Stock 258 Headers
« on: June 24, 2014, 09:43:14 PM »
I have a totally stock 258. I want to put some headers on it and have a true dual exhaust made. I'm not really concerned about a huge performance increase, I just think it would look cool. I am considering the Clifford headers. Do they fit? Are there any other good header options?

There was only one header made that fits an Eagle and they were made by Clifford, but no longer offer them due to no demand.

I was thinking that the typical off the shelf headers wouldn't fit due to how close the exhaust runs to the front drive shaft. I hadn't looked close enough to confirm that though. Looks like the only option would be to custom build one.

I custom built true dual exaust by using a 94 xj manifolt splitting it at the collector and routing 2 inch pipe to both sides of the car. Tailpipes end before the rear tires.

Alright, so I had to abandon the true dual exhaust and headers idea. Now I am thinking that from nothing other than looking at pictures on the internet, the single outlet 258 long tube header might fit. Can anyone confirm or deny this?

So apparently this is the fabled Clifford  long tube header I have been reading about. I found this in a thread from 2011. I have read that the headers Clifford currently sells do not fit on an eagle. I have also read that they no longer make the long header due to a lack of demand. So, the million dollar question is, will I be able to find a new or used Clifford long tube header?

Just by looking at them it appears likely to me the outlet pipe will hit the front axle housing.  I'm pretty sure the eagle specific header outlet pipe angles back quite a bit farther than that to clear the front axle housing.

Well, if anyone cares to know, Clifford is making the single outlet header again. I spoke to a dude named Larry, he said that he got behind on the Eagle headers, but they will be ready for sale in about a week. So for anyone who is looking for an off the shelf header, there is your solution. The price I was told is $359.99.

Make sure they don't think you mean the Eagle Talon!
AMC/Jeep gauges are for amusement only. Any correlation between them and reality is purely coincidental!
