Took a trip to visit some friends this weekend and decided to stop and take a look at 2 sx/4s that have been for sale for a few months. Still there, havent moved in 10 yrs, down in the field. Looking at them from 10 feet you probobly would guess they ran, even driveable to some extent.
They are best looking piles of rust Ive ever paid money for, although I have never seen subframe damage this severe!
One of them had literally had its transmount and engine mounts rust thru... and its belly was touching the ground.
My son & I are leaving at 6 am to retrieve them.
they were purchased frm the original owners, both are 1981 sx.4 4.2Ls, neither are sport models
one 4 spd one 5 spd both selectrac stop n shift
We cant wait to get em home and open em up, if nothing else there are enough parts worth saving to make the 400 mile trip for em. to be continued...
Thanks for saving them. Have an omelet on me. Even piles of rust have some value.
Awesome save!!! and i must ask, is there 1 for sale ;D
i assume these sat for sale because they were deemed too far gone and they were in the far corner of the state.
530 miles round trip for us. I cant wait to see my fuel bill tomorow. over the shenendoahs and thru Jefferson Nat'l Forest.
Any nesters @ VA TECH or surrounding areas wth a monday off and a passion for recovery operations feel free to give me a call.
gear is loaded, deep cycles on charge. Dually is gassed up. New winch cable. trailor lights work.
time for bed!
We will be watching this thread and will expect photos- lots of them!
one is copper/brwn trim

Watching with anticipation. Have a safe trip.
You lucky guys over there, Eagles all over the place and just waiting to be picked up!
Loaded and rollin'.
Took the white one, it's undersides literally coming undone as it went onto the trailor.
Made a deal on some more of this guys toys while I was there:
72 dodge polara squad car/pursuit pkg straight roof
74 j20
looks like tomorow won't be my last trip down there...
will upload pics tonight
I hope you can get the white one off in one piece, more or less.

Here they are at their prior home. It was too dark to take pics of the poor white bird once she hit the ground tonight.
This guy was really a good person who cared enough to scrap every POS around them to let me get the time to make ths trip multiple times, the cars were purchased by his dad, passed around the family and eventually parked and forgotton.
He didnt want to scrap them, i think we found a happy medium. I replenished my stock of sx/4 parts i needed with the white car, although it had a 5 speed shift knob it is only a 4 speed. Im happy that it will live on thru other eagles... it is a great donor.
The brown one is a 4.2 4spd no options (radio delete, no lower heat/ac shelf, no options) 105k, title, decent rear springs, less rust than the white one but still terrible. another good parts car but i certainly dont need 2 of em. parts or whole on this one for what it cost for me to save it.
Lots of good parts!
5:27am
Out the door to do it again!
Are you going to be selling any parts?
I'm looking for 2 plastic seatbelt retractor covers.
Where the seatbelt retracts into the body of the car.
I thought you were a little short on Good Eggs for all the rescue work you're doing.

...
I might just take it anyways, just in case.
2doorSedan is going to hook me up with a couple.
What color is yours?
LMAO!!!! EaglePilot you live in Norway?!? Shipping would be a little excessive I think? ;)
Loaded and rolling (and halfway home... It's not even noon!)
yesterday I grabbed the j20
today the narrowtrac 84 waggy woodie.
Turns out this waggy has a good 4.2L, reblt tf999 and a rebuilt np229 ( stack of reciepts)
to me, it sounds like more eagle parts cuz I'm gonna crush the shell once it's stripped.
On a super high note, we verified the j20 motor as a 401 and the d44/60 have 4.27s.
I know FSJs aren't eagles... Just hope u see where I'm goin with all this. Still have the police car, an sx4, nice wagon & pacer to get in the next 2 wks. Stocking up is truly an understatement.
WOW! Another great haul and rescue. That J20 is a treasure trove of useful goodies. Or, is it worth putting back on the road?
LoL @ the thought of ol Rusty McLugnuts (j20) goin back on the road period. It is a terribly rotted body on a good frame with 72k. Came from the same field as the poor white sx4. It's drivetrain and axles are going into a 75 shortbed j10 for dad.
a decent set of bfg at's on this waggy. 215/75r15 means the 2 door is getting new shoes!
I can def take some pics this afternoon, but these are ALL turds that need polishin' so expect worst case scenarios.
...
to be continued...

Eaglepilot, I would appreciate it if you would try to keep your business dealings in personal messages. This is what I call a "hi-jacked" thread. I understand your intentions are good, but aside from this not having anything to do with me or my vehicles, we have never even exchanged pleasantries. I really feel bad that I quoted him more...
It's kinda like stepping on someones toes. This wasn't a for sale thread to begin with.
Please, and thank you.
Sorry,
have removed any evidence, and yes as you write, this was not even a "for sale" thread - that's why I replied to duane2171's question about a certain part I wanted to "give" away for (almost free) to someone who needed it.
Nice save Ed!! I have a j20 and a couple of J10's and my girlfriend has a couple of J10's a 401 is a prime score!!!
I'll be priority mailing you for the parts just as soon as I can get to a post office (tomorrow). I think its a fair price so no worries.
Have you got any pics of the J20? Mine is starting to rust away too. Only a 360 4 spd though....I have the 401 ion the AMX >:D
Great save, I usually do over-easy, so have an egg on me!

That J 20 looks like it has seen better days, but with a 401 it will be very useful for an engine swap I am sure. That roof rack on the brown eagle looks really curious to me. I have never seen anything like that before. Nice saves; have a few eggs.
how is the underside of the grand wagoneer? I had one right before I moved from utah and I have to say i miss that thing in the worst ways and that one is a clone to the one i had even down to the faded/peeling woodgrain
the j20 was parked under a tree in a field for 15 yrs, they used it as a wood truck. 72k miles.
the dana 44 & 60 have 4.27s and some kind of locker in the back
401 turns over and has good compression but i didnt mess with it due to the other vehicles to be picked up
for what it once was, for what it will help the shortbed become...
frame is good, body is rough. Again, being the 6 cyl version i saw it valuable for parts in the future
1984 Grand Waggy
4.2L TF999 NP229
narrow trac 44 & amc 20
reciepts for the trans and tcase, exhaust, front suspension and previous owners docs
A set of Marchal chrome Fogs... looked brand new on the backseat.
looks like I'm gonna have to remember to bring a set of blinders with me when i come to visit cause the more we talk the more I have the feeling I might have to learn to live with sleeping on the couch :P
Bill, at least you get the couch. I was told if I brought home another vehicle I had to sleep in it. Of course that was before I drug the camper home. I bought it knowing full well I might have to sleep in it. I did a few times after I replaced the canvas, and did not let Nikki see it before the new canvas was installed. good luck.
I was wondering if you'd had a chance to pull those covers for me yet?
Did you get my money order?
Ive never seen an sx4 in the white/bronze color combo before. Very nice save!
HI That was a grate save those cars look very good......Don
