Title: Flexplate chewed?
Post by: Mr_Roboto on July 24, 2022, 10:10:06 PM
Looking for opinions, workarounds etc. on this. I think it's done and I'm dropping the pan but want to be sure there's not another alternative/I'm not overthinking it.

Yeah it's getting pretty worn. How has your starter engagement been lately? What does the bendix gear look like?

Aside from a small chip the bendix actually looks fine. When I try to start it you can tell it hits a compression stroke then just stops and starts spinning. I started pulling the trans tonight. I'm going to do a couple things while I'm in there, so hopefully it won't be too dramatic.

It's not like 258 flexplates are hard to get or expensive, so if you are dropping the gearbox there's no point leaving that in.

Honestly if I were you I would just get a new flexplate.

I'm going to do a bunch of "while I'm at it" stuff but the primary reason for dropping the box is to get that out and swapped. I'm sticking a Renix flexplate in and adding a hole for a reluctor as well and tossing in a 4.0 mini starter which is good because I need the clearance for an exhaust project. I may do a stall converter if I can turn it around quick enough.
