Lets See those CB Radios!
« on: February 26, 2014, 01:43:30 AM »
I'm interested in installing a CB Radio in my SX/4 and was curious what if any other people are running in their Eagles? I know some have the stock setup...and I'm envious, but I'd love to see any and all CB setups. Radios, Antennas, etc. Pics! Lots of Pics!

Right on. I'm not sure if this was the best location for this thread, but I figured the CBs will be located in the interior. But I guess the antennas are mounted outside. Oh well. Look forward to seeing what some other Eagle guys have done. I have a plan for the SX/4 and I hope it works.

Make your car into a police cruiser clone and then any antenna will fit in.

Ive been looking at the small cobra ones at the truck stop down the road

Im pretty sure it could get it to fit right where the ash tray is according to my measurements

Not sure about the antenna, I would like a tallish bumper mount one I think, but would like to see some pics as well. Also Im not too sure about drilling homes in my bumper.....at least it wont make it rust!

Here's a pic of one of the Midland models mounted in the ashtray. I know there are at least two guys on the forum running this setup.

I know Strikeeagle runs some sort of setup. I see at least two antennas on the back of his rig.

And I found these online. This was a local car that was for sale not long ago. Looks like he keeps his huge whip bend down when he's running around town. I'd be worried...whether down or up...that it would flap around and bang into the side of the car and scratch it up..

I'd like to know more about this setup.

Interesting gauge set up.   Please tell us more, some look the same.

My wagon used to have a CB in it, but all that was left when I drug it outta the field was the antenna. It was mounted to the trim on the rear glass.

Interesting gauge set up.   Please tell us more, some look the same.

This wasn't a real gauge installation.  One of the members was contemplating moving the floor gauges to the open cubbie above the radio, then found out they aren't individual gauges and it wouldn't be an easy move. So what you see is a photo-shop mockup.   I'm not sure if he ever installed aftermarket gauges up top or not.

I've got a K40 mounted in a slide mount which is fastened under the package tray on the passenger side. It has never given me any problems.

Older thread here, I know, but where is everyone mounting their CB antennas? Or is everyone using Magnetic mount ones? Pictures would be great if you've got something hard mounted.

CB Mounting isn't my hard part, I'm going to either get the Midland CB-1 or a Cobra 75 WX ST and will be mounting it in the empty spot the AC vents aren't in above the radio. Just cant figure out a good way to mount an antenna that doesn't detract from the cars appearance or force me to drill any holes.

You're best bet is probably the magnet mount antenna. They also have some window mount ones. Other than that you'd probably have to drill somewhere.

Trying to stay away from magnetic mount (thats my fallback though it I don't find what Im looking for) and Im definitely not going to drill any holes. Have been researching the window mount antennas and the tend to have very limited range (mile or two) as per most reviews and info I've received from CB shops and manufacturers. Last night I had an ideal, just trying to find the parts to make it work.

I don't really want to do a magnet mount either, but from what I've read they work well. You want the coil to be above the roof of the car so it's a good setup.

I want to run a Whip on my back bumper on Kammy. Use the mounting holes for the missing caps to mount it and feed COAX into the car.

But that won't happen until I get lots of other things done..

Is it mounted to something where the bumper end cap should be? Or actually to the bumper?

I have one antenna on my car. It is mounted typically on the passenger side fender & serves three purposes. Factory Installed radio, my separate k-40 CB  & believe it or not I'm still using the old "Chapman" burglar alarm which gives a signal to my Auto Page.

I am a big time radio guy.  I have all sorts of radio setups in all my vehicles.  On my 88 wagon,  I have a base loaded coil antenna with a trunk lip mount fastened to the center of my rear hatch.  uses 2 little allen head screws to tighten it down and the coax is run under all the trim moldings up to the front.  I will get some pics up soon so you can see what I'm talking about.  I am also a Ham operator and do communications for my local Office of Emergency Management.   73!

I don't know how I never saw this thread. I am also VERY interested in mounting a CB in my rig. I'd used them when I was younger. I had always used the magnet mounts with pretty good success, but I really like the whip design on Caspers. Is the package tray the best place? I have an AC car with the gauge package....so I'm pretty limited on mounting locations...is the package tray the consensus?
