Hi all.
Does anyone have a good picture of a TF998 automatic transmission, left side (drivers side).
Have you checked in our AMC Eaglepedia?
I tryed to find it there, but didn´t find.
I downloaded the auto trans nanual but nothing there.
I found out here that it should be TF998 and tryed to google it and tryed to find it in
auto trans shops but no luck yet.
Before I dig it out what are you looking to see.
I tried to snap some pictures a minute ago but it is just too dark out. I will be getting another 998 tomarrow that should be ALOT cleaner than the 998 that came out of my wagon so i should have some pictures posted tomarrow (unless someone beats me to it)

Trying to see all connections there (like for the shifter and everything else) before taking the transmission out.
I have a leak somewhere there and the leak is not from the speedometer cable and not from the
pipes that go to radiator.
Its the shifter if what you say is correct. It has an oring gasket serviced from bottom. Meaning pan gets popped off than you. Can look to get theshifter post off.
Yes, probably the shifter shaft o-ring. Can be serviced with the transmission in the car.
Hi there.
If it´s the o-ring does the o-ring go on from the inside or topside (outside).
Today i talked to a man that is working in a garage that specialises in automatic transmissions and he said
that if the oil is leaking from this side while the engine is running then it could not be this o-ring.
He said when the engine is running the oil isn´t high enough to leak out there, is that true.
It allways starts leaking few seconds after i fire up the engine.
Best regards, Oliver.

Than its your cooler lines
It´s not the cooler lines.
But i was wondering if the oil could go out at tha o-ring if the air vent on the tranny is closed.
Thats why it would be good to fin a picture of the transmission to see where everything should be.
Because it´s a werry tight space everywhere to see anything.
I am willing to bet it's your lines as well, probably a pinhole in the top side of the line
Never saw a vent. It once was mentioned on the pump next to the tq. Never looked hard enough to verify.
Bill I really don't waant to dig out my parts trans. If needed ican dig through my pics at work tomorrow night not taking time for thattimefull thing now however. Pic it for him your the man
AFAIK the vent is through/around the dipstick.
Makes perfect sense to me as what I know of the pump is it is not vented.

hope that helps ..... can't find the digital cam so my phone had to do the job
Thx for the pictures, they are not werry clear but ok.
I have checked it better and it seams to leak from the arm, the pipes to the radiator are clean and dry and the nossles on the pipes are dry too, so theres nothing left axcept the o-ring.
Thx for info.
Well in the service manual wich i downloaded here they call it a seal not a o-ring and on the picture there it
doesn´t look like a o-ring on page 16.
Yes, I think it is a seal. Just not for sure.
better pictures

it's amazing what a real camera can do ;D
Thx, much better.
I see there it can´t be anything else but the seal :occasion14:
are you sure that it is comming from that location or is it the speedo cable on the transfer case (the transfer case calls for ATF as well)
