'81 SX/4 Sport with 54k miles
« on: September 29, 2012, 06:03:50 PM »
Hey everyone. Just finished some work so I thought I'd share it. This is my '81 Sx/4 Sport, only 54k miles, everything but the analog clock works! Just recently did new coils from Espo, rear leaf springs, (either 1/2" or 1" lift, I forget) shackles, bushings and U-bolts from Stengel Bros, shocks and new sneakers! Car runs amazing, can't go anywhere without people asking about it. I have the motorcraft carb and alum valve cover in boxes going on next, and it's getting squirted with a new coat of Oriental Red this winter. Thanks for looking!

This is the car right before doing the suspension. Everything was old and tired but the car is solid as a rock, no rust anywhere, so every nut and bolt came out with no problems!

This is after all new suspension

Finally, the new sneakers. Went from the stock 195/75R15 to General Grabber 205/75R15. Didn't want to go too big as I don't do any hardcore off-roading and wanted to retain most of the stock appearance.

Very nice!
Been eyeballing those Grabbers myself and now it's confirmed that they do look good on an SX!

Thanks everyone! Yeah I was undecided about what tires to go with, last month General had a 50$ rebate when you buy four that I missed out on, but I found these from tirebuyer.com for $101 each with free shipping, the best deal I could find online. They have real nice tread and don't really make any noise at all. Nice smooth ride compared to the old tires too.

Hey your SX/4 looks awesome! Question: I am in as much disbelief as the poster above me for the difference in ride height.  Did you replace everything to stock specs?? If so, I definitely need to redo mine!

It has been the experience of most on here that the ESPO supposedly replacement coil springs, actually lift the front end higher than factory height. Swampduck also stated the new rear leaf springs were ordered for more height.

Eaglefreek,  I see that now in his post.  I guess I missed it because I was looking for where he put spacers up front!  I think this is going on my list of things to do  ::)

It happened to me.  I didn't especially want the front end lift, but I got it.  I replaced several half shafts until I began buying new ones rather than reman.
