Cleaning SX/4 wheels
« on: April 13, 2012, 09:59:31 AM »
Has anyone had their SX/4 original wheels sand blasted clean? If so how do they look with the plastic center cone? Are the wheels brighter than the center plastic cone?

Thanks

Bill,

You're thinking hubcaps then??? I was thinking aluminum.  I have a set of hubcaps from a 85 limited by the way if anyone wants then before they hit the trash as I'll never use them & need to fight my pack rat tendencies to keep everything...

I don't plug many products but I have to say that the McGuire's polish products are pretty good and reasonably priced. They have a polishing compound for plastic hubs and aluminum that realy brings out a shine. I also use one of those red polishing cones that you put in your electric drill.

Once you have it polished really nice, keep them clean with a solution of vinegar and water. The solution also works well on windows and if you spray it on your car at night and get frost, the windows wont frost up.

I am just throwing a guess because it is mentioned "center plastic cone"  as far as i know there is no way to shine them up but i have seen a few sets that are painted to match the body color and they look pretty good
