Title: Building the 2.5 Iron Duke
Post by: RookieSX/4 on November 12, 2015, 01:13:14 PM
My apologies if this has already been covered somewhere else but has anyone out there beefed up an Iron Duke? Been tossing the idea around in me head lately rather than swapping engines for more power...try and see what i could get out of this little 4 banger...

It's been done, they used those engines in some racing applications years ago, there is also a marine version. So there are some speed parts around.

Not sure how many hp you can get out of it, but anything more would be a big help!

If you want to keep it a 4 cyl. I'd be tempted to install a fuel injected Jeep 2.5L.

Its not about keeping it a 4 cyl  its about sticking with the factory engine

Remember that there are 2 types of the 4 cylinder motors in the Eagles. 1 is GM made, other is AMC. I posted the sender thing on the Facebook page. The actual GM 4 banger could be beefed up a bit.

Now the AMC was plopped into vehicles for years. It might be an idea to find one that was in a 1996+ Dodge Dakota with a manual transmission. MPFI is yummy. And there are plenty of performance mods out there.

Did the AMC 4 cyl ever make it into the Eagles? It was the understanding that AMC dropped the 4 cylinder as an Eagle option before they brought out their own.

GM 4 bangers were in the early Eagles, the AMC made them in after 82 or 83 I think.

Ok so I guess the next topic would be what transmission/T-case to hang off the back of a beefed up Iron Duke?
