Title: Newby and pre purchase advice
Post by: Hoodywah on March 31, 2021, 06:28:14 PM
Athens GA represent! Go Dawgs!

I have on the line a 1981 Wagon with the limited leather interior in really really nice shape. The exterior could use a little love but isn’t in bad shape already.

Do any of y’all have any pre purchase questions I should ask the seller that are specific to my year and make? Or any eagle general specific questions I should ask? It’s $5k flat and I feel like it’s a great deal for the sweetness of the interior as I can get that exterior spiffed up in no time if I can fine a good car lot or parts car.

Thanks in advance!!

#1 problem is rust, look under for rust. Rockers, areas around the front of the leaf springs, under the front seats. That area is part of 5he unibody frame and can hold water, plus if salt ever got in there. Check for the carb to trans linkage make sure that is actually there. There is a piece of it by the carb that rust out too.mine fell off last year.

Check the front sub-frame rails, too! I didn't on one & THIS is what I got!

Ok cool. Hoping to report back in the next couple of weeks that I brought it home.

When I looked at the one I bought. Before I looked at the rest of the car, (none of it mattered) I slid under it and checked the areas pictured and around the springs out back.

I'm looking at an 81 SX/4. I'll have to check out the underside before I Finalize the purchase. Barn find ran when parked in 2002 interior is very clean and original. I also wouldn't mind knowing any other "Must Checks" as well.
