Front Skid plate
« on: January 17, 2014, 12:02:43 AM »
I apologize if this is in the wrong category, as I'm not completely sure what category this would best fit in. I am interested in know what the front skid plate was normally found on? did the majority end up on sport models, did limiteds get this as part of the package, or did it just depend on what the owner or dealer ordered? Thanks for your input

I believe the front skid plate was an option only. I have owned 2 limited wagons one had a skid plate and one did not.

I think it was an option as well. It also seems that more of the ones that had skid plates were from up north (Alaska, Canada, etc.).
Out of my 5 (a sport sx, a DL sx, a base sx, a Limited wagon and a base wagon) not a single 1 had a skid plate. And I know 2 for sure were sold in the south and the sport sx was sold in Michigan.

My parts car has the front skip plate on it. SX/4 Sport so likely an option.

The skid plates are made of some pretty thick  :censored:! If you've got something to cut it, bend it and drill some holes in it I don't think it would be too hard.

I have to use my original one for a template when I raise the front of my cra a bit by dropping the axle down 2 inches.

Yeah, it's a pretty simple design. Could easily be made with a sheet of steel and some way to bend it...with a couple holes drilled. Four torque star bolts and two u-bolts.

Next time I'm up in KC I'm going to help SpreadEagle get his skid plate off the parts car and then we'll be able to make some measurements if anyone would like to make their own. It's really a pretty simple setup. Big piece of sheet metal cut and bent on a few ends.

This is my old one that I stupidly sold! :(

I am thinking diamond plate aluminum would be cool to use for a skid plate
