Title: Pics of your motorcycles
Post by: eaglefreek on September 19, 2012, 11:23:21 PM
I prefer to ride off road. I have no desire to ride with cars with people playing with their phones, MP3 players or whatever else distraction they have.
This is my 2011 Husqvarna WR300

Glad to see there are other 2 wheel people out there.  These two pics are from my 9,400 mile trip from Central California to Alaska.  Unlike Eaglefreek, I like to street ride.... although the Alaska trip involved me spending about 3000 miles off paved road.  Here is my ride, my trusted friend my 2007 Suzuki DL650 Vstrom.

I've had my 1990 Suzuki DR350S for about 4 years now.  Bought it for $800 and it looked like you'd expect for an 18 year old dirt bike with 16,000 miles.  Everything scuffed up, discolored and mismatched, but a good running bike despite the looks.  Kick start only, one of the most no-frills street legal bikes possible and still light enough to be good off road.

Over the years I cleaned it up, buffed out the plastics, and generally modernized it to the point there aren't many signs of it being 22 years old now with over 22k.  The top end still has never been apart and it doesn't use oil.  I wasn't a Suzuki guy, I just got it because it was cheap, but this thing won me over.  Tops out at about 95 mph, completely thrashing it I get 45 mpg and if I baby it I can get close to 80 mpg out of it.

For long trips (over an hour straight) that narrow seat starts to get a little uncomfortable.  Apparently the rambler mentality is a transferrable asset.  Instead of spending $400 on a saddle seat, I got this thing called the sweet cheeks.  Slide a 2 liter bottle in each side and bungee cord it down around the frame - and now the seat is 3 times as wide and a heck of a lot more comfortable.  And I keep the 2 liters filled with gas, so if I run out (2 gallon tank) I have a backup plan now.

Cool pics. I started riding when I was 13. First bike was a 1982 Kawasaki KDX80. My brother and I had to share for a while until I got a 79 Yamaha YZ100. I then got an 82 Kx125 and at 15 got an 84 KX250. I got the car bug and got out of bikes but my brother moved to street bikes and started road racing. I tried it a  ouple times on his Hurricane 600 and FZR600. It was a blast but the speeds were just too fast for me. At the end of 1990, my room mate let me take his Honda VFR750 for a Sunday morning ride and I wound up gping down at about 90  mph. I spent a week in the hospital and missed 6 weeks of work. After healing, I got on my brothers bike and raced one more time. I went down in a fast sweeper and was did some cartwheels and landed on my feet. To this day I don't know how I wound up on my feet after the probably 70 mph get off. I didn't break anything but was extremely sore for several days. Thats when I have up bikes. A couple years later I got into PWCs and owned some for 10 years. About 5 years ago I started to get the bike itch but didn't act on it till last year, when I bought a 93 Kawasaki KlX650R. It was fun as heck but too heavy and the fact that it was almost 20 years old with poor maintenance, maxe me look for another bike. I really wanted a 2 stroke and was set on a KTM 300 XC-W, but stumbled on a leftover 11 Husky 300 for over $2,000 cheaper than the KTM. I love the Husky. Here's a pic  of the KLX:

I like old motorcycles even better than old cars. Riding them make me feel ALIVE!
So I have four of them.
Better show one at the time:

Here is a pic of my current bike, 2008 Kawasaki Vulcan 500.  I was only kind of looking for a bike, and somebody offered this one up as a trade for my 64 TBird.  I'm enjoying getting out on this thing on the weekend for longer rides, on the less traveled roads out in the country - no interstates for me yet!  I'm getting a lot more use out of it than the TBird, which I had to store offsite.

This picture was taken before I let it fall over on the trailer and put a dent in the gas tank.

While not my actual bike, this is a 73 Kawasaki 100 like I had (although I may be off on the year).  It was a cool bike to ride, top speed was about 50, maybe 55 going downhill.  Much lighter than my current bike!!!  I bought it for $115, and sold it 3-4 years later for $100.

You guys be careful on those bikes. I lost my older brother to a freak accident back in '99.

Yes. please!
I am (and probably always will be) terrified of anything with less than 4 wheels.
My dad had his near fatal motorcycle accident decades ago. Med flighted and some surgeries later. He was in a coma for months, they didn't expect him to live. Thankfully he did, but he had to learn how to walk, talk ...well everything all over again. Forgot everything in his past along with it.
Then in '03 I lost an uncle on the way to Sturgis. A truck didn't see him and went to pass a vehicle and hit him head on.
Always be careful out there.

I can appreciate the beauty of bikes, just from afar. And you guys have some nice bikes.

I try to be carefull, don't trust any situation or any other driver.
They do not see you or expect a motorcycle on the the road. You're on your own.
I started my career when I was sixteen on a Yamaha FS1 50cc (Fizzy as them all them them in the UK).
They could be tuned to 60mph with factory parts, nice!

Still got a weak spot for Yamaha, this is a 1973 750TX, they actually sold them in reasonable numbers in the US, but It was the worst bike they ever made and every bit as innovative as the AMC Eagle:

Nice, a 2 stroke Harley. I can't tell you how many times I've seen a Harley from the 70's  for sale, advertised as being made by AMC. I guess people can't tell the difference between AMF and AMC.

Thanks - If I remember it is a 1958 ? Raleigh - got it att Rhinebeck show last year , tore it al down, cleaned it up, replaced the cables and got it running, took it back this year to show it off.I actually found a set of NOS engine gaskets for it on that auction site from England.

I just tore down the motor on a 37 Junior Scout today , boreing it out from a 30.50 to a 37 cu.in - doesn't sound like much but will be like night and day as far as performance when done.

2001 kx 100
its a little bike, and Im like 6'2" lol. I traded my 82 Honda magna street bike for it... (I thought I would love and totaly use a street bike, but the magna was more than I expected, but realy, the feel of it, just wasnt naturaly or comfortable to me.. the handle bars curved in, you sit back and like in a chair.. Im used to quads and dirt bikes, sittin on the tank, balls to the wall. leaning forward, arms out to the sides... Its a grat bike, just not for me.. and I had no interest in modding it.)

I have a 92 warrior quad, bought it, rode it for about 10-15 mins.. bolt on the camm sprocket backe off, went wobbly, ripped out a chunk of the camshaft etc. New cam (Stage 1 cam was 10$ cheaper than OEM cam, and no springs or valves etc changing,) fixed her up, got a year outta it.

Now its blowed up again. so last spring I traded the magna for the 100kx, jsut so I had something to ride.. :D

its a great bike, but after 5 rides, im already looking for that next gear, more speed. Its got lotsa jam. all done up as much as you can. so I Plan to trade the kx for a bigger bike ext spring when I get my income tax return. the problem is, I :censored: love the 2 smokers, the way they respond, te way the just "in your face go" .. but i'd also like something to run on the streets. sooo..
do i get a bigger 2 stroke, or do I get an enduro? or maybe, a street legal dirt bike, and swap in a 2 stroke engine... ? O.o

Or, there are ways to beat teh system and put a 2 stroke race dirt bike ont he street... kinda a hassle tho... lol

I think i just need to go test drive some stuff n see...

its just I do alot of trail riding more than anything, but it would be nice to jsut hop on the bike and go to the trails, or use for back n forth to work, or jsut general go whereever I want whenever I want kinda thing...

canada needs to lighten up and allow quads to be street legal like in europe etc... lol

heres a slide show vid I did a year or two ago.. the green KX is now mine, this is before I owned it.

the blue n white warrior (Quad) is mine. you can see its progression, tear down and restoration etc... if nothing else, the 2 songs are great. and theres plenty of pics of trips out on the trails and such... lol

and heres a walk around of the Magna, with one of my kids sittin on it... lol

I see there have not been any new postings but thought I would at least reply to the great pic of members bikes, nice to see two wheels to. Soon as I get a device to take pictures I will try to post some, my daily ride is a 1948 Indian Chief ride to live live to ride.

The first one is my old 77 Yammy 750 triple.  I have had this since early 90's and it is going through its second "updating" as I post this

Here is my main ride, a 2003 Harley Classic that I have owned since new.  It is the 100th anniversary model.  Skeezix and I take it every Christmas for a short ride depending on the weather.
