drive it home .this eagle the most rust free eagle I have seen in years ..the paint is thin in places
but I am going to see If I can buff it out a little ... the interior is in very good condition ...

it is a good looking eagle but the master plain in my mind is to have 1 of every body style.  Sadly my 83 wagon started the whole eagle craze and there is no way i can find another to replace it.  As it nominally goes everytime i look or even think about looking at another AMC the wagon throws a fit and i have replace more parts.  i think i am like 4 parts short of having a lifetime guaranteed eagle :P

Also if your thinking about paint i am only a short 11-12 hour drive from illinois ;D

Its the closest thing to a full factory warranty were ever going to get in an Eagle!! Thats a good way of looking at it Bill!

Sounds like you got a pretty darn good deal there Don!! Its always nice to see good things happen to good people ;D!Ill bet rust freee Eagles are pretty hard to come by up there.

Do you have any plans on rust proofing the underside...Im kinda looking for ideas myself on rust proofing..mine too is fairly rst free and Id love to keep it that way.

Take care
shane

HI    T.R Bill sounds like you have a good thing going there . unless the wagon gets in a fit and wont
run then you will have to drive one of the outhers ..I to want one of each still and I am on my way with
silver. silver is very nice just turned 1,00,000.00 so she has allot of miles left...later...BILL................Don

HI  Shane thank you for the kind words ...Yes rust free up here is like hens teeth..as for the under coating

her they would take her home ...I looked under the seat covers and found clean no tires cloth seats....

ALL I have to do is replace some wires , v hose and carb and drive for now   AND....

A bit off-topic, maybe, but I was just wondering...

Is there any other car or vehicle spelling out loud "America" like an Eagle ?

I mean, the brand is "AMERICAN Motors Corporation" and the model is named after one of the best known American emblems, the Eagle... also in commercials it was named "American Eagle".

I keep thinking about it but I can't recall a car more "American" than that...
Title: Re: The SILVER BULET

I dont think there was a more all American car than the Eagle....Everything about it says America.

HI      Good to hear from you LaGuardia .your both right  but A.M.C. AMERICAN IS the only outher one
              and there both A.M.C.

Hey Don!! Just confirming what we were talking about...Eagle owners being the nicest people....I was parctically given a  1986 wagon today by that guy that comes into the store all the time!! It runs, has new tires, rust free, and has a strait body!! He told me hes getting up there in years and really has no need for two of these cars (he has an 80 sedan too) and told me he knows how much I love these cars and let me have it for 100.00...he just wants to keep the tail lights!!..The crusher offered him 350.00!! what an amazing guy!!

HI      Shane did you park it at your house .If some one offers me one for 100.00 I would have it at
at home working on it .You need one to drive while your working on Ginger....when you get finshed with ginger you can drive ginger and work on that one tell me your getting that car ...Don

Oh yeah!!!!...I got it..for 97.00 to be exact!! I was a few bucks shy but he said dont sweat it!...What an amazing fellow!!  ;D...I do plan on using it as a daily driver....plus its a great reference for me when I start putting ginger back together.....Plus i got alot of parts left over from ginger ...heads, carb, intake and exhaust manifolds, as well as a few other odds and ends I can use on this one if needed...once Gingers done Im going to restore this one...I could not be happier right now!!

Shanebo you said  "Do you have any plans on rust proofing the underside...I'm kinda looking for ideas myself on rust proofing..mine too is fairly rust free and Id love to keep it that way."

If you could get your car to Rhode Island you can get a great undercoating job done at Rust Tech. The company that has made AMC Rocker Panel Replacement kits. I've heard POR 15 is good and so is a product called Rust Bullet. Has anyone ever used any of those products?

I gotta do somthing or Ill live in constant paranoia of rust...Im already catching myself crawling around on all fours looking for the tinyest spot of rust....I had several eagles in the past that rusted out kinda bad...Its so hard to fix it once it starts!! I noticed the zbart stuff is drying up and cracking in spots...a perfect little home for moisture to fester.

Ill have to do some research too Don....I hate to be one of those guys that only drive their Eagle on dry sunny days...But I am so worried about rust on this one...Its the cleanest Eagle I ve ever owned and would love to keep it that way :)

There are so many little nooks and cranny's rust can call home on these cars. Im gonna have to go over the 86 good to when I get it. After I clean off the 3 inches of dried mud on the undercarriage that is ;D

I hope Silver gets a clean bill of heath when you get it home ;D

HI    no you cant beat that .....That was nice for some one to tell me you can have my Eagle for $100.00
That would make my day ..later .......Don

Hows the Silver bullet coming Don? Im having some issues with my most rescent addition.
Im still trying to figure out why I have no spark on Bluebird. Do you know how to test the coil Don?
Title: Re: The SILVER BULET
Post by: doneagle on June 03, 2011, 12:57:20 AM

Hi    I am having trouble with the carb .I need a 83 carb .the one on the car got to hot and warped the base
if i cuild get a good carb I have a rebuild kit for a 1983 carb. then replace wires and vacuum lines and she
will be running ...for the coil first take a multimeter and check the + side of the coil for battery voltage
there should be batt vol at the + post..If not check back to fuse box .If you have batt vol at the post .

That test is with the key on. pull the coil wire out of the distrib cap and  turn motor over and you hold   wire close to block if on spark check under distrb cap and rotor.and did you try an-outher coil wire .

most of the time it is a ground wire  and it could be the spark comand box ..unplug that box and check the plugs clean if needed plug in and check for spark be sure to check all the grounds.there is a ground wire in back of head some times it comes lose .....look it over good ..I hope this helped some .let me know what
you find ..............Don

I didn't find it hard to rebuild one, and it was my first.  it even ran, but to get it properly set, that's a bit of a different story.  You'll need to read and understand the measurements and get everything right, and you'll need a timing light (?), a vacuum gauge, and a tach - Oh yeah!  and patience.

Nice going both of you!  Have an egg there Shane.

HI Shane rebuilding a cater carb to me its not hard to do ...First you need a good book I always had
Motors manuel they always had the best break down on the carter carb it was complete
               2. you need a good rebuild kit with all the O rings plugs gasgets they also have a instruction sheet
3.I clean off work bench or table lay down paper to keep it clean and start taking the carb apart
4.I start at my left all the external things and base plate and the top plate  etc.etc.
5 I have 2 cleaning pales to clean parts in and I clean parts by gropes .after clean let dry and clean
out all holes with air remove all plugs if your kit comes with them if not don't ...clean.clean.I try to keep
clean paper down all the time .
                6. when you start to put it back together get a new set of main jets ...if you want to have better gas
mileage put in new jets ..I always do ...they are marked on top of jet .....
                7. Start rebuild .if you forgot how to  you have book and instruction sheet....and you run into trouble
there is the nest we wont let you down.....
after its all back together make your adjustments ...idle is 1 1/2 turns out to start with so no and so on

put it on the car and it works   then you say how did that happen it works

I like to do this ..every time I do this i learn more all the time .....Don

A book really? Haha

Most carbs just need a good cleaning by taking them apart. While your in there just replace gaskets. Technically I don't consider it rebuilding

Im am so ready to dive into this project!...But it seems everytime I get a few extra dollars together some unexpected bill pops up. Me and the wife are going for a motorcycle trip up to Wisconsin to see some family soon...Most my extra cash has been set aside for that. Once we get back from that I should be able to start stashing some cash aside and getting some parts together....Im really on the fence about wether to get my engine parts I need or get the transmission rebuilt first.....Either way ya slice the car wont move without either one so I guess its one of those "6 one half dozen the other" kinda things.

It took 10 gallons of gas .....and at 75 she was so smooth ...I still have a little trouble at idle in gear
she will die but in neutral she runs good ..I am going to rebuild the crab and go from there ......

Its good to be back...I had a blast up there in Wisconsin...but I was having some pretty serious nest withdrawls! The trip was cool cuz I gotta see Kenosha for a day...I met a few former amc employees too at some of the places we went. We rode through alot of farm land...lots of old cars in fields....saw some neat ones but in the almost 3000 mile trip I didnt see one AMC....not even in Kenosha!! So much rust up there! There were cars only a few years old that were all rusted out!

Hi Don,

Bluebird is up and running now,she runs suprisingly well for needing a head gasket and oil rings. Ginger is still in pieces, I have started acquiring 4.0l parts for the up grade. I got the cam and the the crankshaft bearings are in, now i need piston rings, push rods, lifters, and of course the cylinder head...I have decided to keep the original pistons as they cleaned up very nice and I cant justify buying new ones they are in near perfect condition. Tougeagle is going to come over to my place and wire up the new computer, fuel injection, and hi flow fuel pump....Its getting there slowly but its coming.
