I always thought that would be a good idea, but it would require some engineering to stiffen the unibody.  Removing the rear upper cage would compromise the structural integrity.

Now that would have been cool!  And I bet it would have sold.  But would have competed directly with the XJ version.

XJ version?  Do you mean the Comanche (MJ)?  I have two MJ's and we can't really put them in the same realm as an Eagle.  It's a totally different animal.

If I ever get another wagon and a sawzall... ::) this may become reality ;D.I think with some strong steel , fabrication work  its do-able.I don't think of the power-adder as a bumper detachment tool, its more like a rear axle breaker.I wonder if using  the Commanche P/U bed and an Eagle would work?,again more fabbing .
I'm envisioning a bed with  structure like a Jeep's but with Rhino lining and a drain or 2

 philo err Don,
I don't think the wagon would need a lot of reinforcement, use a single piece of 14ga steel with beads rolled in it, for bed floor  and sides, leave the rear doors intact, just welded shut and window frame cut off, below the rear window, make a 1" thick box with 1" square tubing and 14ga, again with beads rolled in it, weld to rear of door post, make the back window panel from 16ga with whatever kind of rear window, a sliding rear window from '80's ford Ranger comes to mind.

Can't see the unibody reinforcement would be a whole lot different than a Sundancer.

Yes, use the Sundancer as a guide.  Though it also used the targa bar as further reinforcement, but with the cab remaining intact that may not be needed.

I need about a half dozen to do mods on, how about a crew cab from a wagon, just move hatch up to back of rear seat, small filler panel below. Yes, PR, us old retards do have a lot of time on our hands.

Nice, I like the spoiler effect.  Had a similar idea:

The raised hood intake kind of balances it though.  Nice touch!
Nice C-stripe too.  Is it supposed to be reminiscent of Javelins, or just coincidence?

This is a very interesting concept...
I have an 82 6 cyl. Wagon.

I am an experienced fabricator (composite materials) and a shipwright...and I can make good welds on common standard iron works...but I have no experience with automotive sheet metal work...how difficult is something like this? would it require an experienced body man?...I am highly experienced with both electric and pneumatic reciprocating saws, grinders and grinding/sanding and finishing...I think I could tackle something like this with some help...how many here have actually done this exact type of modification and would be willing to offer advice and instruction with the aid of this forum?

What type of welding equipment is required for this type of project?...All I have is a 'buzz box' stick welder

thanks in advance...

If you can mig sheetmetal and use a cut off wheel you could probably do this.

That woudn't be too hard to make some box tube frame rails. You could even lift the Eagle a couple of inches to regain ground clearence.

Egg to you eagleone for catching that. That should have been to first thing I said.

I know this thread has focused mainly on modifying a wagon, but for those of us that have a Kammback or SX/4, these photos of a couple of modified Gremlins might give you some ideas!  These are real, not photoshopped.

The first one looks like a Chevy S-10 bed was used as a donor, but the second one looks done the right way

Very interesting.  I have never seen those before.

I have to say the pic of the red gremmie is wicked.  I prefer that style over the work of the blue one.  It looks sleeker.   As for this thread, this pic of the Photoshop'd 4 door is very well done.

That looks soo freaking awesome, yeah, I would love to have one as well.

I'm not a great fan of conversions, but... I must admit I really like this one.

I like both of the Gremlins.  I like small pickup trucks, and I find conversions interesting.  There was a guy that used to deliver new phone books to our neighborhood when I was in high school who had a 4th Generation Dodge Colt that was converted to a pickup.  The shop he bought it from built small pickups out of Colts and Honda civics.  I am not sure I would have a use for such a small pickup, but I think it worked perfectly for his delivery job.

if i could find a wagon, id be all for doing such a conversion. im thinking a roll bar looking support like the suby baja's have. i have looked at them alot. i think that could be possible for the structure. plus some extra bracing under. a set of air shocks with an on board compressor to adjust, and youd be good to haul the 4.0's and 4.2's from the scrap yard to build your 4.6's for your other eagle projects right? (along with all the other parts you got from any other eagle found in the scrap yard)

Anyone have a picture of the bracing that was used on the undercarriage of the Sundancers?  I think a crossbar like the sundancers have would be useful in making a pickup out of an Eagle.

Here we go with opinions again.  I think that third picture is really cool, but personally I
wouldn't want to see a good Eagle cut up and modified.
If it couldn't be saved as is, yes, go for it.
Once again, though, if it is yours you can do what you want with it, and I'll
support you.
I will stop short of saying I'll defend it to the death. :o
