Title: LED Headlights Win!
Post by: Beaverseagle on October 03, 2016, 01:41:00 PM
Hi Everyone,

Just thought I'd share my recent purchase.  I recently updated all my turn signals, backup, tail, and brake lights to LED. I was wondering what could be done about my headlights.

I found these on Amazon

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01B4FIQ6E/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o06_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 (https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01B4FIQ6E/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o06_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1)

They work great!. They bolt right in to my 82 SX4. You will probably need to use longer screws in the square, metal headlight retainers. You also have to reverse the to side light wires on the low beam plug.  On the high beams just spin the light plug 180 degrees.   Also just bend the center male  plug pin back on the high beams as well.

Other than that it was pretty simple.  I've only had them for about 2 weeks now but they were great so far.

And the light is huge improvement.  It's a white light rather than a blue one you see on the HID lights.

Thanks for the link and I'm glad they work for you.  Any chance you could post a night time picture with the lights on?  Thanks.

Hid also should need some sort of igniter/whateveritscalledexactly put in to the wiring. I have done the hid to my older 2 fords. Never ventured into the led yet. I will say the tortoise i did it to can illuminate a sign just over 3 long blocks away. They are not blinding however. I checked. Whatever max legal is, is what i put in that car. BTW  hid is not always blue.. there is about 4  other colors. I think 10k blue is the brightest legal i think.

I would love to here more on the power of your led's.

These things are pretty bright.  I have no idea while the high beams pic is bigger than the rest.

Thanks for posting the pictures.  Unfortunately they aren't showing up for me.  I'll have to look at them later on another machine or something.

Strange...I can see them in the post. Let me know if you are still having issues

Cannot see them either. I took a look at your post and have no cluewhy. You can upload directly to this site rather than using a third party to host and than link it here. Just hit attachments and other options below the post box.

They wanted me to shrink the pics which made them worthless.

Beaver if you are hosting on Google Drive you have to make the photo public. Otherwise no one can see the linked photo.

Do they blind on coming traffic or is the light path still pretty norm and stays at the right height?

I'll mess with the settings. I'm hosting them on google phtotos.

They don't seem to be blinding anyone.  I've had to point them down at a steeper angle compared to stock.

How did all the other LED lights work out? Are they brighter than stock bulbs ? Did you replace dash lights also?

They work great. I just got my rear and front side running lights working. They haven't been working since i got the bird running. I didnt go with the brightest options to keep the costs down.  My reverse lights are really bright.  Over all though i think they are brighter but look normal.  The only interior light i got was the dome light.  I went with an off white but i should have gotten a brighter white light.

If anyone wants to get LEDs go to superbrightleds.com. I've used them for a few years great service.  All you have to do is put your year make and model in and they tell you what to order. Everything matched up.

So it looks like Google photos will allow you to share an album via a specific link that anyone can see.  If you want to share a specific photo with someone via an image link, I have share with an individual person and not everyone i give the link to.

I prefer to use google photos because it's just easier for me. My photos are automatically uploaded to the google cloud environment.

Can everyone see the photos in the photo album I sent?

Thanks for the link I've been thinking of other headlight options and these look like they are just what the doctor ordered.

The Google Linked photos still aren't showing. Someone else on here has been using Google Photos as well and he's had some issues and had to fix some things, but seems to have figured it all out.

His project thread is here if you want to talk to him about how to get the photos to work.

I am confused by what this means: You also have to reverse the to side light wires on the low beam plug.  I turned the plug 180 and they come on.  When I hit the brights the other lights come on but the lows turn off.  Obviously, I'm missing something...

Can you be a little more clear? Did you purchase some LED headlights also and are having trouble getting them to work properly? If so, the new headlights are probably wired like H4's and will require you to move your terminals in the connector.

Thanks.  That makes sense.  Did you guys rewire the car plug or the lights?

Car plugs I'm assuming.  I haven't done much with electrical, but I'm motivated.

I finally got the headlights figured out...  Maybe.  Before I had a whole headlight on for brights and low beams.  Now I have half of a headlight on for lows and a whole headlight on each side on for high beams.  Is this correct?  I would assume I would have all 4 on for highs and 2 on for lows.

That is correct.  2 for low and 4 for highs. I didn't move my original connectors  because I installed relays and new connectors with larger gauge wiring. There is most likely a little prong that sticks out that holds the terminal in the connector that you can bend with a very small eyeglass flat head screw driver and then pull the terminals out of the connector, bend the prong back and reinstall them in their new position.

Yep that's how mine work. I read a thread some place online  that talks about how to get all 4 to come full on. I might be in the reviews on Amazon. I think they are bright enough when on high beam.

Also still have had no issues with mine. Seem like a good product.

I started reading that thread and thought man that sounds familiar. Then I realized it was me who wrote it. :)  Yes, relays help give full voltage to the headlights. There is voltage drop through the factory small gauge wiring and switch.

Lol.  Thank you then.  I just got the  relays and will install them tomorrow.  I sure hope this fixes it...  I also will be hooking up the second side of my exhaust tomorrow.  True dual exhaust, so a long day.
