the 258 in my eagle, after i run it till its all warmed up, when i go to restart it it doesnt get oil pressure right away and knocks rather badly for a few seconds. afterwards, it runs fine until i turn it off then it does it again. its getting worse. what could cause this?
-
i cant wiggle the harmonic balancer at all. so the main bearings appear to be ok. and id think bearings would knock all the time anyway. i dont know what to do. oil Pump?
-
HI It sounds like wrong or bad oil filter it is not holding the oil like it should ..it has to fill the oil filter every time you start the car ...that's not good for motor oil filter............Don
-
HI I forgot welcome to the nest....hope you enjoy it as much as we do..Don
-
thank you =) i had valvoline durablend in it when it started doing it. this morning i swapped it out for 15-40 rotella and put a new wix filter in it wix # 51522 still does it. but only when warm. cold it fires up fine. a side note is that i replaced the stock ford style ignition with an aftermarket hei setup 3 weeks ago

HI the bottom of the distributor turns the oil pump if you did not get it in right or it does not fit .It would not pump right ........Did you have a wix filter in there before this one ...I got a bad one and tuck it back .come to find out the hole case was bad that he had in the store O well I don't know what ells to say....Don
-
yeah i had a wix one in before too =S think ill try and change to a fram for a bit, see if it helps
-
What did you replace the distributor with? It might be slightly too short, or not fitting in properly and like teneagle said, not turning the oil pump.
-
Fram is bad. Try bosch. If anything. Seriously...I cut open old filters fram is bad.
Back on topic I'm leaning towards oil pump.
-
i got the distributor from crtperformance.com i pulled it and measured out the dimensions and the teeth are the same as the old distributor so im figuring its the oil pump. i bought one today but i dont have any way to lift the engine from the car. is there any way to get the oil pan off without pullin the motor?
-
I will say no. Others might say yes. Depends on your ability.
-
Have checked oil pressure with a direct reading pressure gauge?
I have dropped the pan on an eagle before. You have to support the engine from above then drop the front diff and crossmember down to get enough room to remove the pan. Once the pans out you can change the rear main seal also install a high volume pump. check rod bearings and main bearings you may be able to get .001 oversized bearings if no damage to crank and clearance measurements check good.

A belated welcome to the Nest. Have you figured out the OP issue?
-
you can get the pan off with the engine still in the car, but I ran into problems getting the pan back in the car with the engine still in there and ended up having to pull the engine to get the pan on
-
yeah i had a wix one in before too =S think ill try and change to a fram for a bit, see if it helps
Please do NOT use a Fram filter!!! They are the WORST filter on the planet!

I'm going to say that the bearings are starting to get loose and it takes longer for the oil to build enough pressure to tighten things up when its warm.
