Title: Speedo Conversion????
Post by: Boonsie on March 14, 2011, 07:00:55 PM
I've tried searching and I can't find a good enough answer. A 4.0 out of a 94 Cherokee is going in my Eagle c/w 5 speed manual and NP242 T-case. We have no idea what to do about the speedometer.

What do I do, or what are my options. I want the cluster to look stock, unless there's something cool I can do.

Please help, this little :censored: is really starting to annoy me and slow progress.

I've been told quite simply there are speedo cable adaptors.  They are on the t-case/tranny end.

That's what I've been told, but I've never seen one.

I discuss the options in detail in my second to last post on my project thread (page 3). I also include a picture of a 242 and a picture of the adaptors.

Your AMC Eagle original mechanical speedometer cable and its built in transfer case adaptor will fit into any New Process transfer case, including the 242. The options I list are really for people who want to install an electric speed sensor to power Throttle Body Fuel Injection (TBI) or Multi Port Fuel Injection (MPI).

I also posted immediately before that my driveshaft solution when I installed a slip yoke 242 into my Eagle. The XJ slip yoke is directly compatible with original AMC Eagle Ujoints, you simply need to disable the slip yoke to keep the driveshaft from falling off.
