Front Door locks
« on: July 10, 2011, 05:50:29 PM »
Hey guys:

Does anyone know about the front door locks on the '88 wagon? My passenger side door won't close.  When you try to close, it just bounces open. The only way to shut it is by pushing down on the pin and slamming the door shut. Plus, the key won't work, either. It acts like it's binding. And, the rubber bushing on the striker has worn off. I plan to replace it with the copper pipe one I made some time ago. By pulling up on the pin is the only way it will open. Not by the key.

Can a local garage service it or what?

The door's all apart and I need help.

Is this pin you're talking about pulling and pushing on the lock/unlock knob at the inside back of the door?  I don't know too much about it but from what you're decribing it sounds like a problem with the latch mechanism.

Does the key open the other door?  Reason I'm asking is someone could have changed the ignition cylinder and the key doesn't match the door anymore.

Other issue with not closing is the latch mechanism is sticking.  Try some brake cleaner in the latch to disolve any gunk buildup then some lubricant.  I've got an 81 concord that the latch will not release so the don't won't open.  Somoene pulled on the door handle hard enough to break it not realizing the latch is stuck.
