Beautiful!! What's her name? ;D
-
her name is eagle eyes. now how did you she has a name?
-
Beautiful????
Do the angles of the mirrors increase MPG?
-

An Eagle with that much character has to have a name! ;)
-
Good old 1980 Eagle. What colors are you going to go with?
-
no infact all i can see with the passenger side is sky. i'm currently looking for new ones that actually work and don't fall off. black with flames with an eagle rising from the flames.

That will be nice to see when its done.
-
unfortunately that is one of the last things on my list to do to her at the moment. she is in really bad shape right now and is my only mode of transportation at the moment.
-
i will try to get some pics of the interior on my next day off, weather permitting.
-
had a good snowfall afew days ago and took some pics.

those are greese stains on the seats.
-
That interior looks exactly like mine. Good luck with it. It looks to be pretty solid. I can understand having to drive a car as you fix it up. Hope what it needs isn't anything too major.
-
mostly suspension problems at the moment. getting them fixed as fast as i can. but leafsprings are the biggest problem seeing as i only get one day off a week to do any work on her.
-
Your Eagle looks a little rough but it also looks tough! 8)
-
she is rough and she is tough.
-
Yeah one day off isn't really enough to be able to do leaf springs. Maybe if you had help. Any other 'Nest members in your area?
-
Have you tried taking the hand cleaner GOOP and getting the grease off of the seats?
Our Impala is a light color inside a little darker than off white.
Well after I got it back from having it serviced just by accident I noticed a big gob of grease on the head liner above the drivers door.
I don't know how they managed to get it there, but I didn't see it before I got home. I had already used GOOP to get some grease
out of my off white carpets in the dinning area ( No comment on how it got off of the EAGLE and onto the carpet)
I Just took and put the Goop right on the grease spot and rubbed it in real good. Then I took a clean DRY paper towel and rubbed the spot until I couldn't see anymore grease. Then I took a DAMP wash cloth and rubbed the spot where the grease had been and around it to get the goop off and you can't even tell there has ever been any grease on it. It didn't leave any kind of stain at all. I sure was glad to find out that GOOP works good on stuff other than hands. I noticed it has on the back of the container that it can be used for laundry problems too so I do it.
-
i thought about doing that already but the seats are in worst shape than they look. the back seat has a tear in it, as well cigarette burns. i'm going to redo them in black with flames and the EAGLE NEST logo at the top of them. yes i'm obsessed with black with flames.
-
replaced both headlight surrounds and driver side tailight so here are pics of the originals and the new.

new ones look much better. Save those old ones if they are any good, they can be painted black for folks who need Sport surrounds
-
the old ones were waaayyyyy to messed up for anyone to use so i chucked em i do still have the busted tail light with the crome surround if any body wants that.
-
ok guys finally got around to getting my new grill installed here are a before and after pic.now the before pic it doesn't look that bad but you should have seen it before i fixed to look as good as that, sorry about the second one my led light took just enough juice to keep killing the camera.

so what do you guys think?
-
Looks good to me.
-
Nice work, it's getting better all of the time!
-
now who can guess what it came off of.
-
I have seen that grille before. Not sure at the moment where.
-
ok iowa the grill is off of a car just like you own, just two years newer. now do you know what i got it off of.
-
Yup. I did not realize they changed the grilles on them. Even the '81 looks a bit different too.
-
yeah the concords had slightly different grills than the 1980 eagles did, but look enough like that most won't notice the difference unless they know their eagles. and i was able to put my eagle emblem on on it from my old grill without having to modify it.
-
LOL, we have the same Concord grille on the SX4 ;D.
-
well i got real lucky at the parts store the other day when i went to get a new oil filter for eagle eyes. i got a K/N high performance filter for $2.09 and that was with tax included.
-

did you buy as many as you could get?
-
That is an excellent price! Do they have many left?
-
one that i know of and it's in denver but i don't know which advance auto parts store it's at. part number HP2003.
-
maddog,
I love it... I'm in the same boat as you. I am fixing and driving. I have been buying parts as money permits. FYI. I just did my rear springs and shocks this past weekend. It was no easy task. I soaked all the bolts three days prior with fresh squirts of pen oil each day. It still was a bear to get off the bolts. I had to cut the u bolts with a cutter that fit on the end of an electric drill. I forgot to ease the tension on the bolts before hand and nearly took myself out with a .22 caliber sized chunk of bolt, as it exploded. It took two days to complete the job. I got the leafs from McVeigh's Truck Springs. His info is on the forum. Great price and great springs. I took measurements before and after and ended up with 2 1/4" lift from the new springs and shocks.
I can't wait to see your bird when complete.
-
yeah well i had a blow out and found some rust inside of my rockers so now i need to replace those. it looks like it is just surfice rust though as i haven't found any actual rot.
-
well eagle eyes decided to show me who was boss today by blowing a hole in one of the transmission cooler lines on the way to the gas station. i didn't find out till i came out of the station after paying for gas and found a growing puddle under her and a trail behind her. i managed to get her home and get it fixed and it doesn't seem like any damage has been done to the transmission though. here are a couple pics of the damaged section of hose.

-
My Eagle has the same grill.Paint those rims up.it'll be cheap and you'd be surprised how cool it will look.
-
Man I love an Eagle with character! I don"t think they come with more than yours! Good Luck!
-
if you think thats bad. check out these pics from halloween last year.

-
Dude thats :censored: awesome!! Looks like you made some pedestrians day...LOL
-
yeah granny never saw me coming but i'm bettin' she heard me. :rotfl:
-
So thats how how your grill got cracked!! LOL
-
yeah i was daydreaming i was in deathrace 2000 and older people were worth more points. jk. i bought one of those big bottles of fake blood for halloween and covered her with it.
-
Im glad to see no old ladies or Eagles were harmed in the production of this post.
-
nope just some tires. ;D
-
after i finished replacing the return fuel line on Eagle Eyes which was the original by the way and had fired her up to make sure there were no leaks, i started to put the air cleaner back on and every time i moved the air cleaner the idle would change so i took the air cleaner back off and found out that the four screws that hold the carb to the manifold were super loose.
-
That might be whats making bluebird idle wierd!....thanks for the idea Maddog!....I would not have thought about checking that out.
-
the sad part is the fact that it was like that when we met up at the junkyard a few weeks ago i just never put two and two together.
-
Sounds like time for a new gasket and a touch of blue thread lock on those studs and nuts
-
the sad part is the fact that she runs as well as she does with it like that.
-
:)That's because it's made in America!
-
Its also cuz its an AMC....AMC cut class that day when they taught the other big 3 auto makers they shouldnt run when the carb is nearly detatched...LOL 8)
-
that explains a lot. :rotfl: and to think it still has the original carter on it to. i guess can say i have BAD :censored: AMC Eagle.
-
If it has a :amc: :eagle: symbol on it certainly qualifies as bad :censored:!! >:D
-
i think your right. although anything with :amc: on it qualifies as bad :censored:.
-
i think your right. although anything with :amc: on it qualifies as bad :censored:.
you got that right ..
Don

I see bleachers in the background....Are you tearing up the high school football field again Maddog? :rotfl:
-
nope just a baseball field dirt parking lot. >:D
-
well my folks got me a presant for Eagle Eyes but it is to cold and wet outside right now for my liking so i'm going to wait till it gets a little warmer to put them on her.
-
put some new driving lights on to day that i got from my mom and dad for Christmas to replace the busted up fog lights i had on her here is a before pic

Hey, those look good dude!! Those look like they got some serious bulbs in them, ill bet those bad boys throw some light.
-
yeah they are very bright i actually blinded myself with them in broad daylight.
-
She's not much to look at, but it sounds like she's loyal! :)
-
yeah she needs a paint job and some sheet metal work very badly but she don't run to bad so i'm happy.
-
that's all that counts is your happy........Don
-
I hope you don't think I was dissing Eagle Eyes! I love all Eagles! I love the 80s roof racks with the little spoiler on the back.
-
no i didn't think that dude and i wasn't kidding about her needing some serious sheet metal work because one of these days i may lose my battery when i hit a bump as the metal under it is in bad shape. :o
-
That would not be good! Just get some duct tape...you'll be good to go! :)
-
duck tape the redneck fixit all i love it.
-
You ever watch the Red Green Show! They did some awesome stuff with duct tape on there!
-
yeah i've heard of it but i've never seen it.
-
You ever watch the Red Green Show! They did some awesome stuff with duct tape on there!
I was at Possum Lodge twice watching the show being taped.
That is so awesome! I got my dad a DVD set one Christmas. We used to watch that show all the time!
-
I was at Possum Lodge twice watching the show being taped.
My husband would be soooo envious of you - he's a huge Red Green fan.
-
well i got off work early today so i had a chance to get some pics of the damage from the when the driveshaft came lose yesterday and was also able to get a video of her running.
the first one here is of the floor boards and the lines the the driveshaft got caught in
(http://i44.servimg.com/u/f44/14/94/93/40/pict0241.jpg) (http://www.servimg.com/image_preview.php?i=259&u=14949340)
the second is the best i could get of the damage to the glasspack
(http://i44.servimg.com/u/f44/14/94/93/40/pict0242.jpg) (http://www.servimg.com/image_preview.php?i=260&u=14949340)
and the third is of the driveshaft tunnel
(http://i44.servimg.com/u/f44/14/94/93/40/pict0243.jpg) (http://www.servimg.com/image_preview.php?i=261&u=14949340)
and here is the link to the video
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=840hFTt9qyw
-
well it looks like when the drive shaft came loose it did more damage than i thought as today as i was on my way to work something in the rear axle went. here is what it is doing i put it in gear and the driveshaft turns but the wheels do not so i'm assuming the gears are gone now i'm still trying to figure out what size gears i have. i have looked at the front diff for a tag but can't find one. the rear diff has an arrow pointing at a 3 and then a ring of bumps with an arrow in the middle that arrow going clockwise is pointing almost halfway between the fifth and sixth bumps. now i'm thinking that means i have 3.54 gears or am i completely off.
-
Dude, sorry to hear that...sounds like a ring gear! Im not a drive train expert but If I recall a 3.08:1 was standard but a 3.54:1 was optional on trailer package equipped and high altitude cars. I found that out when I swapped the wrong rear end into one of my Eagles years back.
-
yeah i found out yesterday that it was the shaft and hub so i have to go to the junk yard to get another one. thank god there are a bunch of eagles at the one yard.
-
haven't posted on here in a while. other than replacing the axle shaft and hub as well as changing the fluid in the rear diff back in May i haven't done much to Eagle Eyes. i do plan on doing a couple of things in the next week or so on both Eagles, weather and all else permitting.
-
i have not posted in this thread in a while a decided i should probably revive it. that being said yesterday i replaced the master cylinder and front brake lines, and then today i took her offroading, here are a few pics.
(http://i82.servimg.com/u/f82/14/94/93/40/pict0318.jpg) (http://www.servimg.com/image_preview.php?i=290&u=14949340)

-
as I try to do every year I decorated Eagle Eyes for Halloween and here are a couple of pictures.

Nice! Hope you drove it all around town like that! :) Classic!
-
Nice! Hope you drove it all around town like that! :) Classic!
oh I did I had to work so a lot of people ended up seeing it and it got some very interesting responses.
-
Kind of looks like my SX/4 after I hit those two deer, minus the resulting body damage.
-
What size tires do you have on her?
-
I have 215/75/15's on the stock 15x6 in. steelies.
-
well I found out that I am going to have to rebuild Eagle Eyes motor sometime in the next few months as she has started to blow white smoke out the exhaust while under throttle (yay me), other than that she still runs really well.
-
well I scored a skid plate today for Eagle Eyes and while I was trying to find some u-bolts that would work to hold it on I found out that one of my swaybar bushings was M.I.A. so I decided that rather than wait for some new ones to be shipped to me I would just buy one of the poly-urethane sets that the parts store had sitting on the shelf, they fit quite well but I don't know how they will perform till tomorrow. here is what the bushing and it's housing
(http://i39.servimg.com/u/f39/14/94/93/40/pict0313.jpg) (http://servimg.com/image_preview.php?i=348&u=14949340)
here is the skid plate after a good cleaning
(http://i39.servimg.com/u/f39/14/94/93/40/pict0314.jpg) (http://servimg.com/image_preview.php?i=349&u=14949340)

and here is the pile of gunk that I cleaned off it.
(http://i39.servimg.com/u/f39/14/94/93/40/pict0316.jpg) (http://servimg.com/image_preview.php?i=350&u=14949340)
-
I usually scrape them onto an old tarp. Keeps the greasy guck off the driveway!
-
that gunk was almost all dirt with very little grease in it.
-
Well THAT is surprising!
-
yeah especially considering the car I pulled it from was a rusty greasy mess.
-
it's been awhile since I posted in this post. during my absence from the forum I have replaced the entire rear axle in eagle eyes as well as the steering box and rear hatch seal as well as rebuilding the steering column as well as rebuilding the steering column. I have also replaced my steering wheel with a Jeep sport wheel, as well as the transmission mount.
-
Glad to see you are still around and have your Eagle(s)?
-
yeah I'm still around but I only have Eagle Eyes now. The rest of my cars were sold by my family without my permission and they probably would have sold Eagle Eyes too if they hadn't needed a way to get around.
-
Well dang! I know you were having some issues with space and neighbors or something. Bummer they other car got sold off. Glad you still got the one though!

hey guys it's been a little while since I last posted and I figured I'd give you a little bit of an update on what's been going on with Eagleeyes. Since my last update I have installed two 6 inch LED light bars on the front bumper, as well as four brand new mud flaps that I painted the word Eagle on in white lettering that is in Eagle script (don't ask me how long that took to accomplish). I have also replaced both hatch hinges and have also installed a f150 tac where my none working clock was. I also had to replace both front brake calipers after breaking off both bleeder screws. ::) I then replaced the entire driverside front hub because when the machine shop I took the old one to went to press the new cones for the bearings in they just kind of dropped in with no pressure applied to them. ???

hey guys just a little bit of an update. Yesterday on my way to work I had a minor accident involving an 18 wheeler. For the most part Eagle Eyes is alright, thankfully the only real damage is to the lip on the left front rim and the corresponding strut rod bracket.
-
Glad to hear you (and your Eagle) are okay!
-
yeah I won't lie it was a little on the scary side seeing that truck come over into my lane like that.
-
well the odometer in Eagle Eyes has finally turned over so I now have an Eagle that says it has less than a hundred miles on it.

I'd get that thing up on eBay as quickly as you can, label it a "barn find," you'll probably make lots of money :rotfl:

yeah I would have a very hard time getting anyone to believe my car has less than one hundred miles on it with the shape it's in. Now if it looked like one of yours I might be able pull it off.

well today I installed a third brake light on Eagle Eyes from a 98 or so suburban I got it to work but I need to make a couple of brackets to drop it down far enough to clear the hatch.
-
well I finally got some pictures of the third brake light. The brackets in the pictures are only temporary until I can make some better ones.

thanks vangrimlin I was happy it turned out as well as it did. Eventually I hope to move it to the hatch on a set of pivoting brackets I just haven't figured out all the design details for them yet.
