I didn't think you could either. I thought they stopped making the 232 years earlier.
AMC of Houston:
I just checked my manuals. '79 was the last year for the 232 (VIN Code "E"), and it was available only in the Spirit and Concord models.

Hi. Matt here. That's true. 1979 was the last AMC model year of the code E 232 I-6 motor. 1979 was also the last AMC model year for the code H 304 V-8 motor in passenger cars. I currently own here in Kenosha WI a 1979 AMC Pacer Limited Hatchback with a code C 258 I-6 motor. It is the best AMC that I have ever owned. It is Alpaca Brown with a Tan Interior. -Matt.
