Title: What to do? 2014 Meet planning.
Post by: drock87 on December 04, 2013, 11:00:39 AM
Hey everyone. With all of the chaos with the forums over the last year, it has been a long time since there has been a "National" meet. I, for instance, have never been able to attend one. The first wasn't long after I got mine, and it certainly was not up to the task then. Lets use this board for ideas for locations, times, etc. Maybe once we get a few ideas, we can put up a poll to start planning.

Regional meets seem to work best.   In the past we have also had European members visit.  It would be great if we could see some VAM folks and their cars as well.

I do believe this year is the bi-annual AMC Eagle meet in CO at the Eagle Motel. It's probably going to be the largest gathering of Eagles this year and should certainly get the 2014 International Eagle Meet stamp...even if we don't have anyone there but USA guys. We like to leave it open for anyone outside the states to come. Besides that hopefully the new Map being created can help some others find more regional guys to have little mini meets. If I remember correctly the Eagle Motel meet is usually one of the weekends in October. There are also Captspillane's 2 annual meets he has started doing every years.

That's what I had thought, and I would REALLY like to make that trip this year. We probably need someone to plan though. I could definitely help, although it would most likely be useful for someone more out west to take up a bulk of it. I have already begun planning for this personally as I would like to swing down through AZ to visit family then head back to Ohio. I want to make a two week road trip out of it.

Closer to the event Terry from the Rambler ranch usually signs on and gives us a bit more info on everything.

Is he the one who organizes it? Also, is he aware of the "updated" forums?

I'll be glad to help coordinate things with Terry as the time gets closer.  Like Rafe said, its usually in early October, and includes a quick tour of the Ranch on Saturday morning, a drive to the Eagle Motel with a couple stops along the way, and dinner at the german restaurant.  No organized activities on Sunday, although most people grabbed breakfast at the same restaurant just down the street from the motel.  A few Nest members gathered at the Ranch on Friday and spent a good 8 hours touring and helping Terry get some of his Eagles ready.  Its really a fun time!

Thank you Dave for helping on this.  The last Eagle Motel trip was a blast!  This is one meet you don't want to miss.

I've been wanting to make the Rambler Ranch tour and the Eagle Motel run since I first heard about it. 2014 will be the year that I will finally be able to make it.

I'm looking forward to meeting some members in person. I've been given some very helpful advice from them in the past and it has been very much appreciated.

I would be willing to help out with an Eagle Meet EAST, I'm in Tennessee as is EagleFreek, its kinda in the middle of the East and pretty easy to get to from about anywhere. I have lots of room for a meet along with a grill for cooking!! Nice campground at the state park here too

If there is enough interest I would volunteer to host,

If you ever have a Regional meet I could probably make a TN meet no problem.

I would be interested for sure. TN is not too far from me...about 8-10 hours I think. I would love to do that.

I am very excited for the Rambler Ranch/Eagle Motel meet too. I have been looking forward to being able to do this since I bought my car two years ago, and it should be ready by then to go. I am actually planning on making it a two week vacation. I want to camp my way out there, stay for the few days there, then head down to Show Low, AZ where my uncle lives, stay with him a few days, then camp my way back to Ohio. I've never done a "real" road trip before. October is a great time because its not too hot or cold (no AC). Thank you to all of those who are helping to organize with Terry. Let me know what help I can be.

Every year around June 21st, the summer solstice, I will hold a meet here in Perkiomenville, PA 18074. It is within an hour drive of Philadelphia and within 2.5 hours from New York city.

This year the 21st is a Saturday, so the weekend is already set for the 21st and 22nd of June, 2014.

In many future years to come the Perkiomen Summer Solstice Meet will always be within two weeks of the 21st.

The goal of these meets is to create as many videos and tutorials as possible over the years. Last year for instance we made a video describing how to easily figure out the gear ratio of a given axle. This next year I would like to have several transissions in various states of rebuild and walk through the process together with several of you. For some it would be cool hands on experience and for others it will be a chance to capture your former knowledge and experience, making it readily available to our community. The cheaper and easier it is to access knowledge the more people will have the patience and motivation to save more cars.

I hope to set a trend of actively trying to accomplish something together as a community every time several of us get together. As fun and enjoyable as it is to meet others with like passion, it is difficult to make it happen. Having an accomplishment and a goal adds much more depth and urgency to help make these events a consistant and rewarding reality.

Derek, you are welcome to stay at my places when you are passing through Missouri.

Good idea capt. Have you posted this video you did at the last meet in a thread on here?

Nope, I figured I'll do that once I'm actually advertising for the 2014 meet. I registered a website that will eventually collect them all into one place for easy browsing too. From there I'm sure they'll make it to the appropriate forum threads on their own.

You see alot of the same questions asked as time goes on, so forums are really good for finding information but not great at keeping it easy to find.

Great idea Capt.  An easy place to find them all would really be helpful.  We will make sure to prominently link to the site from the Den.

Where is this Eagle Hotel in CO.  I live in Wyoming and will be back from my deployment in the Spring.  I have had my SX-4 for about 6 years and always wanted to go to a meet.

My wife has a sister in Colorado Springs so I could disguise the trip as a visit to see her sister.   Then, Whoa check this out, a meet, can you believe it?

The Eagle Motel is in Manitou Springs, just outside of CO Springs.  The weekend always starts with a tour of the Rambler Ranch, in Elizabeth CO.

Hope you can make it!

We need to start a separate thread for each meet!  I hope that we can space them out a bit for those of us that might want to go to more than one!  I would gladly do both CO and TN... though I am taking my 14 yr old to see my Sis in Europe this Summer so I will need to plan ahead!  Hope we get some dates soon!

Have a great week and start to your 2014 everyone!

It's unlikely that I'll make any meet before 2016, I plan to be packing up and leaving Alaska by then.

In the meantime, if any of you ever decide to head this way, look me up!

ditto.  little bit of a drive, but if I ever do get my eagle anytime soon, and it's in good running condition, I'd try my best.  I'd love something like this, and that's about as close as one will probably get, other than some sort of AMC meet in Kenosha?

Hope to add some extra time to my Eagle meet trip and do this if its not to late in the year. Georgia Pass would be cool to get a group to go. http://www.everytrail.com/guide/georgia-pass-colorado-off-road-trail-maps

There are several places in Missouri that we could have a regional. Lake of the Ozarks  or better yet we could try Branson Missouri or Hot Springs Arkansas.
j2sax when are the shows around Springfield? I'd Luke to maybe get a few Eagles to meet up then. I'd guess Memorial weekend?

that's someplace I could eventually see my self getting to.  I guarantee someday I'll make it to rambler ranch, but not anytime soon.

Heya, any meets ever happen on the West side of U.s? Cali based here, though I do fly to Montana too. Is my best bet Colorado?

The Eagle Motel is probably gonna be the best bet. Besides that meet every two years Capt. puts on a little get together twice a year over on the East Coast. There really are no regular regional meets. If you aren't on the SOAR Database go fill out the form and check out who lives near you. Your best bet is finding some region guys and trying to plan something.

Are there any meets in or close to Montana? I live in stevensville with my sx4 and and new addition station wagon and never really traveled outside if Montana but I've seen probably 4 other eagles just in a 30 mile radius and no one ever seems to be connected to any of these sites

Your best bet would be to try and get in contact with the local Eagle owners and start with a mini-meet at a Sonic drive in or something.  There are a few Eagle owners in Wyoming that might be relatively close also.

Does anyone know of any Meets out here near Pittsburgh, PA this summer? I'm kind of behind the 8-ball getting to any Regeonals due to lack of funds. I'd like to get out there to Philly but all the same chaos. I'd like to find some others in my area with Eagles and meet some good people and to share with, but don't know how to go about it.
The last one I was going to was up at L. Arthur near Prospect at the PartsArama but it was on Father's Day that year and I always go to the North Huntingdon Elks Car Cruise. Just can't be in 2-3 places at once. Being the PartsArama is 2 hours away and me being lite on parts to sell, it's like a wasted trip to find you're the only one there. I know there's a lot of Eagles around, just don't know where?

Hi All ~
I'm wondering if there will really be a Colorado meet this year.  I see plenty of older comments here but they range all over the country, and I don't see dates, registration forms, costs, etc. for Colorado.  I'm seriously thinking of coming if there is a meet - have always wanted to see Terry's collection and definitely want to see lots and lots of Eagles!  Can someone steer me to the details?  Thanks!

Yes it can be confusing with all the posts. There is another thread about the meet. The only cost to you is your travel costs, hotel and food. There is no registration or sign up costs. Here is a quote from Terry with the dates and his email address. It would be good to contact him for the details and let him know that you are coming.

I am very excited about the Eagle Motel trip this year, I am working on 3 more Eagle's than I took 2 years ago so if I have enough drivers I will take 22 cars. Roger ( Rambler Ranch mechanic ) is planning on bringing 8 cars.  I also have a new place to tour that I'm sure everyone will enjoy. So far we have people coming from 6 states! I hope we get a few more, you have plenty of time to get your cars ready for the trip to Colorado. I have reserved the motel for October 11th and 12th. We will leave Rambler Ranch on Saturday morning about 10AM. Lets make this the largest gathering of Eagle's ever! We had 35 cars 2 years ago, I would love to see close to 50 this year. Feel free to email me at [email protected] if you have any questions.
