What is the BEST Battery on the market to install?
« on: May 26, 2015, 09:05:35 PM »
Hello,
I need a new battery for my '82 SX/4. What is the best long lasting battery on the market I can put in the car?

Thank You

I like Odyssey batteries; but they are pricy (I have one in my DB7).    However, I have the less-pricy Optima's in most of my classics; and I've had no issues with them over the years.

I've been a big fan of Optima batteries for years- I use them in all my toys and vehicles, and have never had a problem.

Optima has great reserve. My daily driver has it...came with the car when I bought it. I have the red top on that one

One with 12.6 volts after sitting all night. ;)  Brand doesn't matter quite as much as cranking power. If you get one the correct size that is rated for the temps in your area (IE: An Alaskan cold start battery won't do well in AZ heat) you should be fine unless you leave your lights on.
AMC/Jeep gauges are for amusement only. Any correlation between them and reality is purely coincidental!

I bought a Red Top Optima back in 2003, it has been in several cars & 1 suv since then. Finally it ended up in my eagle about 5 years ago. It is still going strong. However I had it and the alternator tested early in the winter. Alt was low charging voltage and the guy that tested said the battery was fine BUT was a little low on charge because of the alternator. It has only gone dead once, dumb mistake I left the drivers door open after working on it all day, didn't realize the dome light was on too. 2 days later clicking is all I got. :banghead:

Using a Deka in my DD wagon and have been very happy.  We had a very cold winter -10 and it didn't mind.  The DieHard in my Jeep did.
