Title: Manual transfer case conversion?
Post by: shanebo on February 27, 2011, 12:32:39 AM
I am in the middle of a restoration of a sweet 83 Wagon. Id love to ditch the vaccum controlled diaphragm and replace it with a good ol' manual type lever..has anyone here done it...and if so Id love to see just how it was accomplished...As it sits the diaphragm is shot...and all the vacuum hoses up to it are toast...Ill replace em if I gotta but I would really like a manual...if its not a huge undertaking that is ;D

Its been done but, typically using a cable of some type but not everyone was happy with the longevity of their conversions as time went by.  I would think the best way to go would be with a rod linkage of some type.

The size of the undertaking would depend on your perception.  I would like to do that to my 83 but it would be pretty big for me.  With the proper tools, material, and a lift and some pretty good mechanical skills it may not be that big a project.
It seems to me that someone on the Forum has done it - or maybe just talked about it.
