Seats: Leather or Pleather? Lexol?
« on: December 27, 2011, 03:41:39 PM »
I have a set of these seats to put in after the new carpet.  They are pretty dirty and I'd like to clean and condition them, if possible.  Are these leather or pleather?  Can I use Lexol cleaner and conditioner on them with no problems?  Also, does anyone know how to separate the two sections of track?  I already have the tracks removed from each seat frame, but I want to disassemble the two halves that slide to re-lubricate.  Thanks!

The seats with the cloth inserts like yours are vinyl. The only real leather seats are the ones in the "limited" trim level cars that are solid.

I would just use armor all protectant. Just beware that it'll be slippery for a while.

Go ahead and use the Lexol. First the cleaner and then use the conditioner.Over the years I have tried about every product out there and in my opinion Lexol is far and away the best. The cleaner cleans well without being to harsh and has a small amount of conditioner in it and the conditioner itself will leave all your vinyl soft with a slight satin sheen not all slick shinny and sticky like most.

AMC/Jeep gauges are for amusement only. Any correlation between them and reality is purely coincidental!

I got those exact same seats in my SX4....I used Spot Shot and a rag to clean the cloth. Believe it or not I found a thread on the "Corvair Center" websight about cleaning vinyl seats, heres a link http://corvaircenter.com/phorum/read.php?1,417878,419492

I had already bought Lexol before posting this, so I returned it.  I noticed they had Blue Magic cleaner/conditioner for vinyl.  It worked well.  At least there is no more dirt on the seat and it's a satin-like black now.  I'd like to try the Goop method they talk about in the corvair article.

IT makes sence...That stuff will clean the greasiest hands and leave them soft, unlike the gasoline method  8)....I tried it on a the back side of the drivers seat that is solid pleather...Mine didnt look bad but it sure made the rag brown so I guess they were dirtier than I though...and it did leave them soft.
