intake question
« on: August 04, 2011, 06:06:52 PM »
What are all the sensors on the intake for an 87. the two in the water ports more precisely. one at th front and one at the back. I assume one is the temp sending unit for the temp gauge and one is the sending unit for an temp idiot light? Im asking because i am installing an after market gauge pack.

The one at the front is for the computer, and closes at a certain temperature. The one at the back is for the intake manifold heater, which grounds through the intake/block when the engine is cold. The temp gauge sending unit is on the back of the cylinder head on the drivers side. And there is no temperature idiot light.

im pretty much eliminating the computer... so i might use the front one. and most likely wont hook up theintake heater either. i did  pull the temp sensor then thinking it was the oil pressure then water came out.

If you're eliminating the comp and need a carb, let me know.  I have Non-Feedback Carters, Webbers and of course the complete Motorcraft swap.

The stock sensor for the computer won't work with a gauge.

Gronk i picked up the Horse(81 eagle wagon in the for sale section) and it has the non feed back carb on it. thanks though.
ammachine390 i bought the cheapo aftermarket gauge cluster from autozone so its got its own probe that goes into the block or intake.
