1981 wagon transfer case
« on: June 06, 2013, 07:49:18 AM »
We bought our son a 1981 Eagle wagon. We have rebuilt the transmission and need to refill the transmission fluid. What fluid do you suggest and what is the capacity on my 900 series tranny?
Title says this is a 1982 Eagle limited wagon.

I use Mobil synthetic ATF in my Torqueflite and I use the same in the transfer case. The transfer case is fine but the transmission...God knows this fluid is the only thing keeping it from grenading itself this year.

The original spec was 10W30 motor oil, but New Process told them it was too thick and needed changing too often so ATF was better. I agree on using synthetic. I have a 727 and NP229 (from a Grand Wagoneer) in mine and it's awesome!
AMC/Jeep gauges are for amusement only. Any correlation between them and reality is purely coincidental!
