Title: Rear wiper
Post by: maddog on September 19, 2021, 07:12:57 PM
The rear hatch that I got from the junkyard yesterday has a wiper motor on it and I have been trying to figure out how to test it to see if it works. Does anyone know how to test one these things because I've tried hooking it up to a battery but I'm not sure if I did it wrong or not because there are three wires. I know the one that is screwed to the hatch itself is the ground but I'm not sure which one is the hot and which one is the negative, their colors are brown and yellow (by the way somebody cut them so not sure how they would hook into the car or how they are routed through the hatch). Any and all help would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you rmick that somewhat clears things up for me, but it unfortunately doesn't show how it's ran through the hatch and into the car. It does however show me how to test the motor. So once again thank you.

Your welcome. On my SX/4 the wire harness comes out at the top of the hatch and then into the headliner area.

The only holes at the top of mine are where the hatch hinges bolt on is that where yours comes out or is there another hole that I'm just not seeing.

The rear wiper wiring actually comes out of the hatch underneath the hinge.  The hinge gasket on the hatch side has a channel molded in for the wiring to go thru.  It comes out from under the hinge, then makes an "S" bend to allow flexing, then goes thru a grommet/hole in the body.   Eagles without a rear wiper sometimes went out with the "non-channeled" left hinge gasket also on the right side; in which case you'll have an issue running the wiring as it should be.   I might have a used correct gasket somewhere, but would probably take me a year to find it for a pic.   Take a look at the wiring pics I just took of mine - hope they're legible.

When you obtained the rear hatch, did you get the switch from the dash? Did you get it installed and working?

Yes I did get the switch but I have yet to install either the hatch or the switch as life has gotten slightly crazy and I have been working on the company trucks for the company I work for. But I will update you guys when I get the chance to put them in. I do have one question though does anyone know how to remove RTV sealant from a window and hatch because it appears they may have tried to reinstall the glass using it ???, if it helps it's the orange one.
