1984 AMC Eagle
« on: November 03, 2012, 07:17:00 PM »
After the Eagle I bought in August turned out to have a bad frame I decided to buy another one. Got a decent condition 84 wagon that wasn't running from a member on here. Just thought I'd share a few pics of the progress.

how it started

started tearing it down to see how things were

every time I took one thing off I seemed to find a reason to go deeper

well can't really go deeper now

not much left to take off except the front doors, the rest will wait till another time.
going to give the frame, undercarriage, and inner fenders a nice coat of por 15 and paint the engine bay
will eventually repaint the whole thing

applying the por 15 this weekend on the suspension components, hopefully have the rest of the front end coated next weekend.

then it's time to start reinstalling stuff.

also got some new CV shafts, new brake and fuel tubing, and new springs.

drive train is coming out of the original 88 I bought which had the tow package, so when done it'll no longer have the vacuum disco front axle, 3.08s, engine w/ aluminum valve cover, and also taking the front fenders and hood from the 88 since the 84 had some small damage.

Some more progress pics.

POR15 is done on the front end. Gonna build a temporary paint booth when I get back from Thanksgiving and start to sand to repaint the engine bay.

I thought I recognized that eagle. Glad to hear that it found a good home.

Some more update pics.

Finished the por 15, mounting things back up and starting to paint the engine bay this week.

busted the shackles getting them out, ordered some new ones from MORE.

also busted one of the hanger bolts for the gas tank, made some new ones out of 3/8"x10" carriage bolts.

Shackles didn't work out, didn't realize how little room there was. Tried to track down OEM replacements but gave up after I called the last company to make them (Triangle) and they didn't even recognize their own part # on them.

Custom made some out of 3/16" flat steel and some grade 5 carriage bolts.

Rear axle is back in and I started some of the brake plumbing, will get pics tomorrow.

Priming in the engine bay tomorrow.

yeah this is ghetto

did not go smoothly. big mess up thanks to the por 15 top coat I used. luckily it's not in an area that will be visible after the fenders are back on.
