Title: Bet gone awry
Post by: Hawk258 on October 14, 2011, 02:03:52 PM
I was discussing my "Blackhawk" project with an association and how Dodge shared much of it's engineering when it bought AMC and the subject of Jeeps "Ownership" came into question. At which point the individual bet me that Jeep was it's OWN company but subcontracted assembly. I went to 3 sources as he would not accept the info posted here or on wiki, I even went to allpar to show him this and what was listed was "American motor company bought Jeep operations" and was very ambiguous at best. My interpretation was pretty straight forward as I said "They bought the whole thing" where his was a bit less encompassing but not wrong either "They bought the plants but not the rights" So... Is there a source that is generally "Respected" that says "JEEP was OWNED and OPERATED BY American Motor company?" If so, I may decide to go claim the hundred bucks he originally bet.

From what you mention I think you will never show your associate the true, he sounds like the conspiracy theories type.

Thanks for the input, As for the AMC logo, he could have easily sited the Ford "Built" 9 slot jeep. but I honestly didn't get that far, but I may get a second chance later. Much appreciated. I egg'd you all
