Title: '79 Exhaust Manifold on a '80 258
Post by: Tony and Nicki on March 22, 2011, 03:34:46 AM
Hi guy's

This is just a heads up about 1980 258 Exhaust Manifolds.

I just discovered that my 1980 Concord with 258 actually has a 1965 to 1979 Exhaust Manifold.
The funny thing is if you go to Rock Auto or Autozone etc. they'll sell you the '81 to '90 which has a casting number of 3237096. Mine however is a 3236505 which, as it turns out, is the same as the donor engine has that I'm installing from a '77 'jeep.

The other funny thing is, I checked a couple of manifold specialists sites and they list the
3236505 as being '65 to '79 and 3237096 as being '81 to '90 but nothing is listed for '80.
What I guess is that if you have a 1980 it could be either which doesn't help me much 'cos I ordered a 1980 Exhaust Manifold when I could have just as easily used the one from the Jeep engine which looks to be in great shape.
Oh well. It's my own fault for not checking it out completely but at the same time an easy mistake to make. It's not as if I won't be able to use a 1980 manifold but I just don't need it.

Cheers!

Did you mail order the manifold?  If not as the store if you can return it.  I suppose that you could mail it back too but that might not be cost effective.  Thanks for the heads up too.

Thanks wagoneerhauler,

Yes I mail ordered it from am autoparts. But it's only coming from a wharehouse in Phoenix up the road so I think I'll mail it back and get an oil pan from them in exchange. The manifold was only $61 inc shipping and they mailed super fast before I could stop 'em.

BTW if anyone is wondering how to see which manifold they have. Part of the casting number is visible through the hole that the heat tube attaches. Easier still is that the later type is rounded but the earlier is squared off

Hi guys,

UPDATE: FYI I just looked on the Dorman site and it has 3237426 as OE casting number for 1980 to 1990 258 Exhaust Manifold so I'm not sure what the 3237096 # is I saw on 'Exhaust Manifold Warehouse' site.

Cheers!
