Just got this one (1982 SX/4 4 cyl 5 spd) and I hope to keep it:

What I know so far:
129k miles
Iron Duke
5 Speed Manual
What I want to know:
Why does it seem to flood after 30 miles of highway driving?
Why does the radiator leak everything out and then give me white exhaust when I refill it?
This is my daily driver and new weekend project. Woohoo!
White exhaust is telling me a bad head gasket. Your sucking coolant into the combustion chambers and making steam in the process.
I did have super swampers on my first one (29x8.50's I think) and those rims are 17" ones from a Mercedes SUV. The shiny rims are for sale, but I still have to find out how much they're worth.
Now to find out how to replace a head gasket. I'll search around the forum after work today. Thanks! I noticed there's nothing in the eaglepedia about it for a howto, so I'll try to take some pics and keep track of it as well.
If it is the head gasket the head is likely warped as well and is what caused the leaking head gasket. Get the head checked for straightness and planed if necessary before you put it back on or you'll be pulling it apart again shortly after.
Yeah, if we put every repair in the Eaglepedia then we wouldn't sell any TSM's. ;D But a How To from a member with some real world hints would be valuable.
Before I buy it, is this the one I want, "1982/83 AMC Technical Service Manual"? Also, what comes in a TSM? Does it have step by step instructions to fix everything? $37.50 seems like a good deal if that's what it is...
Pretty much covers everything. Some sections are better than others. But, that was how AMC did it. I see that you ordered one. It will go out to you on Monday.
Yeah, I couldn't wait. Thanks for the heads up.
HI they are both good looking cars it mite Neda a little work .....Don
Hey!! I love those rims!! That is exactly the kind I want to eventually get on Ginger...Now I know they look good!
