question. :newbie: :eaglebig:
nope they all have the carter 2bbl as far as i know
This is just an idea but if you are looking at the top of the carb it may appear to be a 1 barrel. The choke is one large butterfly but if you open that and look down in you will see the two barrels and their butterflies.
Is this the case?
Yup, from the factory they were 2 bbl.

Well it was the case when I went to get a rebuild kit last week for the MoneyPit II , and asked for a one barrel.I had looked at the top and assumed one barrel, it is as said, 2 barrels down inside. The opening on top is refered to as the air horn I guess.
Could have had an engine or intake swapped in from an older CJ or something. Not uncommon. The sure fire way to check is to count the mounting studs. If there are 2, it's a 1bbl, if there are 4 it's a 2bbl. I have customers all the time order a Motorcraft conversion kit for a 1bbl intake to find later they actually had a 2bbl intake. That's why I went w/ a 2 piece 1bbl adapter that can also be a 2-2 adapter.
Here is a picture of a one barrel carter yf and manifolds off a 232.

Factory 258 one barrels were available from 71-79 - engine code 'A'.
