I recently switched from an sr4 transmission to a T4 and put a clutch kit and a new slave cylinder into it, but when everything was back together the car behaved like the clutch wasn't dissengaging and I have tried bleeding the system with the methods from the site here and it still won't work. The pedal use to feel spongy but it has gotten alot better since the clutch was bled, the master cylinder seams to seep a little but it dosn't seem to be the culprit. Can some one please help me with this, the car is my daily driver and I don't have another vehicle to use.
Master cylinder should not be seeping. Is the firewall area where it mounts getting soft from deterioration from brake fluid leaks over the years?
The wall isn't soft at all but I didn't figure the small amount of seepage would be able to cause such a problem in the clutch.... although I'm not an expert on hydrylics.
seepage indicates that the rubber cup in master is worn out and bypassing fluid thus a lose of pressure to operate the slave.
My Green car leaks a bit into the car, and other making the floor wet, it hasn't caused me any other problems.
Fair enough, but hard to diagnose over the internet
The master in my 81 leaked probably for years before I got it and it ate up some of the plastic of the fuse box causing some fuse to be loose.
I would throw that crap away and get a master and slave from Speedway motors, not original, but who cares.
I had the same problem after clutch replacement; turned out to be a missing clutch fork ball. The part is out of production, but I was able to find a replacement. (I have extras)
