Hi Eaglets! :amc:
Here are a few photo's of my newly restored center horn cap from El Matador (thanks!). It came in Nutmeg and I found 'FUSION Krylon spray paint' formulated for plastics/vinyl. It is real close to garnet red.
I restored/touched up painted the wood grain, and sprayed it with Acrylic clear coat! The center cap was sprayed with PREP, a pre-paint which is tacky and makes paint stick better!
Then, I contacted three leather specialty restorer shops. They all told me the same thing. I could, do the following:
1. Strip the color and have it re-dyed for around $150-$200.
2. Clean it up and just use any acrylic paint on leather.
Guess what I opted to do? #2! I cannot believe how great it turned out. It isn't tacky to the touch. It feels like leather and grips like leather. No paint left on my hands.
Total cost to touch up. $7.50
The Garnet Red steering wheel was $50 w/shipping.
I cannot believe how great it turned out.
