Title: U-Joints front vs rear
Post by: Obscurity on April 28, 2011, 03:47:27 PM
Well, I ordered new u-joints for the Eagle from Rockauto. They indicated that the front and rear u-joints are different.....ok, fine, I trusted in their parts catalog. My tranny mechanic/landlord looked at them when I got them and said no....these are wrong. He showed me and indeed the ones on the rear are different from the ones that were sent to me (they are actually the same as the front ones it seems).
So has there been changes made to my driveline previously, making all of the u-joints the same size? Is my landlord wrong? is the Rockauto catalog wrong? Was it me that messed up the order?  Actually, the one answer I could use the most is: Are they normally different sizes?
Thanks all :)

They're all the same size, but some years used internal c-clips on the back axle, and some years had ears on the yoke and just used straps to hold the u-joint in.

When I swapped axles, I hadn't seen an internal c-clip in so long it had me confused for several days.

Depends on the car, I have an example at home (the sx/4) that has a different u-joint at the rear axle, than at the t case, lol. So best to look at what the car has to be certain.

Apparently mine is like Shaggimo.....the one at the rear axle is different. This is resulting in the THIRD time buying U-joints for the car :P uuughhh.
Thanks for the responses though, at least I know that it is more of a RockAuto catalog error (somewhat understandable I guess), and not my landlord being an absolute idiot about it!
