Colorado Mini Meet October 20 2013
« on: October 20, 2013, 07:25:07 PM »
We had a small get together today at the Sonic in Castle Rock.  Twoslowinwyo let us know that he was picking up a Matador in Colorado Springs that he'll be turning into a race car, so we were able to gather Eaglebeek, Shanebo, and myself for a brief Eagle convention with Twoslow.  It was great to see everybody again, and in what seems to be a common theme to the mini meets at this Sonic, it was cooooooold.  Eaglebeek's car didn't want to leave the meet, and locked him out.  Twoslow came to the rescue by just happening to have a coat hanger in the back of his truck.

Here are a couple pictures of the gang, along with Twoslow's newest project:

Here's Eaglebeek, Shanebo, and Twoslow:

Eaglebeek's wagon, Shanebo's SX/4, and my Kammback:

Shanebo is here, but hasn't officially announced his presence....

The magnetic key holder sounds like a better idea than the one I had for eaglebeek - zip-tying the coat hanger to his bumper.

" Eaglebeek's car didn't want to leave the meet, and locked him out."

That was one of my more embarrassing moments.  :-[ The lock on the driver's door locks itself when the door closes. It opens with the key but I had thrown both of the sets of keys I had with me on the floor after opening the hood. :censored:

All thanks be to twoslow for that awesome coat hanger. :occasion14: :eagle:

How does it lock itself?  Is it time to take the door panel off and check things out?

Yup...and this event drives the issue home. The door started doing this stunt a couple of weeks ago.  Whatever it is that snaps into the lock or unlock position has failed. The button simply obeys the law of gravity and slides down on its own.

I had a fsj that did this very thing several years ago. I priced a new door lock mechanism and it was $75.00. I said no thanks. This time I have no excuse as I have another latch on hand. :eagle:

How does one get in on these mini meets? I live about 15 minutes away from that Sonic and would have loved to see some fellow eaglers (and maybe sneak a few tips about making mine run better)!

Sorry, I didn't realize you lived so close.  This one got talked up in a hi-jacked thread kind of way in this thread:

http://forums.amceaglesden.com/index.php?topic=42715.0

Next time I'll make sure to contact you directly so you can make it.  Heck, we can arrange one of the mini meets anytime, so don't be hesitant to propose one.

We may be getting together in early December when AMC1320 is in town.  We'll keep you posted.  Thanks, and I'm looking forward to seeing your Eagle!

There are a couple other Eagles I've heard about that frequent the area but I have yet to see them. I was wondering if there were any folks in the forum who lived nearby and it's great to learn that there are. Thanks for including me. I'll be sure to check on this forum more often.

I think everyone else was too cold to wander out of their cars!  So, no, nobody came up and talked to us.  When I was filling up Pepe earlier in the morning, a couple talked to me about the car, hadn't ever seen a Kammback, etc.  I always like that people aren't afraid of approaching me and talking about my Eagle.

it was great seeing everyone again, and it was also great to meet shanebo.   eaglebeek, you can thank my son for the coathanger, he forgot to clean out the back of mom's truck ;D I guess that is a good thing this time. the drive back home was interesting to say the least. when I stopped for gas in wellington, the guy across from me came over and said "I haven't seen one of those in years!" he told me growing up his dad had a hornet and his mom had a rambler wagon. I think it made his day. a little further north I had a big rig passing me, next thing I hear is a air horn. I look over and he is waving an AMC hat at me with a big smile on his face. darn crazy truckers ;)  then when I was almost home I saw a state trooper coming up on my left and then quickly slowed down. I thought he saw that my trailer had no plate on it. (I ripped it off backing up the trailer earlier  in the day) he stayed back there for a minute pulled alongside and gave me a big thumbs up! well at least I didn't get pulled over :rotfl: after that just a little bit of snow on the summit but it was clear the rest of the way home. I am looking forward to getting together in December. sounds like a lot of fun! I will keep everyone posted on the progress of the build, but it will be a long process. have a great week! LAZ

I would have loved to have been there but i'm still not 100% sure Eagle Eyes would be able to make that long of a trip that and I had to work.

I'm never 100% sure my Eagle will make a trip...anything can happen to a 30-year-old car with 171k miles. ;D This trip wasn't all that far...22 miles....but it did make a 60-mile trip earlier this week.

The way I see it---even a new car can leave it's driver stranded. I'd just as soon take my chances with the Eagle that I know well as with a new car that requires an engineering education to repair. :eagle:

I understand maddog's thinking here and agree with him.  If I had a car that I didn't think could make a long trip, I probably wouldn't attempt it either.  Its no fun being stuck on the side of the road 50 miles from home

Maddog, if I put you on the spot I apologize. I didn't realize Eagle Eyes had known problems. And vangremlin is right...it's no fun to be stranded far away from home.

That being said, give us some idea of the things Eagle Eyes is doing to you. Someone on this forum has some ideas as to what you should do to make her more reliable. :eagle:

I am also sorry for putting you on the spot. Hopefully you can get eagleeyes back to the stage of driving long trips. If it is something that I don't think would make a long trip either, if I knew I had issues.

I know what's wrong with her I just haven't been able to get to it just yet as I have been busy with work and I need more than one day off to deal with it, which is why i'm trying to get Survivor's engine swap done so I can get to the things that Eagle Eyes needs done to her.
