Well, I've been noticing a lot more AMCs on TV lately
Lime Green 70 AMX on CHop Cut Rebuild
the Gremlin in SUpernatural
Gremlin in Heros
And last night, I was watching Life on Mars, which takes place in 1973, and there was a Pacer commercial on the TV, about being the only big small car I think, which is a mistake for the show, and the only timeline mistake I've noticed so far
this also includes magfazines and other forms of media
I just finished watching Two Lane Blacktop, in one scene, they pull up next to a green 68/9 Javelin that I think has flowers all over it
and in the background is an SC/Rambler
I watched the Starsky and Hutch movie (not worth watching, butchered the original series) and they shot up a Pacer
Don't tell nastydees a Pacer was shot up.
I saw an auto insurance ad this week that featured a Gremlin. Can't remember the company.
Probably the AARP one. A blue Gremlin X?
Yup
which reminds me, I saw an ad for the 24 Hours of LeMons that featured a drawing of a gremlin on its roof, it was in Grassroots Motorsports
I was watching The Librarian (interesting TV movie, worth watching if you have nothing else to do )
and there is a CJ in the background of several scenes
That gecko insurance company has an ad often in the Sunday paper pull out, that has an old 70's pic of a guy and his girl,(prom date) standing next to a white Gremlin.
The Gremlin is the perfect prom date car
i could be wrong, as i always seem to catch it a split second too late to make sure... but i'm almost certain there is a kammback or gremlin in a mini-cooper commercial thats been on lately. Has anyone seen this?
Been watching the 'speed' channel alot lately...(first time I have ever had more than 2 channels in my life)..and during the show PINKS, they run their own napa commercial. Sweet little lime green Spirit in there for a few seconds.
last year, there was a guy on American Idol who raced a Spirit

Some guy I work with gave me an envelope with "we found your high school prom picture" written on it. Inside the envelope was the geico ad with the white gremlin!
Doesn't the Comic Book Guy on the Simpson's drive a Gremlin?
I think this is what you where looking at
(http://i440.photobucket.com/albums/qq124/ramblerman62-87/ithink2.jpg)
I was just wondering where to put this and you already where talking about it how cool
Marge Simpson had one when she was dating Homer.
Yep, and there was also the treehouse of Horror episode where there was one next to the bus
Yupp, thats the ad I saw. 8)

"Terror at 5 1/2 feet" Very entertaining
I watch a lot of simpsons
I was watching Dirty Harry earlier this week, I think I saw a late 60s Rebel go by in one scene
greeeaaat movie
There is a site called IMCDb.org
that lists movie appearances by all makes and models of cars.
Looked for this after seeing some of the cars y'all have seen and a few more in a bunch of older movies.
link to the amc model page:
http://www.imcdb.org/vehicles_make-AMC.html?PHPSESSID=f943608934891397f75cc977588d7e5d
you won't believe how many AMC were there and that you saw them in the movie way back when ....
Aside from all the Bond film appearances, they were everywhere.
Maybe you'll see your own car ...
;)
http://www.javelinamx.com/CarStars/amcbond3.wmv
I saw a Kammback in Who Killed the Electric Car. I had to stop and check, of course. You could clearly see the "4 wheel drive" logo.
Yeah, I saw that in my Engineering Clinic class at the college, I yelled out
THATS MY CAR!!!
The kid next to me was sleeping, he jumped
just finished watching the wedding singer and Robby drives a kammback I think
I remember that movie, has Adam Sandler, right?
That was a 78 Gremlin
http://www.imcdb.org/vehicle_24790-AMC-Gremlin-1978.html
ya I think it was. sorry... same tale lights and hatch right??? show me older cars and I can come closer then the 70-08
I just remembered that on an Episode of 101 Cars You Must Drive, there was a Pacer, on the Party Cars episode
All 3 Back to the Future movies are free on demand, and I was watching the first one, my mom looks over at one part, and says
"Isn't that your car, Shelby, come over and look, Kyles's AMC is on TV"
LOL I love Back To The Future, only here it's, "Look, it's pLaYtHiNg, only NEW!!" LOL I don't think that Eagle had the power bulge hood, though, if I remember correctly. 8)
When I bought the Eagle Nikki did not understand what I was talking about describing it. Not wanting to go out in the cold I pulled out the copy of Back to the Future and went to the scene when Jennifer's Dad picks her up after Marty gets the flyer about the saving the clock tower. Nikki's response: Oh my god you bought a station wagon!"
On the "SPEED" channel, on PINKS ALL OUT, I've seen a lot of AMC's racing. It's not a bad show really.
Larry-Tijeras NM
THere is a Rambler on Third ROck
I just watched Back to the Future last night for about the 1000th time and that was the first time I noticed the Eagle wagon. But its probably the first time I've seen the movie since I became an Eagle owner. Still one of my all time favorite movies!
I remember liking that Eagle when I was little. I noticed it the first time I saw the movie. WHat took time was noticing all the other AMCs in that same sequence. There is a New Cherokee, Wrangler and Grand Cherokee if I remember correctly. I believe AMC paid for the spot.
in the terminator arnold runs over a gremlin with a tanker truck just before the tanker blows up
Also in the terminator Sarah and Reese use a Gremlin as a get-away car after they leave the jail, and push it down a hill to lose the car
wich terminator movie?
Terminator the first one
THere is 33 Nash in one scene of Vanishing point, in the desert with the rotting cars
Weird Al drives Metropolitan in the Movie UHF
I've never seen paint like that on one though
(http://www.imcdb.org/images/048/533.jpg)
It's Cute. ;D
I was watching the Unsolved Mysteries marathon on Spike this last week, and I may be crazy, but I believe there was a case of a murdered man and missing woman that the re-enactments had a 50's Ambassador in it that the man was killed in. I thought it was an American at first, but they did not make the American in 4 door in that body style.
I also got the new Click and Clack (Tom and Ray Magliozzi,) Ask Click and Click: Answers from Car Talk. They mention AMC a couple of times. I need to look back tru the book, but I remember one of the comment eing unfavorable to AMC. Another one mentioned that if they could have any car they would want an Rambler Rebel. And the Pacer was mentioned an featurewd via drawing a couple of times.
That book was entertaining, and I read it in 2 short sittings... hard to put down.
I was watching an episode from season 1 (1982 I think) of Wild America with Marty Stoufer yesterday where he was standing in front of a road giving a "save the world" speech when my wife says "Isn't that an Eagle driving behind him". Sure enough it was. Not 10 seconds later a pacer drives behind him too. I had a very busy day. ;D
i JUST REMEMBERED ONE
i WAS WATCHING THIS THING ON jIMI hENDRIX LAST WEEK, AND i THINK i SAW THE REAR END OF AN eARLY 60S aMERICAN
Crap, stupid caps lock, I don't feel like retyping it
Two Names:
Barrett-Jackson
1959 Nash Metropolitan up right now, at $30000 right now, top seller of the day
Blue and White, continental kit, realllllly nice, what I would give for one of them
Ah, some respect. I suppose right now with the economy the way it is that lower priced AMC's will start to become of interest to collectors. I hope they realize they will probably not hold their value once things straighten out and the traditional collector cars start selling again.
AMC Is still the cheapest of the Muscle cars now
I've never seen an AMC Muscle car sell for over 30K
during a commercial for Pinks all out and Napa, they showed a lime green Spirit (possibly AMX though)
and they had a nice little spot on the Barrett Jackson about the SC/Rambler
These days we have some short advertisement from Coca Cola where you can see yellow Gremlin. (Altough I don´t think how many people know what are they looking at). But it´s quit nice to see AMC.
Has anyone else noticed that AARP is using two different Gremlins?
Has anyone seen Pinapple Express?
In the scene where they hitch a ride in the boat (that is being towed). Is that a Spirit towing the boat? I didn't get a good look at it and my friends who are sick of hearing about AMCs didn't want to rewind it.
I just rented that movie, but I didn't notice! Maybe Sean can do that nifty thing again and find the clip and post it for us all here to see! ;)
I saw that at the Drive In when it was in theaters, I don't remember seeing any AMCs
Found this one today
(http://pithhelmet.files.wordpress.com/2007/12/hellboybig.jpg)
I just watched "Starsky and Hutch" last night and noticed that (somewhere in the middle of the movie) Starsky gets shot at by some dood in a Pacer. They destroyed the back glass in that car!
Eagle Kammback, isn't that a Maverick?
Dutch soul/funk/rock star Boris Titulaer is using an Ambassador in his video clip.

Sorry it did not really look like a Matador to me.
here's one did not see an eagle in, but there was plenty of other AMC's getting smashed in it.. I'm talking about gone in 60 sec 2. the creator also made deadline auto. love his movies wish they remade all of his movies but it still would not be as good as his. yes I'm talking about the "car-crash-king" H.B. Halicki. you know whats weird I fell in love with the original gone in 60 sec. before the remake and still believe it was done right the first time. but I did love the gt mustang in the remake, just cried when she gets killed in the end. oh well check out the 3 or so movies by Toby and you will in joy all the old cars that flash before your eyes
RIP. on Aug 20, 1989.. H.B. Toby Halicki
I actually have the original Gone in 60 Seconds movie, remade on DVD, but I've never seen the refilmed movie. Never really interested me to be honest.
The other day I was at my buddy's house about to go to school, and it turned out the class was canceled, so we went back to his house and was watching TV, My Classic Car came on, and they had a nice spot an a 65 Rambler Marlin
There were a couple mentions of AMCs in The new Click and Clack automotive book that came out recently. I got it for Christmas. They mention both wanting a '65 Rebel MAchine. And they mention AMC two other times about having unique and ugly cars unfortunately. Oh well, press time is press time in my book.
Well even in wanting a '65 Rebel Machine, they discredit themselves. The Machine was not produced until 1970 (?) Maybe Mick should take them for a Terror Ride in his wagon, or maybe Joshpit in his SX/4...
CaptCarl
I believe Rebels were still Classics in '65. I had one, a '65 Classic that is.
:rotfl:
in 67 there was a Rebel Machine concept, flat black, and perfectly raked
but that is the closest they were to
Well let me look it up again. Maybe they said Ambassador. I finished that book quite some time ago, and I have finished 3 others since.
I got Corvette Summer on DVD (just before I found out I was laid off, I've got bad timiing with money)
and it was very hard to watch the beginnig, it features a Rambler Classic going to (and through) the crusher
::Gasp:: The Horror!!! :'( ::)
Although Corvette Summer is a pretty cool name for a movie! ;)

I'm not 100% sure though
I remember a character in Monk (that guy he's always competing with) was driving a Gremlin in one episode
Have we ever linked here before. These are Eagles, apparently you can search for others. http://imcdb.org/vehicles.php?make=AMC&model=Eagle&modelMatch=1&modelInclModel=on
If you do the pacer the MIB II sighting I mentioned previously is in the first row of pictures.
yeah, but that doesn't always list everything, like the Gremlin in Supernatural, I've been asking them to put it up, and they still haven't
Just Watched
What About Bob
hillarious movie,
well, the main car throughout the movie is an AMC Jeep Wagoneer, you could even see the AMC Jeep emblem on the front
I rented Beer For My Horses on Monday, there is a cool lifted CJ in that in one scene
hillarious movie, with some sweet trucks, plus Ted Nugent is in it
I'll have to get that movie. I have not seen it. When in the Psych finale did you see the Rambler Eagle Kammback? Just curious. Watched it 2.5 times now, and don't remember a Rambler. I could be crazy though.
when they pan over the drive in
I'm watching 70s Tech on Modern Marvels, and they had a thing on the Trans Am, but druing thatm, they showed a Hornet AMX, Pacer, Gremlin, then Pacer again
I'll have to pay more attention when that Episode of Psych is repeated again.

and i was watching The Office somewhere in season 3 on DVD and I thought i saw an SX/4 but i couldn't find the scene again after i watched it. (i watched all of season 3 again) anyone watch the office and have noticed?
in the movie the goonies, the first couple of min chunk says "ORV"? what did that mean off road v. I guess I have never heard of it. or just to young.
I was watching hte movie Gator (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uEyvYnUXD4M) (Jerry Reed's Best Acting in my opinion) and fo a while, Burt Reynolds is driving a Matador Wagon
just saw death race in the last scene they are working on a rambler wagon looks like early 60's model
I turned on the TV to watch Life on MArs, and at the end, there was a cool old CJ Jeep
oddly, of all the people i would be shocked to see driving a Matador wagon... Burt Reynolds isn't one of them.
Lastnight we were watching the 1989 movie "Driving Miss Daisy" starring Morgan Freeman, Jessica Tandy and Dan Akroyd. There are allot of beautiful old cars in this movie.
In this movie Dan Akroyd's mother played by Jessica Tandy is aging and no longer able to drive for herself. Dan Akroyd hires Morgan Freeman to be a personal chauffeur for her. The first new car Morgan Freeman drives as her personal chauffeur is a beautiful maroon colored Hudson.
The movie covers several decades, beginning in about 1947 or 1948 starting with the maroon colored Hudson. That Hudson is gorgeous.
Later on in 1966/1967 Morgan Freeman is chauffeuring Jessica Tandy home after the temple bombing scene in a new Cadillac. As they drive through a neighborhood I noticed what I am almost sure is a copper colored AMC Eagle wagon. It is parked in a garage with the garage door open at a fairly nice home. There is a white gooseneck enclosed trailer parked sideways in front of the Eagle wagon and a blue 1967 Chevrolet pickup parked in front of the house.
Then the scene repeats itself as they are driving and talking in the Cadillac and shows the copper colored AMC Eagle at a closer view. We rewound it several times and zoomed in to get a closer look. It's fun to find little errors like this in movies, but especially when we can find AMC cars that were not yet manufactured at the time the movie takes place.
Yes, it is fun to see those goofs now and then. The best they could do time wise would be 1971 since the Sportabout was so similar.
Yeah it is fun to see little goofs like that in movies. It drives my wife crazy, but I am really good at spotting them.

I saw the add myself.......... :'(
I havent seen the commercials but I will watch. According to tvguide.com...
This Wednesday at 9 pm/ET, Discover Channel's MythBusters — led by Jamie Hyneman and Adam Savage — returns with a "Demolition Derby Special," in which our stalwart experimenters try to flip a bus (à la Speed), compact a compact car, and mimic a remarkable Lexus commercial.
I just checked the discovery channel page, and supposedly tonights show is in Alaska. They only mention a couple of myths, and the one that involves a car is "can a V shaped snow plow really split a car in two". [insert noise of despair here] Hopefully I misread and they're doing somthng else to it....
I saw this commercial last week and thought that they were smashing an Eagle wagon. :'( I hope it goes out in true Mythbusters style.
I'm appalled. They should demolish something replaceable.
I HAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAATE MYTHBUSTERS!!

seems pretty accurate to the commercial.
sad ending, but thats the 1st time a eagle has been on a bigtime tv show in a while.
I am boycotting mythbusters now
WHO'S WITH ME?!!
I saw an ad for the show. They are smashing what appeared to be an Eagle into something. Could be a Concord or Sportabout --- I only caught a brief glimpse. It definitely was a small bodied AMC wagon.
Its on in like 20 minutes, also a re-run at 12.
I'm watching it right now.
I guess they are doing the test in Wisconsin.
Go figure, they are pretty :censored:' common in Wisconsin.
I'm %98 sure it's an Eagle.
OH, and the myth is that a car can be split in two by a v-plow.
They must not realize that Eagle's are not built like "normal" cars.

It doesn't take a smaet guy to know that isn't true
they are destroying our cars in testing myths they know aren't possible
another commercial...
they got TWO AMC's!
One wagon(and Eagle Wagon with Concord marker lights) to test for a front engine car.
And one Sedan( appears to be a concord, but the grill could have been swapped) for a rear engine car.
I guess they are gonna put the engine from this car out from under the hood, and into the trunk to make a rear engine car??
and they arent using just one!! they are using friggn two of them. a wagon and a 4dr sedan.
im going to write them a letter or something.
knowing mythbusters they are most likely going to blow them up at the end also.
edit: hard to watch, but the wagon held up nicely, didnt get quite to the windshield, not bad for 55mph dead on into a snowplow.

Well, i missed the show, I'm kinda glad, it would have made me feel sick.
Yes PLEASE write them a letter. Not only are they destroying an Eagle, but they're obviously messed up about the engine thing AND they aren't even doing good science, taking a unique style of car as a representation of a typical car HUGE mistake......should have used a new car, the myth would have been true and the Eagle wouldn't be busted.....ugh.
I did write them a letter

I was just watching My Name is Earl, and there was one scene wit a guy chasing randy with a car door
right behind them, was a copper Gremlin missing a door with a wimpy sounding horn
I am not sure if it was mentioned yet, but in the new Adam Sandler movie "Bedtime Stories" (my boys new favorite movie) there is a funny scene with midgets in a Gremlin.
I am watching Harper's Island
and there was a scene showing a bar, and there was a blue Hornet Sportabout, 73-74 I think
lots of shots of it now, walking around it and everything, not the best shots, but a lot
I was watching a Mini Series called Breaking Bad on AMC and there was a tan Eagle wagon in the opening scenes of the show. I thought it was kind of fitting that the show was on AMC. The show will air again this evening 5/17/09 at 11pm. eastern daylight time. Maybe someone will be able to catch it.
If you watch the music Video called pinch me by the barenaked ladies. there is some Pacers in that throughout the whole video. Its a good song too, at least I think.
BNL also had another song with some Pacers, I think going through a drive through
It was One Week IIRC
I'll have to watch that cause I've never seen the video for it. I've heard the song 100 times or more i can't believe I've never seen the video. I remember when it came out and when it was #1 on the charts.
I was wrong, I found the video
just a General Lee 68 Charger and the Gran Torino from Starsky and Hutch
Still cool cars though
I was watching the old 80s flick Loverboy a few weeks ago and there is an Eagle (or maybe a Concord, I can't remember) in one of the background scenes.
And a Grand Wagoneer has a staring role as the Wife's (Skyler?) ride. Good show, by the way. It can be slow at times, but still good.

The movie drag me to heck ( its a comedy beleive it or not ) has an old wagoneer in the car garage scene.
I watched Bethoven III yesterday for the first time, and I got a kick out of the 2 guys in the yellow Pacer. The poor Pacer. What they did not do to it and what they did not put it through. I about choked when I saw cement pour all over that beautiful yellow paint job. I was not sure if Eagle Kammback had written on this movie, or not but it sure was fun to watch the antics with the Pacer.
Has anyone seen or mentioned Pineapple Express??
There's a car in there pulling a huge boat... very obvious as it pulls up. Looks kinda like a Pinto... but could be a Gremlin or Spirit? Someone has too look this up that knwos what they're talking about.
If you can't tell a Gremlin from a Pinto then your eyes are worse than mine.
I found that scene online about a month ago, and it took me an hour to come to a non amc conclution.
With the recent passing of David Carradine, it's worth mentioning that the movie "Cannonball" (NOT Cannonball Run) features Rambler after Rambler after AMC. They are all through it, everywhere in the movie if you pay attention. In one scene a deputy sheriff is driving a '66 Classic hardtop, chasing a couple of main characters around a highway construction site, and there is a scene near the end where there is a huge pileup on the freeway after Joe Don Baker(I think that's who it is) is shot, and there are AMCs, Nashes and Ramblers in the big pile of burning smashed up cars. Carradine plays the major part, a guy who rules that race, and his name is "Cannonball". He drives a pretty nice '73 Formula Firebird.
It's a terrible B movie about the West Coast to East Coast running of the Cannonball.
I will have to remember to watch that again some time.
I'll give you a little sneak peak, and let you know a nest member (not me) Is going to play a killer in a crime show on one of the discovery channels, and he talked them out of using a late 70's Mercury in Lu of his 87 wagon..... I'll have him post the details.

Either he/she does not want to outrun the police or its an off road chase scene -- that would be interesting.
I would LOVE to see a chase scene with an Eagle
I can't wait to see it
If you pick up the most recent issue of Hot Rod, there is a whole section on 3 AMC Hot Rods, 2 Gremlins and a Spirit GT
That chase scene should be interesting.
Eagle Kammback, thanks for the heads up. I'll have to get that issue.
I can't guarantee a chase, but at least its in the episode.
My son informs me that HBO has a series coming out called True Blood that will have a red Gremlin in it.
IDK if some has mentioned this yet but if you ever watch the movie The persuit of happiness, which I thought was a good movie, There are a lot of AMC's in it. He drives a concord 2 door.

In the latest Coleman camping products commercial, it's done with a lot of old home movie footage. One brief shot towards the end of the commercial features a Rambler Cross Country wagon, a black one, about a '59 or '60 model.
The last episode of Harper's Island that my wife was watching, they finally decided to drive away in the Hornet Sportabout that's usually sitting in front of the lodge, it gets shot up pretty good though, along with one of the people in the car...
I guess I won't be watching that show anymore then
the only Time Magazine I ever purchased, and ever will purchase has a small section on some cars from the 70s
one Gremlin, and one Pacer, called the Pacer a car only the Jetzons could love, and the Gremlin was apparently named after a creature that disliked mechanical stuff (I never saw the movie Gremlins, was that what they were talking about) 12.00 magazine, I got it for 9.80 because of my employee discount, most expensive magazine I ever purchased ever

grem·lin (grmln)
n.
1. An imaginary gnomelike creature to whom mechanical problems, especially in aircraft, are attributed.
2. A maker of mischief.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
[Perhaps blend of Irish gruaimín, bad-tempered little fellow (from Middle Irish gruaim, gloom, surliness) and goblin.]
Word History: Elves, goblins, and trolls seem to be timeless creations of the distant past, but gremlins were born in the 20th century. In fact, gremlin is first recorded only in the 1920s, as a Royal Air Force term for a low-ranking officer or enlisted man saddled with oppressive assignments. Said to have been invented by members of the Royal Naval Air Service in World War I, gremlin is used in works written in the 1940s for "an imaginary gnomelike creature who causes difficulties in aircraft." The word seems likely to have been influenced by goblin, but accounts of its origin are various and none are certain. One source calls in Fremlin beer bottles to explain the word; another, the Irish Gaelic word gruaimín, "ill-humored little fellow." Whatever the word's origin, it is certain that gremlins have taken on a life of their own.
I like the second definition. Gremlins sure did cause mischief to Ford and Chevy.

I saw that too. kind of funny comercial.
There's another Swiffer commercial where the mop is driving past the house in the Gremlin. There's also an interior shot of the car.
I was just watching my favorite educational program on PBS, the Red Green Show, and Red made an announcement to the members of the Possum Lodge that you can't jump start a '78 Gremlin with a kitchen stove...
I watched the movie Across the Universe, and in one scene, you can see the distinct roofline of an old Rambler Wagon in the background
that movie will most be my movie of the month for next month

Beep Beep :)
i'm not sure this qualifies as "the media" as its an online link, and its a cartoon Gremlin, but for those of you with a "different" sense of humor, I think you'll like this homestarrunner halloween cartoon
http://www.homestarrunner.com/homestarloween.html
Here's a couple.
National lampoons vacation, the first one, when Chevy Chase is trying to find the gas cap to the family truckster, he pears around the gas pump to see a little girl flipping the license plate down for her mom to reveal the gas cap on (from what I remember) an eagle wagon. He tries it and rips his license plate off and launches over to where the eagle is. lol.
The opening credits to Gremlins, when the father is narrating in china town, right before he enters the pawn shop, the camera pans by a Gremlin ::)(go figure, lol). I never noticed it until I watched the movie (for probably about the 100th time) the other day.
I saw a movie called "10 Items or Less" the other day, a touchy-feely independent flick with Morgan Freeman, he befriends this cashier chick in L.A. that drives a Gremlin. It's kind of strange, they show a lot of the Gremlin, it even gets a wash and detail. The car is a '74-75 body style with a '73 interior transplant.
Well, I was looking up George Burns movies, and watched the trailer for Oh God, there is a Pacer in it!
Looks good, I'll have to watch it sometime
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oX3vRgnsUtY
Yes, the Pacer is seen throughout the movie as it is John Denver's transportation in the movie.
you know what i would like to see, is an eagle or other amc get overhauled on the tv show overhauling.
I would love to have them do my Kammback, unfortunately, Overhaulin is only West Coast
Fortunately, so is Pimp my Ride
ya one can only dream though. lol :occasion14:
Overhaulin is cancelled. It has been for a season or so. It has been a long time since I have heard of a new episode of "Pimp my Ride" or "Trick my Truck" for that matter.
Pimp my ride is now on Speed, at least it was last time I checked
Also, isn't Pimp my ride the opposite of speed?

In the back to the future movies, the eagle in the 1st one doesnt have the power bulge hood but in either the 2nd or 3rd one it does, a bit of a mistake in the movies accuracy considering its supposed to be the same car, lol
Not sure if we've hit this one...
I was doing a toy drive for the radio station this past weekend and watched Home Alone 2 about seven times... anyways, theres a part where the scenes change for a second from Kevin in NY to their family in the crappy hotel in Florida.... its raining and you see a glimpse of the parking lot... there's a green pacer or gremlin sitting there.

The wrecked AMC in the alternate 1985 scene at Jennifer's house in Back to the Future II is a Hornet Sportabout not a Concord. It is a mid-70's Hornet Sportabout. You can tell because it has the single round headlights on either side not the square.
I have seen those movies too many times.
Flipping through the channels the other night I saw an AMX and paused. It ended up being an episode of spike TV's "Manswers". The segment was dealing with if women could was a car with certain parts of their body. They can. That's all I have to say about that.

I never could figure out why, when Marty went from 1955 to 1888 to rescue Doc from being shot they had trouble fixing the Delorean. When Marty went back to 1888 an Indian arrow punctures the gas line right? So Marty leaves it in a cave & goes off to find Doc. They then try to run the Deloren, that Marty came to 1888 in from 1955, on Moon shine right ? & the car supposedly blows the intake manifold or fuel injection unit. At that point of the movie there are now 2 Delorean's in 1888 ! The car that Doc got sent back in time to 1955 in when lightning struck him flying around above Marty , as well as the car Marty went back to get Doc in. Just like in the second movie you had two Doc's & two Marty's. So the question is why didn't they get parts off of the Delorean Doc had hidden in the mine & THEN go back to the future (1985)? Because the movie just would have ended there , that's why! LOL
Never think about time travel too much, you will go mad, then your head will implode
Back in 74 my dad was a construction superintendent for a swimming pool company and had a 74 Hornet as a company vehicle. I just found out yesterday that his boss bought a few AMC Hornets for the fleet right after seeing "The Man with the Golden Gun". He told my dad he could go from job to job like James Bond. I guess movie marketing does work.

If you go back in time and kill an ancestor how could you have been born to go back in time etc.
What happens if you go back in time and meet yourself?
Sorry 'bout that. I read a lot of science fiction.
If you go back in time to specifically do something, and you do it, that means you never would have had to go back and do that, which means you won't do it........

According to the BAck to the Future idea, you could go back in time and meet yourself as long as you are able to handle the stress of the meeting (i.e. Jennifer just fainted).
However, using the "logic" of another time travel movie, Time policeman, the same matter cannot occupy the same space at the same time (which doesn't really make sense when you think about the statement). In that movie the villain travels in time to meet with his future self, and the two versions of him are pushed together. Then they cease to exist. So you could meet yourself if time trael was possible as long as you didn't shake hands or have any contact.
Man that is a freaky thought. If I met myself we'd either get a long great or absolutely hate each other. That would be interesting to find out.
I saw either a Concord or a Hornet on a 2000 made for TV movie called...Meat Loaf: To HeII and Back.
I got Woodstock on dvd (OK, that movie blew my mind, especially Ten Years After - I'm Going Home) there is some great footage of cars, and I think I saw a Rambler Classic in one scene (or should I say half of one scene, watch it and you'll find out why)
Watching The French Connection, there was a scene with people auctioning on cars, a Rambler 4 Door Sedan sells for $25
Dante's Peak, near the beginning of the movie, when Linda Hamilton and pierce brosnan are First heading up to Her ex-grandmother's place (whoever) they have a shot of the yard when Linda and Pierce first pull in, and in the yard, I could have sworn I saw an Eagle Wagon. It's in the right corner of the movie.
I just saw it on tv (On AMC Network) and I can't rewind to check it. Anyone got this movie, and can verify it?
I also remember The first Terminator movie, when that Gremlin was stolen from the police station, and then they ran outta gas, then it was smashed by Arnold in the tanker truck. I also remember 'The Man With The Golden Gun' and Roger Moore stole that Hornet outta the dealership, and did that jump across that stream (or whatever it was)
And the commericals for the swiffer duster...
And the Garth Mobile - A Pacer on Wayne's World.
Kinda cool catching those old AMC's on movies. You guys are much better at spotting them, then I am.
The Sandra Bullock movie....About Steve ??? something like that, she hitches a ride a in the back of a Gremlin, lol.
Was watching the 1974 movie Earthquake and there is a 1969 Rebel, sandy brown color, driving in to a parking ramp ahead of Charleton Heston. Also, later in the movie, there is a 1974 Sportabout, white Hornet, that is down in the parking ramp where people are trapped and they are rescued. The people climb on top of the Hornet's hood to get out.
Let me try again. Seems like every time I try to do this I mess something up & then can't find it again. Don't remember if this was already posted by somebody else or not. If so, I apologize. Married with Children there's a couple episodes. One is when they decide to go on vacation & get stuck in traffic. What looks to me to be an Eagle sedan is behind him ( dark brown ) . Shown a couple times. Then another episode ( I think, been a few weeks since I watched it ) the one where Buck ( the dog ) gets a girl friend & she gets him kicked out. Same car passing by the alley.
I think its a Spirit, but hard to tell for sure.
In the opening credits of Good Luck Chuck there's a Gremlin on he street in the 1985 scene.
Just saw a radio shack ad for cell phones. Two Eagles ( Bald Eagles, that is ) sitting in trees talking to each other on their phones.
I can't believe I forgot about this 80's spoof of a movie called "Munchies". :rotfl: Little creatures steal a Gremlin and go out terrorizing the general public :laughing1: .
In the opening scene of Lethal Weapon 2 there's a 4-door Eagle sedan in traffic
Outside the drive-in restaurant in The Great Outdoors there's an Eagle wagon parked in the opposite lot.
Anybody ever seen The Wall? WEIRD movie, it weirded me out, creeped me out, freaked me out, and I love it

I've got that movie, watched it like 40 times or more and I don't remember the cars. Is it during the part when the cartoon hammer smashes the glass, and those guys are robbing the store, then the policemen come and take them away, and you see the old ladies start stealing as soon as the policemen back's are turned?
That's the only place I can think of in the movie where policemen show up...

That movie (A Clowork Orange) was rather disturbing....
in the movie without a paddle 2 natures calling one of the main characters is dropped of at school in a blue eagle wagon at the beginning of the movie.
I think he does...
And not sure if this one was mentioned, but the HBO series about vampires living in a modern society amongst us in the open... it's called "Trueblood". I do not recomend this series for any youngins as it shows EVERYthing... it's HBO.. but anyways, there's a chick that drives a SUPER nice Gremlin throughout at least the first season.
I tried finding a picture of it, but no luck. :/
Maybe someone with better eyes than me can spot some. Have been watching Dragnet on hula hoop or whatever it's called. Lots of FORDS, Mopars, & garbage. No AMCs in my eyes.
Maybe somebody with better eyesight & more AMC knowledge can check me. I've finished Dragnet & started Adam 12. On the very first episode ( season 1 - Episode 1 ) I thought I saw a Rambler in the very first call they answered. Dark brown 4 door sedan. Saw it again in Season 1 - Episode 4 where the guy stops them to tell them he thought he heard a fight ( think they called him T.J. ). Interesting side note, it's parked behind a crapilac & then later in the same show when they go somewhere else, there's the crapilac & Rambler again parked the same way.
Later Adam 12's are AMC heavy as AMC was the provider of vehicles for the show. This occurred when the LAPD switched to Matadors for their fleet. Malloy has in at least one episode, as his private car, a Matador Barcelona. I forget what Reed drives, but since he is a family man, in the show, I bet its a big wagon.
That's cool. Just wasn't sure what I saw, thought it was some type of Rambler, didn't look like an American. Seen also in episodes 5 & 6. Looks like the only one they had then. Plenty of other stuff.
I actually just spotted a Pacer in a Music video, thought I would post a link to the emusic video through You Tube.

Please ignore the horrible music :P I just was watching the pacer. lol
that music video is for the "disney channel original movie" starstruck the car makes it about halfway through the movie before they sink it in quicksand. seeing them do that made me want to throw up.
Just saw the Adam 12 Rambler again. Season 2 episode 25. Got a good ( or at least a lot better ) shot this time. My eyes, still not sure, think it said Ambassador on the hood. Left ( driver's ) front.
was watching some music videos and spotted a pacer in the alien ant farm video for their remake of smooth criminal.
television series "freaks and geeks" one of the prominent characters drives a gremlin. in one episode.. her mother was going to sell it even though it belongs to the daughter whose aunt gave it to her.. boy did the daughter freak out!! She was SOOOOOOO upset.
Just spotted another Rambler ( trunk says Rambler ). Adam 12 ( still not finished ), season 3, episode 22. Almost the end between 23:15 - 23:30 mark. Looks a little used, not quite as nice as the first Rambler I spotted. Not sure which one it is, I'd guess around a '65 somewhere. Looks to me to be similar to Studebaker Lark / Mopar Dart / Valiant in shape & size.
Classic or American, probably.

Two words: Knight Rider 8)
I watched this show religiously as a kid, and thought it was totally awesome back then. Well, 25 years later I still think it's totally awesome but for entirely different reasons. I never realized just how jam-packed it is with AMC sightings.
Last Christmas my wife finally gave in and got me the entire box set (thanks, honey). The only stipulation was that I had to watch it while she wasn't around, so she didn't have to "suffer through it" as she put it. I finally got an opportunity to watch awhile ago, threw in the first disc, and just five minutes into the first episode is a light blue Eagle sedan in the background of a parking lot scene. :o
The sightings just keep rolling from there. Unfortunately an early Gremlin gets wrecked during one episode about a stunt show, but mostly the AMCs are just background dressing. In another episode, a parkade scene features at least four Hornets and Concords. In that same episode, our hero David Hasselhoff valiantly scoops a damsel in distress from the path of a speeding car and they tumble onto the hood of a Concord. ::) There's one red '73 Gremlin that shows up in about five different episodes. ;D
I'm on Season 2, Episode 3 now, and still racking up the AMC visuals. Ah, guilty pleasures... :P

Kojak Seas. 1 Ep. 1, Ambassador early in the show. Then ( I think ) Ep.7? I believe it was a Hornet somewhere around ( I think ) around 7½ - 8 minute mark. Memory has been known to lie to me before, so I'm not sure about the details on the second one.
Maybe Terry Gale or the So Cal AMC club provided the cars.

A front shot of the AMX. The marquee identifies the parallel universe. Maybe in that universe AMC survived and is the #1 automaker today! ;)

Whaddaya Think?
Are those cups accurate for that time period.... Not car related, but I can help it.

WHAT EPISODE WAS IT? WHAT DATE DID IT AIR?
FRINGE - Series Episode #36 - Season 2 Episode 16 - Aired: April 1, 2010 - Title: "Peter"
You can watch it at Hulu.com (http://www.hulu.com/fringe) - that is actually where I went to get those screen grabs.
JayRamb, no I don't think those cups are appropriate for 1985.
Just was looking through a couple magazines while waiting for the Eagle to get inspected ( forget name, Good Guys? Good Buddies? Good something is all I remember ). 2 issues, Dec. '09 & Jan. ( I think ) '10. Dec. had a nice shot of an AMX painted with the Red, White, & Blue color scheme. Not many AMCs in them. Mainly older stuff ( more like my memories of Rod & Custom ), what I call " Street Rods ". '40s, & '50s mainly with a little bit of stuff going either direction. Some back in the '30s ( maybe even '20s ) & up into the '60s with a few even in the '70s. I forget which issue, they had what they dubbed a .... :censored: I forget now. Anyway it was a cross between a Rambler & a Ferrari ( I think ), maybe a Rabarini ( Cross between a Rambler & Lamborghini ). AAADD & CRS still. I actually thought the nose resembled a '70s camaro.
Some nice AMC reading in the latest issue of Hemmings Classic Cars.
I was just reading that, the one of Humpster Javelins and AMXs right?
A guy my dad works with gives him his magazines when he is finished reading them, Hemmings is always great for AMC content
Just played with Google & found it's called Goodguys magazine. Don't remember the names of the articles in it with the Ramblers / AMCs.
This comic appeared several years back....
that was to good.
Heck a pristine '72 Gremlin might actually bring that much.

I agree, possibly a bit more.... Good cartoon though.
I remember reading that a long time ago in the paper, but I didn't get the joke back then, ::) (always been a Gremlin fan).
So the car reviewer for the Denver Post did a "look back" in his column a couple months ago. The look back was of his comparison of four sub-compacts in 1980, including the Spirit. He chose the picture of the Spirit to include in the column which was pretty cool. Now remember, this is the West, "where seldom is heard, a discouraging word" and this reviewer rarely has anything bad to say about any of the cars he tests out. Which comes through in this article, as he finds good things to say about the Pinto, the Chevette, and the Dodge Omni! Of course, the nice things he has to say about the Spirit were totally accurate lol. Enjoy!

He actually said good things about a shoveit & ominus? Poor guy.
not sure if I posted this before, but back in the 90s, my favorite game, Interstate '76, had some AMCs in it,an AMX, a Gremlin, somebody told me the sequel, Interstate '82 had a Pacer, but I never played that one
then there is Vigilante 8, which is the, not as fun, playstation equivalent, the sequel had an Eagle Wagon
(http://www.igcd.net/images/006/514.jpg)
and in one of my favorite console games, Driver: Parallel Lines, there is a Pacer, and a car that vaguely resembles everything, and partly a Javelin, this one takes place in 78, which is why I love it
Found this today, fits me perfectly too

On Modern Marvels, I just saw a Gremlin rear-end a Spirit Sedan - I think. (exploding gas tank)
And also footage of a Gremlin going head-on into something that looked Matador-like.
The episode is called "Breaking Points".
Possibly at the AMC proving grounds?
Check out the latest issue of Hemmings Classic Cars it is full of AMC and AMC related goodies: VAM Gremlins; Jeepsters, Hudson and Patrick Foster's usual AMC themed column.
I really need to subscribe to Hemmings. I didn't realize that Patrick Foster had a column. I think I have a couple of his books.
Newest Motor Trend ( NEW 302 Mustang on the cover ) has an article about Edsel names. Turns out they actually had one called Spacer before AMC came out with theirs. AMC pictured by the name.
was it this video?

looks a bit too nice to actually have parts sitting on it, not sure what that part is.. but still.
I bet the part is carefully placed on the Eagle. Who ever loaned them the car was probably adamant about that.
Don't know whether this one has been mentioned, last night while watching the tube, what I believe was an auto insurance ad, normally I don't pay attention to comercials so I don't remember exactly what company it was for. Reguadless, what caught my eye was the guy stewing/sobbing over his wrecked AMC era XJ cherokee/wagoneer, toatled from behind, the commercial continued with the insurance agent driving down a dusk two lane, pulling off the side to take a picture of a "For Sale" FSJ Grand Wagoneer and sending it to the customer, this goes without saying but the guy was happy.
Even Insurance Companies "get it".
I saw that yesterday too. Great commercial!
I was reading the latest issue of Popular Hot Rodding at work yesterday (BTW, my friend Scott's '65 Impala Daily Driver is in there) and come across a full page on a GOOOOOORGEOUS Black 67 Rebel, that is one of the best looking cars of all time IMO
Eagles start on page 3; which should be the page the link goes to: http://imcdb.org/vehicles.php?resultsStyle=asImages&yearFrom=&yearTo=&makeMatch=2&make=AMC&modelMatch=1&model=&modelInclModel=on&modelInclChassis=on&origin=&page=3
Can't believe nobody's mentioned Police Academy ( the first one ). Mahoney parks on top of an American(? some type of small Rambler ) & they use AMCs for police cars.
In police Academy they were using Ambassadors (almost sure) as they were used as real police cars in the states.

Nope, they were Matadors. LAPD bought a bunch of them back in the day. AMC's exposure on show's like Adam 12 really gave AMC a boost.
there's a wagoneer in the movie meet dave with eddie murphy.
I happened to turn on the tv the other day, and National Lampoons Vacation was on. I didn't notice it before but as Chevy Chase is running out after robbing the hotel at the grand canyon, a white Eagle wagon passes by, lol.
was watching black dynamite yesterday and saw a pacer in it.
Enemy of the State had a really nice GW in several scenes.
Do books count?
I have the complete series of Matt Helm books by Donald Hamilton.
"The Infiltrators" was copyrighted in 1984.
Our hero was madly in love with his Mazda RX7, with which he had been out-driving all the bad guys.
However, when he took a crew up into the mountains to waylay the crooks, he left his Mazda in town
and caught a ride with another agent in a "floosy four-wheel-drive station wagon called Eagle, distantly
related to the old utilitarian jeep."
Later he had go off road to save the girl, so he, with difficulty, persuaded the agent to trade vehicles
and let him use the Eagle. He was soon rolling down the four-lane highway in the "fancy FWD Eagle".
The Eagle promptly stuck itself in the first sand arroyo.
He got out to lock the hubs and couldn't find any to lock. He also couldn't find a lever to engage the front wheels.
All else had failed so he read the directions and discovered all he had to do was flip a simple little switch - - -
With all four pulling she came right out, and the next arroyo was no problem.
This could almost have been a commercial for AMC.
Someone did their homework when they wrote that. I like Clive Cussler books and in almost every one at least one if not more classic cars are used by the hero. He is partial to Jeeps, usually XJ's, in the Dirk Pitt novels, now to ask him to feature an Eagle or anything AMC would be nice.
Donald Hamilton always did his homework regarding firearms and vehicles.
I plan to remember the phrase about the "floosy" Eagle.
I like the Dirk Pitt books, too.
There's a pizza comerical out now with a Gremlin in it
I guess I'm going to have to buy that book now
and I watched The Gumball Rally again last night, lots of AMCs in that
Was just watching an older episode of 'Without a Trace'. There was a 75 Pacer, Red in the show.
I remember that episode when it came out, I was watching it in one room, my brother and parents were watching it in another
I saw the Pacer, just yelled "PACER!! really loud
my brother said my dad said "Wait for it....." hust before I yelled it
Heard on the radio today (that's media isn't it?) That George HW Bush owned a purple Levis Gremlin.
Wonder how much that would be worth now, if it is even still around
looks what popped up on the side of facebook for me just now

Pick up the NASCAR mag that has the old 21 Purolator Mercury in that
some great old Hudson and Nash pictures from NASCARs early days, and of course, the Penske Matadors
In Hot Tub Time Machine there's a glimpse of a Pacer when they're first in town back in the 80's. It was a fast shot but I'm sure of it.
First in town would be '75 -- they stopped making them in 1980. They were a good car that was terribly maligned for being different.

I have not seen the movie but I think "first in town" might refer to one of the time changes or a scene in the movie.
Anyone post anything about the movie 'Weird Science'? in the scene when Gary is driving the blonde girl home in the red Ferrari, and they evade the policemen, and then he passes his parents... Well, they are driving a 4 door Eagle. Just saw that scene.
I've been watching the first season of a show called 'The Riches' on my snazzy Roku box through Netflix.. so i couldn't tell you if it was on regular TV or on cable somewhere.. but its a good show, and episode 6 or 7 i think, they are in a 'gypsy' camp of sorts, attending a funeral/arranged wedding.. and theres a pretty little yellow and black Gremlin parked behind them.

An old Metropolitan! Who would have thunk! I want to buy my wife one. (Well, that's my story...)
It probly has been posted before but there was a pacer on that show Pinks all out ....... won the final round against a blue camaro
on bill engvall's show for 15° Off Cool he has a red Gremlin with the white stripe on it on the stage behind him. and then on a episode of phineas and ferb in one of dr.doofenshmirtz's flashbacks he has a Gremlin.
I was LMAO, just watched "Pinks" all out, and a Pacer, complete with the woodgrain and a wagon to beat, just took the $10,000 , allthough it did have a 2010 vette motor in it , and a woman driveing. woot woot !
I saw now F/X 1. Escape from police parking place, pair of people is running before explosion of other cars in brown Eagle sedan. ;D
I don't know if this is posted (and I'm not gonna look thru all these pages)

The EVIL car mastermind is a Pacer and the sidekick is a Gremlin. Hehe...

in superman 3 Lana Lang one of Clark Kent's (aka superman) old high school classmates has a yellow matador wagon.
In the movie Boogie Nights, when Mark Walbergh's character runs off from home, you can see a Pacer wagon in the driveway (
Great movie by the way)
In the TV movie "Pirates of Silicone Valley" about the rivalry between Apple and Microsoft from the early 70's into the 90's there is a Spirit in the scene when Steve Jobs goes to visit his daughter when she is 6 or 7.
Mike Damone on Fast Times at Ridgemont High had a green Gremlin. And another one that comes is the Waynes world Pacer. In The Great Outdoors John Candy had a wagoneer..the movie was made in 88 though so there is a possibility it may have been a chrysler model.
In one of Michael Moore's films (I think it's 9-11) where it shows a very young George W going to work, he's driving a blue, I think one of those denim, Levis Gremlins.
I don't know if these candies are somehow sold outside of Italy, but here's a spot, and I can definitely see a red Pacer there !

Nice find.
My daughter has been watching the movie MegaMind daily for the past few days. I have not really paid much attention to it, but today I had to pause it and back up the movie frame by frame. I noticed a Rambler AMerican on the side of the road in one shot.
Then right after that shot they show a parking lot in the background with what looks like a woodgrain Concord.

Wow..Great eye!! I went and saw that movie at the theatre...Never noticed that Eagle though....I was a typical ten year Nintendo junkie and I had the biggest crush on that red head girl....I saw that movie like six times in a row!!...LOL I wonder where shes at now??...the Eagle not the red head ;D...The red head, (Jenny Lewis) is a musician now...FYI ;D

Very Pacer like. There are some differences though. Someone's idea of what they thought a Pacer should look like?
I'm no expert, and without looking up pics of the pacer, it looks like the got the front end/grille wrong. The back looks close, but I can't place it, but when I look at the hood near the front, it don't look right.
Front is really wrong, back has some issues.
Actually, it's not a bad look for the car, it's just not accurate.
Sometimes, that's the best a videogame can do...Depends on how much eye for detail they had or what the graphics and available space allowed them to do.
as i said before the grill, headlights and the rest of the front end are from a Volkswagen golf.
it's all copy right garbage, they make it look exact dodge can sue because they own the AMC name and what not. If you ever pay real close attention to tv shows they may have products that look like something (for example a pringles can) and it says something like "chips" on it so that they cannot be taken to court for using a name and not paying for it
Front end does look kind of like a VW golf. But it kind of looks to me like a Hornet front end.
Looks to me like an early 80's VW rabbit in front...the back looks pretty close minus the one piece tail light. it doesnt have those frog eye headlights the real pacers had.
One of the guys I work with brought in a recent (last Sunday) newspaper ad for me to look at. One of our local Chevy dealers has been absorbed into a mega dealer, and they ran an ad with some old photos to show a little history....

actually there are SEVERAL AMC'S in dukes, In the first series alone I see 4 not counting the police cars, or The Dixie Jeep. There were some Spirits and wagoneers as well as others (usually in the back ground) and even the credits gave a salute stating "Vehicles provided by Chrysler corp and American Motors Company" My 3 favorite shows involve 2 cars, 1 helicopter and allot of "OMG WTF DID THEY JUST DO!?" (Especially the poor general lee... :'( ) In fact I believe in one episode kit was put into an old protable stereo/TV combo and Michael knight Commendered an old Nash in one episode of knight rider (Need to double check that BUT I believe it was "Pre-AMC" but I think it counts.

Nissans and Hondas are good cars in theyer own respect. People seem to forgive those automakes for theyre questionable designs.....People never got over the pacer and gremlin and harbored an eternal grudge against AMC there after.
I'll agree with that! The 'Cube' is one of the ugliest cars (what the heck is it??) vans, crossovers I've ever seen, and people got the nerve to continue on about how ugly the Gremmie or Pacer is?

Pacers and Gremlins have always kinda been punch line cars ...In films they always seem to be driven by a laughable or nerdy character. They are cars that make ya smile. That questionable styling has made them somewhat of a comedic icon.

It was an okay movie, wasn't too happy about the "lemons" part of it... :-\
X2 on that!! They were never lemons. The bloody things still run. I've always hated that propaganda crap, from the 'Big Three'.
I'd drive any AMC over a Chev Monza (lemon), Pontiac fiero (another big-time issue car), a Cube (who the bloody heck makes those ugly things?), and lots other cars that were actually real lemons (from too many big issues) compared to a car that ran great, but some didn't like.
Id take my trusty old 258 cross country over any big three car produced back then. It all boiled down to who was pumping the most cash into the pockets of the media back then....Chrysler was well on its way to failure in the 80's and 90's too...people seem to overlook all of their Mitsubishi induced flops...In my opinion their acqiring of the Jeep brand was the only thing that saved them.

The jeep name is probably one of the most well known sought after auto brands on the planet....Chrysler had their eyes on Jeep way before the buy out. They were waiting like vultures for their opportunity to swoop in and snatch it up from AMC. I too think the buy out in 87' was in the works several years before it actually went public.
I was thinking to myself the other day, Jeep is kind of like the Hope Diamond, in that it is highly coveted, but it has brought every company that has acquired it failure...Willys, Kaiser, Amc...And just look at Chrysler these days...first Daimler-Benz..now Fiat...Even though the "Chrysler" nameplate still exists...The company itself has been basically bought out twice in the last decade.

It's hard to say on that one. It's pretty safe to assume Chrysler was waiting for the perfect time to get AMC. However, Georges Besse, the head of Renault at the time, wanted to keep AMC, when everyone wanted him to sell it off. And just when AMC/Jeep/Renault was starting to become profitable again, he was was assassinated. The people that took over then sold AMC. I truly believe that with his death, AMC died. If only AMC had been around longer into having the 4.0L on the market, they probably could have survived. Especially since they made a ton of Cherokees and Grand Cherokees.
However, as for Jeep, I believe that the new Jeeps don't live up to their name at all. I think the last true Jeeps were the Cherokee and TJ Wrangler.
^^ Which happens to be when the AMC I6 was put to rest.......The new wrangler rubicons are a rather capable machine in stock form, pretty amazing actually, but I can't get passed the fact that they have a minivan engine :P (I mean no offense to minvan owners, lol.)

And declared bankruptcy! I think you're onto something Shane.
This is almost starting to sound like a conspiracy...I didnt know about Georges Besse....that puts a whole new twist on this thing.
If a guy (or gal) had a whole lot of time, money, and ambition Ill bet you could dig up all kinds of dirt on the whole buy out.

I know this is about Eagles, but you gotta love the family truckster model in the picture. Able to drive itself when the driver falls asleep lol!!
The Family Truckster was actually up for sale a few years ago.
Yesterday I was browsing the website of an online insurance company.
Look at the Flash animation on the homepage...
http://www.zurich-connect.it/
;D ;D ;D ;D
WOW! A Zurich company featuring an American car?! That is way cool exposure for AMC! :amc:
Who would have guessed a pacer would find its way into an ad all the way over seas in Zurich. Folks over there recognize a good car when they see one.
Watching the movie MOVING VIOLATION starring Stephen McHattie and Kay Lenz co-starring Eddie Albert from 1976. Several Matador's 1971 and 1972. Hornet Sportabout, 1973?, a Gremlin and a 67 or so Rambler American. A policeman crashed a circa 1973 Oldsmobile equipped with an Airbag. 3 Matadors crunched up. One Matador rolled three times. One of them the top sheered off A, B & C pillars completely by a semi, one Matador flipped. Pretty cool car chase with music much like Smokey and the Bandit.
saw the movie "splice or spliced" i think it was called. the main character drove a gremlin! orange- red ish color. pretty scary horror flick too. LAZ
Yeah that movie was definitely a little twisted......
Don't know if this has been posted yet. Was looking through a Hot Rod magazine couple days ago (not current issue, don't have it in front of me to say when it was), had a SUHWEEET Hornet in it. Will post which one when I find it to see.
**UPDATE**

I saw this in Breaking Bad. Season 2, Episode 11 'Mandala'

I think the sticker on the back says 'Auto Trader Post Inc'. Maybe 'Miami, FL' below that. Gotta love the '4x4' chalked on the windshield :)
Seems like the AMC channel has a nac for giving AMC cars cameos
i saw that on breaking bad too! i think ym gf gets a little upset, anytime we're watching anything and i see an amc i hafta blurt it out...its like finding waldo. did antone sy anything about the green amx in the beginning of "play misty for me"? its in the parking lot when he pulls into the radio station
How the heck did I miss that one....Breaking bad is my all time #1 favorite show!! Ya know, if I had a bit higher resolution screen I could almost make out the dealer badge on the trunk lid.
on this weeks powerblock episode of muscle car the featured car was a Big Bad Blue 69 AMX with a 390 man was it gorgeous.
Eagle Wagon in the opening of Waterboy.
I was watching American Pickers last night with the miss, they were heading to a guys museum type collection. As soon as they exit the van, the camera pans over to where the guy was standing, there was a pacer, I pointed it out of course :-[ , then I noticed the un mistakable quarter window of a gremlin sitting behind the pacer, I pointed that out too, lol. Girlfriend then gives me a blank stare, out of nowhere came the comment "well duh, if there is one amc you can bet they have another not far away......" :rotfl:
Your wife does have a point...AMC's are like wild dogs...They are pack animals that dont do well all by themselves...they need to be among their own kind ;D
:rotfl: I just wish we could get every AMC we could get our hands that ran into one area, now THAT would be awesome, the logistics would be a PITA though.

Not really any yelling. Just that look that says either, "What the heck are you going to do with that?" OR "What the heck is wrong with you?" OR "Oh great more AMC stuff." At least it wasn't another AMC vehicle. Been tempted recently, but being broke keeps that from happening.
Lately ive been watching alot of 80's movies I have on tape and DVD analizing every frame to see if there is an eagle or other AMC that I hadnt noticed before, other than the occational jeep I havent found anything....as of tonight I can definitivly say Ferris Bueller's day off has a wagoneer in one scene and thats it....more reviews to come ;D

Two thumbs up for Shanebo!
Its too cold to work on my real life eagle so I figure why not watch hours of old movies looking for someone elses :rotfl:
We were watching Bones the other day, Booths Boss was driving a yellow Gremlin. The next show called the finder had a VW commercial, it also had a yellow Gremlin driving away while they were playing a Ted Nugent song.
Booko
in the opening of good luck chuck there is a blue Gremlin.
He does drive a gremlin I believe....Marge simpson also had one in her high school years.......also yesterday on Mecum auto auction they had a pretty nice Marlin (http://i1208.photobucket.com/albums/cc377/shanebo79/124319.jpg)

Booth also gets into an accident with her Gremlin. She was really, really mad. I hope no real AMC's were harmed during filming.

I was watching Weird Science on Netflix streaming the other day and the main kids grandparents were driving what I believe was a Concord. At first glance I thought it was an Eagle, but I rewound and I'm pretty sure it was just a Concord.
I need to sit down and catch up with some of my movies and shows, I am considering making a mockumentory of a day in the life of an AMC Eagle owner... I would love to use the "Cone of Confusion" thread as some of the better scenes. I would LOVE to see that. Call it "Rise of the Eagle" or something silly.

That would be a cool concept! Only Eagle/AMC owners would get it! :)
There was at one time a fair amount of these and other AMC's on the road...Im actually suprised theres not more of them that appear in 80's shows and movies. Just finished Ghost Busters and Fast Times at ridgemot High. A jeep or 2 in Ghost busters otherwise nothing....Fast Times had a Gremlin which had a descent role but it was the only AMC I could find.
i was going through an old book i have called "Why Did They Name It...?" (printed in 1964) and i found something quite interesting in it pertaining to Nash and Rambler and here is what it says:
The Rambler automobile is a mere sixty years old, but the name itself is one of the oldest in transportation. Thomas B. Jeffery, the English-born inventor of the Rambler automobile, was for many years a very successful manufacturer of bicycles which he sold under the Rambler name. Though he built his fortune in the bicycle and automobile business, he is best known for his invention and manufacturer of the clincher tire in the 1880's.
Jeffery sold his bicycle business, and at America's first automobile race in 1895 he saw the new mode of transportation for the first time. With the proceeds from the sale of his prosperous bicycle company, he bout a vacant plant in Kenosha, Wisconsin, and happily began experimenting with the new "horseless carriage." By the fall of 1900, Jeffery had developed two new "gasoline vehicles" a "runabout" (completely open) and a "stanhope" (with top). These first experimental cars were "radical" in design, with the engine mounted in the front and a steering wheel mechanism on the left. However, in a shrewd gauge of public opinion, when Jeffery introduced the car for sale two years later, the engine was rearmounted and the car steered by a tiller from the right-hand side.
These Rambler "carriages" (Jeffery had retained the trade name) were one-cylinder, 12-horsepower cars. The runabout sold for $750, and the stanhope for $825. They were an instant success. In 1902, when only 23,000 motor cars were registered in the United States, Jeffery turned out 1,500 vehicles to become the world's second mass-producer of automobiles. (A year after Oldsmobile and a year ahead of Ford.)
"Customer relations" might also be said to have been in its infancy as evidence by a priceless 1902 Rambler Instruction Manual which bluntly states:
The easiest way of avoiding trouble is to learn the carriage (automobile) thoroughly and understandingly; it is an incontrovertible fact that fully nine-tenths of the troubles experienced by the operator of motor cars are caused by the ignorance of the former, and not by the defects of the latter.
Early owners were also charged with heavy maintenance responsibilities for keeping their "carriages" in good operating condition: Every point of lubrication should be carefully gone over each morning before commencing the day's work."
Mysteries of the carburetor were explained in detail, and step-by-step instructions provided for adjusting the poppet valve if the one-cylinder engine should begin to smoke or misfire. No claims for gasoline economy were made. In fact, the manufacturer frankly admitted that "ordinarily a great waste occurs."
Nevertheless, most '02 Rambler owners were pleased with their vehicles, but one dissenting voice from Elmira, New York: "It seems to us that this machine is geared to run at too high a speed for our roads. In fact, we know this is the case, unless there is some way of making it run slower than we have yet to found out." (Top speed of the 12-horsepower engine was 25 m.p.h.)
Jeffery's success was due not only to sound engineering, but also to imaginative promotion. His advertising manager, Ned Jordan, covered the countryside with more than 5,000 road signs which indicated the distance to the nearest town or city, and in which direction it lay. this was a master stroke, since the only way to get from one town to another was by asking the nearest farmer for directions. Each sign was, of course, prominently inscribed with the word, Rambler.
Thomas B. Jeffery died in 1910, and the purchaser of his company was Charles W. Nash, who had resigned as president of General Motors to found a new company, and build a car under his own name. In 1918 the first Nash car, powered by a six-cylinder valve-in-head engine, made its bow.
In 1937, Nash merged with the Kelvinator Corporation under the leadership of George Mason who had been Chrysler's works manager at the age of 30. He promptly put Nash engineers to work on a new, economical, lightweight car which appeared in 1940 as the Nash "600" so named because it could go 600 miles on a 20-gallon tank of gasoline. In March, 1050, the Nash company introduced the first modern compact car, and the nostalgic name of Rambler was revived for the new line.
the convenience and thrift of the little car was its own best publicity. It appealed to the "common sense" of the American people. Big cars were being assailed as "gas-guzzling dinosaurs," and cartoonists, newspaper editorial writers, university economists, and even songwriters joined in ridiculing the useless fins and ostentation of the big cars.
One famous humorist toasted the Rambler as "the greatest invention since the ice cube."
Watching Car Crazy last night. they were in Puerto Rico. A guy had a 79 AMX - totally sweet.I saw it in the background several times, and was happy when they finally did show it up close and talk to the guy.Not sure if it was an old episode or not.

This is not really in the media, but I am student teaching this semester. We are working on multi-digit multiplication problems in my fifth grade math class. I wrote 10 story problems for a review station I am doing tomorrow. I foresee an AMC Education session in the very near future. I included the Eagle in one problem. The students have to calculate the mileage per tank of my saturn and my Eagle and let me know which vehicle can go further on a single tank of gas.
Answer: The Saturn has the Eagle beat by 68 miles per tank (using EPA estimates). Of course the Eagle has a larger tank than the eagle by 6 or 7 gallons. But I am liking I found a way to work the Eagle into a lesson.

Gotta teach the new generation somehow!
How about the Bond classic "The Man with the Golden Gun". Roger Moore drove a Hornet and there are other AMC vehicles in the movie. One of the biggest scenes is where the Hornet was sent spiraling into the water during a car chase.
Look up "AMC Hornet" on Google and look for the link to Wikipedia. It tells all about Hornet's place in the movie and where the actual car he drove is stored.
If you are ever curious about any vehicles seen on TV or in Movies there is a really cool site that is the IMDB of cars...coincidentally it is called IMCDB :)

There was an on demand movie I watched last night called Crunch. It was a class b 80's high school football flick. One of the main character's drove a concord....if you got Comcast cable and a few hours to kill check it out....its under the free movies section under comedies...it was cheesy but entertaining.
Been watching a lot of stuff on www.hulu.com (http://www.hulu.com) (FREE TV). Saw a Barret Jackson episode with a few shots of the Mark Donahue Javelin, Not for sale, just during the interviews. Season 2, Episode 7 - called Pony Car wars or Pony Cars?? Something like that. Then on Hunter, like what he does with 5h1trolet, it either explodes, catches fire, rolls over & over , or crashes into something if not a combination of the above. Anyway, Season 2, episode 2, he drives a Hornet - WITHOUT destroying it!!! As much as I like AMC, I just don't see Hornet as a policeman car. Rebel, yes. Matador, yes. Ambassador, yes. Hornet, no. Sorry but Hornet just doesn't cut it to me. Too small.

Which Bad Boys? as there's three movies called bad boys (one's from finland, so I doubt it's that one).
There's Bad Boys (1995) with Will Smith and Martin Lawrence (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0112442/)
Or there's Bad Boys (1983) With Sean Penn and Clancy Brown and Ally Sheedy (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0085210/)
When you guys post these, I usually try to look them up on You tube, or Hulu, or where ever I can find them.
ok i had no idea the other two movies even existed but the one i was talking about was the one with Will Smith and Martin Lawrence. sorry for the confusion.
ahhh, here I thought it would be the Sean Penn movie since it was made in the 80's.
I'm watching Breaking Bad on Netflix right now, and it's actually Season 2, Episode 11 right at the beginning where the brown Eagle wagon is shown. The guy walks up to the car and does a drug deal, then they flash to the rear of the car and there is no license plate. It's a pretty good looking wagon. Wonder if that one bounces :blob1: :rotfl:
in the 2008 movie Dog Gone the bad guys drive a pink and white Nash Metropolitan rental car that smokes really bad.

Ill bet that photo is of the August 1, 1985 flood in Cheyenne, which was the most destructive flood in Wyoming's history. Cheyenne received around 7" of rainfall within 3 hours which caused Dry Creek to swell to the size of a river submerging cars and property. It racked up a total of $65 million in damages (about $120 million in today's market) and resulted in 70 injuries and 12 deaths.

There's also one in there when they fill up at the gas station. Clark rips the license plate off his wagon after seeing the fuel fill on the AMC and his license plate ends up hitting the Eagle if I remember right.
The TV show "JUstified" has some kind of half-goofy policeman that drives a Gremlin.

ive been watching dukes of hazard lately, im through the area where the coffin nose matadors were used as patrol cars already, although a fury will magically morph into a coffin nose, and then morph back into the fury. the earlier body style matador seems to show up more often, and generally seem to get destroyed. there is a few cj7s and a grand wagoneer or two that appear as well after AMMC started supplying new vehicles
Those Fury's knew being a Matador was better.
heres a better shot of a matador trying to become a charger. the attachments work now! :blob1:

in the movie F/X there are about four Eagles and either a Pacer or a Gremlin (I only caught a small part of the front end) in the scene where the main character and his assistant are trying to get his special effects truck out of the police impound with out being seen.
I watched Splice last night and there was a Gremlin but my eyes were too blurry from the coughing, hacking and sneezing to guess what year! Probably a '78 though.

I found a green Gremlin which I got for my ex-wife's mother (She LOVED it) The 1 bbl carb was bad and it didn't charge (alt light controlled the regulator in the early ones) and it had no spark (points were fired). I adapted a 2 bbl from a Chev 283 to fit and that made it pretty reliable.

He bought one new in 1973, which was totaled less than two years after he bought in, then he bought another one in 2004. Very complimentary of the Gremlin. If anyone wants a copy of the article let me know and I will scan it and send it via email.
Just spotted an Eagle wagon in the episode of 'Defiance' showing now (7:00 CST, episode 32) on the SyFy channel. The episode opens with the lord of the creepy white-haired alien race and his wife making a mad rush into town in a Eagle, bearing the allegedly injured lord for medical care.
'Defiance' is a wierd sort of gritty science-fiction/Western hybrid series. I don't follow it, but watch an occasional episode. I just happened to tune in as the two-toned Eagle wagon was hauling *ss through the snow.

Tonight on 'Wheeler Dealers', the boys are tackling an AMC Pacer. VLCTY channel at 8:00 PM in my time zone (Central).
Being British, we can expect these guys to be a lot more respectful of the brand than some of the recent American shows (I'm looking at you, 'Lost in Transmission'). Also, Wheeler Dealers tends to have more useful 'hands-on' content than most car shows, some of which are nothing but continuous 'product placement' for their advertisers.

I posted this link before I watched the episode. Unfortunately, they don't tackle putting a diesel in the Eagle in this episode, they just go buy the Eagle and talk about their ten favorite builds. I looked through more recent episodes and did not find one where they actually do the diesel engine conversion. The guy that told me about the conversion showed me a picture of what was supposed to be the Eagle done on the show so maybe he'll be able to find the correct episode.

Enjoyed the one on the Gremlins. My '76 was my first new car - drove it today. My dad & his friend couldn't understand why AMC was stupid enough to name it the Gremlin. During WWII bad manufactured parts for the war effort were blamed on the Gremlins. Nice video.
I've been watching episodes of an old TV show, (on YouTube), called Mannix. So far I've seen a Gremlin, a Matador and an old Rambler wagon.

Mannix was a great show, I used to watch it as a kid.....wait, does that mean I'm old??
The show ran from '67 to '75 so all I've ever seen is reruns. I turned 14 in '70 when we got our first television and the last thing I wanted to do at that age was sit around watching a static filled old black and white TV. In fact, I still don't watch TV although I do like watching the old stuff on YouTube.
In some episodes all the policeman cars are Matadors.
In a new episode of diesel Brothers last night they started work on an AMC Eagle build to race it against a Subaru brat build.
While watching "The Saint", (Season 2 Episode 13), I noticed a guy driving a Rambler. The episode starts in Ontario, Canada. It's first seen just before the five minute mark. I think it was a 1957 Rambler but not 100% sure. "The Saint" was a British show starring Roger Moore before he became James Bond.
Interesting...

In this edition of Hagerty's Barn Finds, they spotlight a guy who has a Rambler and a lifted AMC Eagle he is working on. Jump forward to the 8:50 mark if you want to get right to the good stuff lol

I shouldn't be annoyed by this video, seeing as Eagle media references are so few and far between, but I am. It pisses me off to see someone find a motor full of water and just slap oil in it, chug away like nothing ever happened, then be like "this car is so unreliable!".
No, the car is fine, pal. You're just a moron who expects to put no work into a 40-year-old car that's been sitting forever and have it drive away into the sunset like it's a 2018 Corolla.
Yet these clowns get sponsors and free $5K brake lathes and become the automotive "authority" in today's idiot-driven media culture.
Sour grapes? Jealous much? Yeah, some. Mostly because I don't get free tools for being one.... :rotfl:
I dunno, I thought it was fine. All the unreliable parts he was talking about were the gimmicky 40 year old emissions system and vacuum controlled drivetrain parts, and im sure we can all agree that those are unreliable crap. That the engine ran at all, let alone so well, after sitting with that much water in it is something you wouldnt see in inferior motors, and a testament to amc engineering.
QuoteAll the unreliable parts he was talking about were the gimmicky 40 year old emissions system and vacuum controlled drivetrain parts, and I'm sure we can all agree that those are unreliable crap.
I can kinda understand nerfing the AIR system and the vapour system as both are rather tedious to repair when either the lines or the converter have rotted out but what bothers me is when he pulled the vacuum solenoid rack he also pulled the vacuum component for the idle control, so it will never idle right when the lights, AC, defoggers or really any of the high load items are running.
The sheer number of times I've had people complain "the engine runs like crap" and I find out its either because they have unrealistic expectations on what a 258 will do when stock or half the computer is still attached and it's trying in all its might to resolve impossible-to-correct sensor conditions which is making EVERYTHING not work right. Its either/or with the CeC.
Then again, are we expecting any level of (subjective) respect to the car when his first one was "Lift it and drive it until the transmission fries, then launch a rod into space"?
Just another cement head youtuber who can afford to trash cars for a paycheck. He isn't losing sleep over our frustrations, but then again we're better than the Corvette crowd and shouldn't be doing the same, right? ;)
Im not frustrated at all, that first eagle was pretty much only fit for parts scavenging or the scrapyard anyways. That it got once last chance to live and bring enjoyment is more than most eagles that shape ever get. The candle that burns twice as bright burns half as long and all that. And its not like they bought two prime condition eagles and heinously ruined them either, I saw the facebook marketplace ad for both of them before he bought them and they were both being practically given away, for good reason.
Actually, hes likely going to sell the second eagle in a bit, so in my eyes he added value to the eagle community by introducing one good running eagle to the market and generating a ton of interest, at the cost of one junk eagle. In a way, its probably more benefit than the eagle Im currently scrapping for axles.

I think this is my point exactly. If you're going to work on a car, or really anything mechanical, do it properly. If you find a motor full of water that you're not sure about, at least pull the friggin' oil pan. Obviously on an Eagle that's not the easiest venture with the motor in the car, but it's not like he knew that. I would feel the same way if it was the hypothetical 2018 Corolla I mentioned initially, not just an Eagle. The type of car here is irrelevant.
The knowledge that gets passed on to an untrained/uninformed audience here is: "mystery motor full of water, drain water, fill with oil, expect everything to be fine". So many people take YouTube to be "THE" definitive source for lots of things and the uninformed may not know to question our friend's work methods.
I have more of an issue with that than anything else.
The other thing I'd say is this: Having the Eagle up on the Youtube "big screen" is fine, but not all publicity is good publicity. Having our cars painted as completely disposable lumps of garbage doesn't do much to forward the hobby.
As always, it's just my opinion. Bear in mind I am a softie that felt bad back in the day watching/hearing "Cash for Clunkers" engines die with the sodium silicate solution.
Rant over, getting off soapbox...

I wonder if it is the same gremlin in the roadkill episode that was towing the prius? I hope so. I will be looking for it on my dvr I record all the new episodes of engine masters.
Yep, its the same gremlin, One of the film crew bought it and drove it for a few years, and a couple months ago they got it back on the show and made it into the hemi gremmy. unfortunately they basically had to chop up the gremlin and drop it on top of a purpose built chassis for everything to fit, but its still pretty cool.

Thanks for the link!
50,000+ views in less than 24 hours, that's more exposure than Eagles have had since Back to the Future came out lol. And the people are getting accurate info! All good stuff!
Yeah, RCR is wildly popular in the youtube car space, I knew this video was incoming, so I was dreading their usual "factual shortcomings", but the guy who did this one, Roman, is a huge amc fanboy and actually did his research pretty well.
Cool video about VAM and the sold in Mexico American Motors cars. Unless you're fluent in Spanish, you'll want to turn on closed captions and the translate feature. I also put the playback speed at 75% so I could keep up with the subtitles.

Not sure if this counts or not. Took the Bird to a car show Sat. & a radio station sat up almost right in front of me. They called out the Eagle on the air. Admittedly, they called it a Spacer the first time ;D, but at least they got the AMC part right! They DID get it right later!

Pacer, AMX, Javelin, Rambler....I'm not seeing anything out of the ordinary here. One's an oddball that has movie recognition, the others more often than not are driven around as muscle cars.

I like these factual videos that actually delve into the histories of the decisions that drove these cars into (and out of) production, rather than the "car p0rn" first-start and rag-on videos that are typically all we see of Eagles now. These latter types of videos negate the fact that there were plenty of people that actually cared about these cars when they were built, and the dumbed-down "oh, AMCs were just piles of other manufacturer's parts" drivel just gets old. Monday-morning quarterbacking gets real easy with 40+ years of hindsight!
