National Name your car day
« on: October 02, 2012, 01:13:11 PM »
Today is National Name Your Car Day! Every October 2, people are supposed to give their car a name that properly reflects its character.

Now some people have already named their car, whether they admit it or not.
I know we have quite a few people that name their cars (Eagles or not).

Have you named your car? What is it and why did you choose it?

Well I no longer have an Eagle, but I have named my Festiva. It's pretty obvious why I named it as such.

lol, mine have names I guess, lol, more like "tags" or "handles" in a way though.

Jeep: Freekee.
Why: It was a free cherokee, plus it's a bit of a freak so it's fitting, lol.

84 Eagle: Red Headed Step Child
Why: Well, it's red, and the miss was not too fond of it from day one, gets her jabbs in about it any time possible, lol. So it made sense to me to call it that.

Malibu: Mirthmobile
Why: This name was givin to the car by my high school friends back when I first got it. It was the butt of many jokes, everything from it's Grandpa looks, to it's gutless nature.  We were all watching Waynes Worlds, when Wayne says in the movie, "To the mirthmobile!" my friends all bust out laughing and tagged my car with that handle. To this day (even though I've tried renaming in the past) my friends still ask, how's the mirth running?  :rotfl: Grand, I have a chevy named after an AMC Pacer, hahaha, go figure....

That fits perfectly Rafe lol. I have a fondness for Metro's myself.
Mirthmobile ... :rotfl: too funny! A series of movies and skits I would like to forget now-a-days.
I feel your pain on the high school buds that name your car for you.
Here was mine: (74 Ford Maverick)

Very true Rafe. Though I loved my little 3cyl Metro, they did start putting 4's in them around 96. A lot of people frown upon the Micro Machines unfortunately.

It's surprisingly peppy in the lower gears since it's so light weight. It's a great second car for an Eagle fan. I know Eaglefreek has one too.

Back on topic I my old Mazdaspeed3 was named Quazi because my ex-girlfriend called it a hunchback when I told her it was a little hatchback wagon. So she started calling it Quasimodo...that was too long though and I like Zzzzs so I called it Quazi.

Not much of a micro car person, but their fuel economy is looking better and better, as I pull up to the pump in a High Test thirsty V8 car  :eyepopping:    :faint:

Well I do realize that I have one newish addition with no name and now I feel obligated to name it.
I am like you though, I don't always give them names, instead some just have "tags" or "handles". Since it is getting harder and harder to say something along the lines of "The vice grip is in the Eagle." ...with 5 of em now, that can't happen. Though I am not very good at naming cars.
I have:
'82 parts wagon - the Beast (named this because it is pretty ugly and so many things wrong with it)
'87 Limited wagon - the Tank (1st one I really got to drive and it felt like driving a tank)
'82 SX/4 - the Squirrel (the color just screams "Squirrel" to me for some reason)
'81 SX/4 - the Black Mamba (she's black and with so much rust, she's deadly literally)
And the newest one, the '81 SX/4 has been dubbed...
the Armadillo

Now have "Bleep" because it's a BLack jEEP. Had "Old Rusty" for a few years, my '91 F150. So named because he was - Old & Rusty. Also has an '01 policeman car I sold my niece, should've kept it instead of Old Rusty. Called it "The Beast". Niece's daughter (5 or 6 years old at the time) re-named it "Speedy Beast" after my niece bought it.
1995 Jeep Cherokee "Bleep"

A name never popped out at me for any of the cars I've owned but I do call my husbands camoflage 3/4 ton 85 Dodge flatbed truck Shirley - it just seemed to fit.  My husband hates when I call his truck that though, he calls it Bader.  The employees at one of his jobs used to call it the chick magnet and even put a "chick magnet" sticker on it.  I thought that was great too.

I like to to tell people my Eagle is like a Ferrari. It's quirky, tempermental, border-line exotic, and something you don't see everyday.  See? Makes perfect sense....

Too many cars and almost all are named. Wife has a name for her '12 Kia Soul! Red Rollerskate.
My Eagle wagon is Brown Betty.
My '84 J10 "Monster truck" is Black Jack (it's been a gamble to make it as custom as I have in the past 12 years and it may finally be finished and running on LPG before December!)
The '68 IH Travelall is pumpkin bus (orange)
My '87 Comanche is Sarge (due to the stars and stripes headliner when I got it and mil spec interior lights from a Humvee or tank)

The Honcho hasn't quite been named yet.

My Spirit was Spirit of the Eagle (glad to see that finished. One less project to deal with)
My '89 Comanche is sort of named stretch because the plan is to put a 290/AX-15 or AW4 in with doors from a 2 dr XJ and extend the cabe to put a shortbed on it.
AMC/Jeep gauges are for amusement only. Any correlation between them and reality is purely coincidental!
