Junkyard Search

PicknPull lists their inventory nationwide...and some locations in Canada.

Unfortunately they don't have many in their yards and most of them are out West. Anyway, thought I'd list this for everyone.

Obviously these links may or may not contain vehicles at any given time as they are subject to change their inventory when cars get...when they...go to AMC Heaven :(

Eagles
http://www.picknpull.com/check_inventory.aspx?Address=65401&Lat=37.923630&Lng=-91.714958&Make=AMC&Model=Eagle&Distance=25000

Spirits
http://www.picknpull.com/check_inventory.aspx?Address=65401&Lat=37.923630&Lng=-91.714958&Make=AMC&Model=Spirit&Distance=25000

Concords
http://www.picknpull.com/check_inventory.aspx?Address=65401&Lat=37.923630&Lng=-91.714958&Make=AMC&Model=Concord&Distance=25000

Oh and I know that Pick-n-Pulls aren't the only yards around so if you know of another JY that lists their inventory and is a larger national type chain let me know and I'll try to add their links. Thanks.

You can access all of the locations of the U Pull N Pay from this link.  They have multiple yards, but you have to check the inventory at each location:

Pull a Part in the southeast, but you have to search each location individually. http://www.pullapart.com/

I know this is an older topic, but I was thinking about something. (actually crosses my mind a lot)
I don't know how many people are like this, but for me anyway, I want to go t junk yards, but I've never done it.  I don't want to sound dumb, but I would have no Idea what to do.  do you just go there, or make an appointment?  what do you bring?  ect. I know you bring tools, but you get the idea.  It would be neat if there was a guide to going to junkyards for beginners, and what to look for specifically for eagles.  And if you are just there to browse, what tools should you bring, if your not going for something specific. (for example if your not going for a steering wheel, why bring a puller?)  what are some general tools you should bring.  and lastly, how do you know when a yard has an eagle.  do you just keep refreshing their inventory site, or is there a notification system (for some places obviously).

I don't know what you guys think, but I think it would be a handy tool if it's not hidden around here somewhere, to have a topic just for tips and whatnot on going to junkyards.  what do you guys think?

It depends on the yard. Some bigger places like Pick-n-Pull you just show up, but a small fee to enter the yard. Pull your parts and pay for them on the way out. Other yards don't let you enter. So you have to know what you want and they'll go pull it for you. Not a fan of these type of yards as come won't even let you out onto the yard. So you can't even inspect the part/vehicle to see if/what you might want from it. Also not all yards have online inventories. Only the larger ones do and as far as I know there aren't notification systems. Though I did join the Pick-n-Pull  ToolKit and when signing up they ask if there are certain cars you are interested in. I think there was an issue with my setup though as I've never received an email from them.

When I go to the yard I just take my Craftsman Tool Kit. I think it's like a 154pc, but I'm not sure. It usually never leaves me stranded, but it's also probably a lot more than I need to take! Gets a little heavy lugging it around the yard. I'd definitely take a Philips/Flat head screw driver. Several sockets and maybe an extension. Set of allen wrenches. Vise Grips & Pliers. And several crescent wrenches. Possibly a hammer...never know when you might just need to give something a little persuasion! :)

I mean like a page of its own, so people like me can just look at the top of the page, (like one of the important, orange-ish colored ones) so they didn't have to search around.  I'm sure there's stuff like this elsewhere on the internet, but it's usually a very basic, undetailed post, and here you could get more friendly information.   especially if you're looking for eagle specific things.  (if you're going for, say one of those skid plates, you could ask there, and if someone pulled one before, they'd have info on what tools, and an easy way to do it. )
and I definitely have the tools down then, I got a nice set for Christmas.

Find some info online and start a new thread! Ball is in your court. You can update your original post and ask for input and then edit your post to keep all the pertinent info at the top.
