Which wires are for the AC, and how do I remove them?

Deleted the AC on my '88, now I can't remember which wires I took off of it. Can I track them down and pull them out completely?

Yes i did this to my 86 just follow them and cut them out. If you need help let me know.

I recently tried the A/C on my newly acquired  '87 Eagle and the compressor is not energized with the HVAC controls on the dash, but will run when"hotwired."  I can't find a fuse in the fuse block and the manual is no help.  Does a fuse exist or do I have to search for a fusible link?  Any help?  :amc:

I managed to miss that, thanks.  The blower motor is fine, so I guess I'll have to remove the HVAC control assembly to test for power and continuity.  Seriously though, The Eagle was bought for winters up in the East mountains outside Albuquerque so A/C is not a real requirement.  Still, I like to have a fully functional car.  :amc:

Hi Mechanic80.  I had the same problem with my AC.  There is only 1 fuse in the whole system and it is in the main fuse block.  If your pump works while hotwired, and the lo pressure switch (up front on the drivers side) is working, then your problem is in the wiring or the micro switch in the heater control unit.  I replaced my heater control unit with one from a non AC car, but I am not sure what the exact year of the donor was.  I suspect that after 82 the control heads were standardized.  Here is a shot of my first control head which was cracked.

This is the replacement unit being installed.

this is a close up of the micro switch in the control head.

The only other part is the thermostatic switch behind the glove box.  If that is toast, you can by pass it and install one in the engine bay with insulated tape to the AC fluid line.

It could be a bad low pressure switch or system too low on gas (R12 or R134A) to engage. If you bypass the switch on the line, the compressor should kick in.

if you dont intend to ever put it back in then open up the engine bay wiring harness and start tracing the wires back from everything that is hooked up to ac components and start cutting them one at a time. is your car nuttered?

The car isn't all together, the AC is out of the car so that's why I need some sort of diagram or list of wires/colors so I know which ones were hooked up! It isn't nuttered yet but I'm working on it.

oh i see. i will post some info that will help. but first are you planning on removing the computer and wiring as well?

I'll remove everything I can from under the hood of this car while still having it run.. I'm used to my '68 Javelin (first car, sold) with a wire loom no bigger around than my index finger. It's a little overwhelming this time!

Already bypassed the computer, converted to HEI, converted to Motorcraft carb, and swapped a 4.0 head on. Not sure what that means as far as extra wiring, but I definitely have two large looms of wire that aren't hooked up to anything. One must be the AC wiring, the other comes out like 8 inches from the firewall and I can't see anything to plug it into. Remnants of the computer?

Have you considered adapting your ac compressor into an air compressor to use for emergencies and when wanting to go off-road? I had read articles of Jeep guys doing that but do not know how they did it. I was considering doing this for mine as I like to have the windows down instead of AC on.

I've considered it, and may be something I look into in the future, but the car hasn't been started in over a year and my goal right now is just to get it to turn over.

On the pass side the loom going into the fire wall is for the computer. unplug the comp. and send that threw the engine bay. if you haven't already its easier to remove all the loom off the wires. and if your doing hei you can remove the ignition module as well. the two relays on the pass side fender torwards the fire wall are come out too. also there is a diode in a black box about 1 1/2 w  x 2 1/2 L x 1/2 thick that goes too. if you can take a pic and post them i can help by marking what needs to come out. let me know if any of this helps or if you need more.

I think that pretty much gave me my direction, the HEI/computer delete was already done when I started, but the PO left the wiring. Maybe I'll post a picture of my starter solenoid and make sure everything essential is hooked up.
