A couple of months back the transmission in my 83 SX/4 started slipping. I have had my hands on an 86 Concord for some time now. The 86 engine and 3 spd auto are in great running condition with fewer miles then the 83. I was planning on just swapping both the engine and the tranny out. Both eagles have a three speed automatic and a 4.2 L. The question is this - What will swapping the 86 2WD engine and tranny into the 83 4WD require?

You'll either have to give up 4wd or have a transmission shop put a different output shaft in the transmission.
A 1986 engine, however, ought to swap directly. Are you sure on the Concord year, I'm pretty sure they were 78-83?
They should be to take ouput shafts and nosecones and swap them. I would tell you how, but since your asking I will assume limited experience.
Concords only ran 78-83, and spirits only ran 79-83. So if you are sure it's and 86, its from a 4x4
Sorry guys. Total brain :censored:. The replacement engine and tranny is coming form an 82 2WD. So all I should have to do is swap the output shaft?

You will need the transfer case adapter too. They are different between the auto and manual versions.
Iwas assuming he had that
