AMC of Houston, I found an older post on the forum where IowaEagle stated that lockup torque converters went until 1984. Just wanted to make sure that my 1985 was a lockup.

A new question:  Since my Eagle was a CA car one of the differences is it came from the factory with the serpentine belt. Can you tell me if there are any other peculiarities to it being a CA car? I am sure it had different emission standards but any difference in parts to other Eagles? Is the transmission a TF 998 or TF 904?

Thank you

You are correct on the Lockup thing.   I only saw lockup in the final Eagle TSM; so I assumed.......(and we all know what "assume" means!).   I checked my parts book, and it shows lockup only thru '84.   I learned something today - almost made it worth getting up!

Re the CA thing; I really don't know.  Some friends up in WI that used to work the AMC assembly lines have told me that the serp/non-serp was a luck-of-the-draw thing.   My '85 is a serp car, and it was sold new in TX.

Dunno on the trans ID or the CA differences.

Hello all,
Still here in Syria for about another 30 days.

Do we know why AMC stopped in 1984 with the lockup converters? Is a lockup or non-lockup "better"? If a lockup is better can I convert my current 1885 non-lockup to a lockup and keep the same transmission?

Thank you.
