Title: What’s Your Eagle’s Purpose?
Post by: 89 MJ on April 18, 2024, 09:31:49 PM
What does everyone’s Eagle do? Is it your off road toy? A daily driver? Your bad weather beater? A show car? Just something to tinker with?

My car has served all of those purposes. When I’m not at school, it shares daily driver duties with my Comanche. Usually it’s driven on rainy days because the Comanche is restored and my Eagle is far from nice, but it also gets driven plenty when it’s nice. Every now and again, it sees dirt, but it doesn’t get wheeled like a Jeep.

It's my daily.
I don't have space for another car so this wagon checks every box for where it goes and has to remain reliable. This has proven to be extremely expensive because it can rarely be taken off the road for extended periods of time for maintenance because it's needed again in fairly short order and roadside breakdowns. At the same time it has to look good, so there's lots of cleaning, polishing, waxing and as much effort as I can to keep both the interior and exterior presentable both on the road and when parked at the grocery store.
At this point the biggest thing I need to keep on top of is rust and failing collision/paint repairs from decades ago. You know, the two things that when you really have to pull the trigger are both very time consuming and expensive.

Was my daily driver after purchasing in 2012 for ten years. Then finally decided to restore the car with new rockers and interior and paint and use it for car shows but not afraid to take it out when snow first falls before roads get all slushy.

They're my daily drivers, but I don't drive much anymore. They have also been in shows & won awards. I actually beat myself outta first place in the 1980s. The sedan took first & the wagon got second. The other trophy was for 2nd place, I was confused & put it on the wrong Eagle!

My Eagles are for daily driving and for tinkering.  And also to be mobile museums to remind people of these cars.  I almost always get comments each time I take them out from people who remember them, haven't seen one in a long time, and who have fond memories of them.  Fly, Eagle, fly!

I'm glad to see that these cars are still being driven!

With recent events, got rear ended in my daily driver and it was totaled. Now trying to nurse a concussion and whiplash, got diagnosis last Monday after suffering a persistent headache for over a week my wife made an appointment. Almost 4 weeks in, I have decided I will NOT replace my rave4. I do not want another payment. Interest rates are way too high. I bought new tires for the Eagle, finally. The ones that were on it, I bought back in 2009 right after I got married. I was also given a 1999 Ford E250 van. So with the van and fresh safe tires on the Eagle I will be using then as daily drivers. Guess I will hit 100,000 miles in the Eagle this year after all..

Glad you didn’t get banged up any more than you did

At this point, I am keeping my fingers crossed for a quick recovery, whiplash and a concussion sucks.
Looking forward to getting more things off my to do list with the Eagle.

My Eagle is currently being fixed up. Not restored, but it's only put on 900 miles since 2003, unless the odometer has been tampered with, which I doubt. I would like to put it into daily-driver service, but the fuel economy deters me from retiring my Corolla. So I don't know.
